In 2023, Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday. Which means that Catholics have an obligation to attend both Sunday Mass and a Christmas Mass. We spell out your options for fulfilling your two Mass obligations.
Transcript
00:00 Christmas on a Monday means Mass twice this year.
00:07 Keep watching to see your options.
00:08 Sunday December 24th is not only the fourth Sunday of Advent, it is also Christmas Eve.
00:14 So both the Advent Sunday and the solemnity of the Nativity of our Lord carry the obligation
00:19 for Mass.
00:20 To fulfill your obligation for the fourth Sunday of Advent, you can attend either a
00:23 Saturday night vigil or a regular Sunday Mass.
00:27 This includes the Christmas Vigil Mass.
00:28 Now to fulfill your obligation for Christmas, you can attend a Christmas Vigil Mass Sunday
00:33 evening, a Sunday night midnight Mass, or Mass on Christmas Day.
00:38 Note that the Christmas Vigil Mass on Sunday evening can count for either your obligation
00:43 for the fourth Sunday of Advent or Christmas, but it cannot fulfill the obligation for both.
00:48 It has to be one or the other.
00:49 So make sure you take some time this week to plan with your family.
00:52 And Merry Christmas from all of us here at Alatea.
