For All Mankind | Creating the Costumes of 2003 | Apple TV+

  • last year
The dress code on Mars carries more weight than you might think. For All Mankind Season 4 is now streaming on Apple TV+ https://apple.co/__ForAllMankind

Rocketing into the new millennium in the eight years since Season 3, Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners. Now 2003, the focus of the space program has turned to the capture and mining of extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars. But simmering tensions between the residents of the now-sprawling international base threaten to undo everything they are working towards.

The ensemble cast returning for Season 4 includes Joel Kinnaman, Wrenn Schmidt, Krys Marshall, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu and Coral Peña along with new series regulars Toby Kebbell, Tyner Rushing, Daniel Stern and Svetlana Efremova.

“For All Mankind” is created by Emmy Award winner Moore, and Emmy nominees Nedivi and Wolpert. Nedivi and Wolpert serve as showrunners and executive produce alongside Moore and Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions, as well as David Weddle, Bradley Thompson and Seth Edelstein. “For All Mankind” is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

00:02 Esther, our costume designer, has just
00:16 been a great addition to the show.
00:17 She excelled at this spacesuit.
00:19 I pretty much looked at every spacesuit there ever was,
00:23 both in reality and on screen.
00:26 We were creating a suit that was feasible, that looked realistic.
00:31 You overlay all the needs of TV, the specifics that we need.
00:37 It becomes a very complicated equation.
00:41 You up for an adventure?
00:42 Only one way to find out.
00:43 One of the biggest requests from Matt and Ben
00:50 was the actual weight of the suit.
00:52 In season three, the suits weighed 70 pounds.
00:55 It's a lot.
00:56 Our suits are working suits.
00:59 They have to work, and they have to look
01:01 like they have some function.
01:03 I was really happy with the helmet.
01:06 It looks great from all angles.
01:08 And that's a hard one to do.
01:11 Can I get one of those suits?
01:13 They're all booked.
01:14 This is the only one I got available.
01:18 From the planet Earth wear to our Mars habitat,
01:22 we were pushing over 500 fittings on cast.
01:26 So that's big.
01:28 It's a lot of clothes.
01:30 We need to get this thing done, this asteroid.
01:33 It could change everything for people back home.
01:37 The challenge for me was to set up the dynamics that were
01:41 within the written script.
01:43 We're seeing certainly a lot more color
01:45 in our professional crew.
01:48 And then when we look at the Helios crew,
01:51 there's much more utilitarian look about them.
01:54 And I think it served the script very well.
01:56 We spent the time and the energy investigating
01:59 all of our choices and making sure
02:01 they were the right choices.
02:03 I need skilled people on my side,
02:06 and you are very skilled indeed.
