00:00 Alison's mother-in-law has got them coming for Christmas,
00:02 and because one person has to be gluten-free,
00:05 she's insisting that they're all gluten-free,
00:08 including Alison's 15-year-old, who's a bit of a fussy eater.
00:11 And when Alison said, "Can we bring our own food, then?
00:14 "You know, can he bring food in the snack box?"
00:16 She said no.
00:17 So she's treating celiac disease as if it's a kind of fatal,
00:21 potentially fatal peanut allergy,
00:23 and that they can't have anything with gluten in the house,
00:26 which is completely unreasonable.
00:28 That is not reasonable, Alison, at all.
00:30 Hello. I just seem to have offended some celiacs.
00:35 Certainly not intentionally.
00:38 Lots and lots of my very, very good friends are celiacs.
00:40 In fact, there are loads and loads in Ireland,
00:42 and I spend an awful lot of time hanging out in Ireland.
00:44 So I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone.
00:47 And actually, I don't think I said anything that was wrong
00:50 or factually incorrect or anything like that.
00:52 But just in case, we're going to clear up everything there is to know
00:55 about what it's like to be a celiac,
00:57 what you can eat, what you can't eat,
01:00 how expensive, of course, it is to eat a gluten-free diet.
01:03 Maximum respect to all people suffering from celiac disease,
01:07 which I know is really, really a difficult thing to live with.
01:10 And let's iron out any of the bumps in the road on my show today,
01:13 sending everybody love, tidings of comfort and joy
01:16 and lots of goodwill in this festive season.
