00:00 It's been eight months since Sudan became engulfed by war.
00:04 Fighting that the UN says has displaced more people than any other global crisis, with
00:08 some seven million having fled their homes.
00:12 Many of them have found refuge in neighbouring Chad.
00:15 For people like Awatef, who is from Sudan's Maslit tribe, even the journey here was perilous.
00:21 On her way to Chad, her son was killed by the rapid support forces and their allied
00:26 militias.
00:27 "They dragged the boy away and told him to crawl.
00:33 He was crawling while they were beating him with a wooden rod until he bled out.
00:39 The boy died and we left him."
00:45 Thousands of Maslit civilians from West Darfur have been killed since fighting broke out
00:49 between the Sudanese army and the rival paramilitary rapid support forces.
00:55 The UN and the West accuse the RSF of ethnic cleansing and of the systematic displacement
01:00 of the Maslit from their land.
01:02 Another mass exodus is also underway in Al Jazeera state.
01:06 It was Sudan's breadbasket until the RSF captured the state's capital, Badmadani, earlier this
01:12 month - forcing 300,000 people to flee, half of them are children.
01:18 On X, the UN is sounding the alarm.
01:21 No child should have to experience the horrors of war.
01:25 Children and the civilian infrastructure they rely on must be protected.
01:30 With Al Jazeera state now thrown into chaos, safe zones for people displaced by the conflict
01:35 are shrinking.
01:37 The Armed Conflict Locations and Event Data Project estimates that over 12,000 people
01:42 have been killed so far.
01:44 But that could be well below the true death toll.
