Thurlow Weed Lieurance lived from 1878 to 1963.

This American composer promoted the Indianist movement in American music. He began his life in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

In October 1911 he recorded Sitting Eagle, also known as Mortimer Dreamer, who was then living on the Crow Reservation in Montana.

"By The Waters Of Minnetonka (An Indian Love Song)" was published in 1913. The C instrument obbligato, an echo of the vocal melody, represents the wind.

"Princess Watahwaso" was the stage name of Lucy Nicolar (1882-1969).

She was part of the Penobscot Nation.

Lucy Nicolar was born on June 22, 1882, on Indian Island, Maine.

She was the daughter of Joseph Nicolar and Elizabeth Joseph.

Every summer, her family traveled to the resort town of Kennebunkport to sell baskets.

Lucy and her sister performed in Indian dress for tourists.
