00:22 CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 because he always loved it there.

00:27 It's always been his home.

00:29 It's not his fault he hasn't seen Rocky 3!

00:31 He's had several in-ring promo appearances on TV since, but it appears his in-ring wrestling

00:37 return is being held off until 2024's Royal Rumble match - making it a neat 10 years to

00:43 the show from when he last wrestled in WWE.

00:48 But like most stats in WWE, it's based on lies.

00:52 Punk's actual in-ring return will happen a month earlier, just not on TV, where he's

00:56 been announced to wrestle Dominik Mysterio at house shows in Madison Square Garden on

01:00 the 26th December and the KIA Forum in Los Angeles on the 30th.

01:05 Punk promoted the match while commentating on the MMA promotion Cage Fury Fighting Championship,

01:10 saying he's wanted to punch Dom since he was 8 years old - a reference to Punk's

01:15 fantastic 2010 feud with Rey Mysterio, which saw an actually 12 year old Dominik watch

01:20 on as Punk creepily sang Happy Birthday to Rey's daughter.

01:23 But Dominik has grown up a lot since those days, and he's not afraid to fight dirty,

01:29 replying to Punk "punch me like this please @CMPunk #BestInTheWorld" with a gif of Punk

01:35 botching a springboard flying punch off the top rope in AEW.

01:39 Oh, I'm getting breaking news just in - Dominik has been banned from Collision.

01:44 But Dom posted that from a place of long-term security, as PWInsider has reported he has

01:49 signed a new WWE contract a month or so back, which one source believes is for five years.

01:56 Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer followed this up by revealing Dom's father Rey has

02:00 also re-signed with WWE.

02:03 Despite wrestling in the main event of the AEW Prologue show All In back in 2018, where

02:08 he could've been one of the major players early in the promotion, Rey chose to return

02:12 to WWE as he thought that would be the best place for his son to train as a wrestler.

02:17 A bet that was pretty risky in 2018, given Vince McMahon's erratic booking at the time,

02:22 but one that has paid off massively - with Dominik becoming one of WWE's breakout stars

02:27 over the last year, with some of the loudest crowd reactions you can add in post.

02:32 It's also interesting to note that both of their new WWE contracts would've been

02:36 agreed before their existing ones expired, meaning they missed out on the chance to become

02:40 free agents and play WWE off AEW for more money.

02:46 That implies they're both very happy with their roles at the moment, and the rumoured

02:50 contract length of five years backs up reports Endeavor want to lock up talent for long periods

02:56 of time.

02:57 This will likely be the last full-time contract of Rey's illustrious career.

03:01 And it also rules out Mike Tenay screaming "what's the Mysterions doing in the IMPACT

03:06 ZONE?"

03:07 IMPACT Wrestling will be reverting to its original name, TNA Wrestling, from their Hard

03:12 to Kill pay-per-view on January 13th.

03:14 Going to promote their biggest event in years, the company's President Scott D'Amour

03:18 has told Busted Open Radio "we're going to have some surprises for you.

03:22 We are right there at the goal line of finalising one of the biggest signings in TNA.

03:29 I think it's something that is really going to shake things up here on January 13th."

03:34 Sean Ross Sapp has said he doesn't think this is Mercedes Monét, as he's seen the

03:38 'Monét' she's asking for, and he thinks it's out of TNA's budget.

03:42 Instead, it's far more likely to be one of the wrestlers released by WWE in September,

03:47 as their non-competes expire on the 21st December.

03:50 The only names that could really touch what Amore is hyping are Dolph Ziggler and Matt

03:55 Riddle.

04:03 Right it's Survival Series next week.

04:05 I know I can win, but only if Tempest doesn't ask me anything about the last couple of years

06:00 But anyway, it's time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka 5 star Miz edition of Monday

06:06 Night Raw… in about 5 minutes.

06:08 The final live Raw of 2023 opened like it was the Summer of 2023 with The Judgment Day

06:14 coming out for a promo to do their usual shtick.

06:17 But this time, R-Truth came out to ask why he, a member of Judgment Day, was not asked

06:22 to come out with The Judgment Day for a Judgment Day promo segment.

06:26 The Judgment Day told him, rather politely, he was not invited because he's not a member

06:31 of Judgment Day.

06:32 He responded by saying, "Well neither's JD."

06:35 And in fact, maybe their Miracle on 34th Street fight should be a Loser Leaves Judgment Day

06:42 match.

06:43 Finding this all rather charming, Damian Priest was seemingly about to accept the terms, but

06:47 Rhea Ripley stopped him.

06:48 But that didn't stop the stip from feeling real though, especially as Michael Cole kept

06:53 bringing it up despite protestations of Wade Barrett saying that Priest was only joking.

06:58 But it added a really nice layer to this silly plunder match which saw Truth and JD hit each

07:04 other with Christmas based things while Michael Cole said Christmas based phrases.

07:08 He won't have a "silent night", he hit him right in the "jingle bells", that

07:14 sure wasn't a nice "present for JD", etc.

07:19 Truth won by accidentally falling off the top rope, holding onto JD and crashing through

07:24 a table.

07:25 Later, Priest joked with JD that he was kicking him out of the group, but then Tom One scanted

07:29 him by saying that he can still be in the group.

07:33 This was a lot of fun, and a great way to open this festive edition of Monday Night

07:37 Raw.

07:38 Also can you tell that I've just finished watching Succession?

07:39 It's a good show that.

07:41 Nia Jax came out for a promo but was immediately interrupted by Becky Lynch who challenged

07:45 Jax to a match on Day 1.

07:47 This was another great promo from Becky and the two had a brawl which was pretty decent

07:52 and Jax stood tall.

07:54 Backstage Kofi Claus gave DIY a Jey Uso t-shirt and The Miz hyped up his match with Gunther

07:59 - the stakes of which were that, should Miz lose, he can never, ever challenge for the

08:05 IC title while Gunther is still champ.

08:09 And what a match this was.

08:11 I'm not the biggest Miz guy.

08:14 I think he's a solid mid-car wrestler, a reliable hand.

08:17 If you need a talk show segment, you might not find any better in WWE than The Miz.

08:22 If you need a three star match on TV or PPV, you could do a lot worse than The Miz.

08:28 I think The Miz is good.

08:30 I just found a lot of his comedy and jokes had grown stale and I just don't love him

08:35 the same way that a lot of you in the comments do.

08:38 And that's fine, we're not all going to like and love the same people, it would be

08:41 boring if we did.

08:43 But when I bring up that I think The Miz is good, I don't get a "well you're title

08:47 to your opinion but I disagree".

08:49 I always get the same reply, "you're wrong, he had a great 2016".

08:54 And to be fair, he did, the Talking Smack promo, the Dolph Ziggler match, he did have

08:58 a good 2016.

09:00 2016 was 7 years ago, Captain America Civil War came out in 2016, 2016 was a long time

09:06 ago.

09:07 But now, if I ever say that I think The Miz is good, I expect the replies to be "he

09:12 had a great feud with Gunther in 2023" and I will reply "you are entitled to your opinion

09:19 and I agree".

09:20 I was sceptical on Babyface Miz because the last two times we tried this it was a disaster,

09:26 but this has totally worked.

09:28 I am eating crow, I am eating hats, this is working and this crowd was so into The Miz.

09:36 And that drama, the guy who desperately wants to win this belt because he thinks he can

09:40 and should be thought of as one of the best IC champs in history vs. the actual best champion

09:46 IC title history was superb.

09:48 Gunther is on another level, he is a perfect wrestler, he's a perfect all-rounder, he's

09:55 just perfect.

09:56 And he played off Miz so well, even making Submission Miz look credible.

10:01 And my word these nearfalls.

10:04 As someone who wanted to see Gunther retain because he's a perfect champ and the best

10:07 thing in WWE right now in my humble opinion, these nearfalls made my heart leap into my

10:13 throats - the roll-up off The Sleeper, the Skull Crushing Finale, the Avalanche Skull

10:18 Crushing Finale, each one getting the crowd more and more hyped.

10:22 Which made Gunther's destruction of The Miz, Powerbomb, Rainmaker, a card that the

10:28 WWE confirmed, and another Powerbomb.

10:31 It made them all the more devastating.

10:34 This match, frankly, was f***ing brilliant.

10:37 With that said, STOP TRYING TO BREAK UP IMPERIUM.

10:41 Gunther scolded Kaiser and Vinci backstage, which later led to Kaiser getting beaten by

10:45 Jey Uso after they attacked Kofi Claus.

10:47 So much for all that protecting of Kaiser we were doing a few months back.

10:50 But the idea of Jey and Kofi teaming together fills my heart with joy given all their history

10:54 together.

10:55 Shinsuke Nakamura read from The American Nightmare Before Christmas - very clever - and then

10:59 brawled with Cody Rhodes.

11:00 The Party Girls then took on Chelsea Green and Piper Niven for the Women's Tag Titles

11:03 and surprisingly, won the bloody things.

11:06 Yeah, they won.

11:08 The Party Girls won the tag belts.

11:10 Okay then.

11:11 Ivar quickly beat Akira to the Zauer and later asked to be part of the conversation to next

11:15 face Gunther for the IC title, and Seth Rollins came out for a promo with Drew McIntyre.

11:20 Drew talked openly about leaving his family behind to chase his dreams even though it

11:25 hurts to miss the moments with your family that matter.

11:29 He doesn't want Seth's title, he needs Seth's title.

11:33 Just so he knows that all of the sacrifices he's made along the way were worth it.

11:39 Seth fired back by saying he's not even sure what to make of Drew when he's being

11:42 sincere like this because he doesn't believe he's being sincere.

11:46 He may hate CM Punk, but he doesn't hate Drew McIntyre.

11:50 He pities him.

11:51 Which, amazingly, is also taken from that Hangman promo.

11:56 So yeah, last week was not a coincidence.

11:58 Seth and Drew brawled, and Drew left him laying with an Alabama Slam onto the stairs.

12:03 This was all very good.

12:05 They announced that Ivy Noll will be facing Rhea Ripley for the women's title at day

12:09 one, and Bronson Reed also spoke with Adam Pearce about being part of the Gunther conversation.

12:13 And the main event saw Judgement Day retain their tag titles over the Creed Brothers in

12:17 a decent match which really put over Julius and Brutus.

12:21 Put them over as future tag champs.

12:24 Just not right now.

12:25 The few nearfalls that we got were really good and really did pop the crowd.

12:28 And it was a fine ending to what was a very good edition of Monday Night Raw.

12:32 The show blew by and caps off what has been a very, very good year for the red brand.

12:39 This week's Raw is 4 out of 5.
