00:00 Outlook Business Tech Talk with Manish Sinha. A show that talks about technology, the universe,
00:08 artificial intelligence, virtual reality, quantum mechanics and all kinds of innovation.
00:17 Let's dive into the world of science. Getting lost in reality, extended reality with 240 degree
00:36 field of view. That is a hair raising experience. Hair raising, got it? You did. Now let me take
00:43 you to a world which will give you that figurative hair raising experience and also some goosebumps.
00:49 I'm talking about extended reality with generative AI coming close to beautifully panoramic headgear
00:57 displays that make you feel like you're actually in the scene. The time has come for us to feel
01:04 things much better than we have ever done before. Just one month ago at the Augmented World Expo
01:11 AWE 2023, we saw how generative AI can be combined with augmented reality to create real world NPCs,
01:20 non-player characters. Yes gamers, we have NPCs for real. Hell yeah. The interesting thing is that
01:29 robots and extended reality will give the user interface for generative AI. So you'd actually see
01:37 large language models like chat GPT speak with a real body. Just like how the CEO of AWE fooled us
01:46 with his AR doppelganger at the AWE 2023. We almost got fooled. So there's a lot of new headgear,
01:56 you know, VR headgear above the class of Oculus Rift, Apple EyeSight and even MagiCleap. In the
02:03 show more than 100 were on display and so many of them were there for the first time. Here are my
02:10 top five mentions. Number one, the ultra thin display from Buzik. These glasses are so thin
02:18 they look like normal glasses and they're wireless so you can wear them and move around anywhere.
02:22 Plus no compute on them. All the computers sitting in a separate device somewhere on your body.
02:27 So you can go around and see things as if you are normally watching them and there are stereoscopic
02:33 cameras that can live stream what you are seeing to anyone. Fabulous, isn't it? One problem, these
02:39 are monochrome screens with very low resolution. The resolution problem is solved by the number
02:45 two on the list, the Digilens Argo. This one has 4k resolutions in each of the eyes with full color.
02:53 You know, there's one problem with this one too, a small field of vision. Very beautiful,
02:58 but you can't see all across. The third one on the list, the HyperVision 240, solves that field
03:05 of vision problem. From a small screen you get a 240 degree screen. Pretty much you can shift your
03:12 eyes without tilting your head. That's what you get with 4k screens, two on each eye. So you're
03:20 effectively getting a 16k resolution and you feel like you're exactly in the space because you don't
03:28 have to twist your head, just roll your eyes. That's how the HyperVision 240 works. Each of
03:35 the three that we talked about were commercial grade and really useful for applications. But,
03:41 you know, sometimes you wonder what will developers do? You know, these are very expensive and the
03:46 best developers can't afford too many of them. There comes in item number four on our list,
03:51 the Monocle from Brilliant Labs. While it is not a fully developed product because you can
03:57 stick it like a little lens on your glasses, it works beautifully because it is only $349
04:03 or 29,000 rupees and you can add, remove things in it and use it for a great testing purpose.
04:11 Just like the students at Stanford University did when they coupled an AR headset with ChatGPD
04:18 and in real time helped people both understand and respond as if they were supported by their
04:26 own personal assistant, the ChatGPD. So we talked about all the things in the world of extended
04:32 reality that are about vision. Thin glasses, colorful glasses, peripheral vision, 16k view.
04:39 But, you know, it's not just about seeing, it's also about feeling. The next one on the list is
04:45 Exit Suit. You know, the beauty of this one is it is a custom designed suit for your body so that
04:50 you can actually feel your body in this extended reality world. A suit that actually makes a full
04:57 exoskeleton from your hands to your legs to your entire spinal cord and your head. And it gives you
05:05 the feeling of flying and walking inside this world. With mini actuators and haptics, you actually
05:13 feel the objects you see. Move over movies, feelies are here. And that is what Aldous Huxley
05:20 imagined for the brave new world that we are entering.
