00:00 - He's a superhero.
00:01 - Paula Godwin is praising her golden retriever today
00:04 after he protected her from a dangerous rattlesnake.
00:07 - Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:09 And today we're counting down iconic moments
00:11 when faithful dogs went the extra step
00:14 to help save the lives of people in heroic ways.
00:17 - I mean, she basically put her life on the line
00:20 for her girl.
00:21 And that I think is just mind blowing.
00:24 - Number 10, Kelsey.
00:28 On New Year's Eve in 2016,
00:30 Bob went outside his Michigan home
00:32 to grab wood for his fireplace.
00:35 However, he slipped on ice and broke his neck.
00:38 Unable to move, he yelled for help
00:40 as the temperature fell below freezing.
00:43 Yet no one heard except his golden retriever, Kelsey.
00:47 The pup lay on Bob to keep him warm
00:49 and licked his face to stop him from losing consciousness.
00:53 - When he lost his voice from screaming for help,
00:55 his dog kept barking.
00:56 - Even when Bob couldn't shout anymore,
00:59 Kelsey didn't stop barking.
01:01 After 20 hours, a neighbor went to check on the noise,
01:05 discovered what had happened,
01:06 and Bob was rushed to the hospital.
01:09 While he was hypothermic,
01:11 Bob didn't have any frostbite thanks to Kelsey.
01:14 - I don't think he would be living
01:16 unless the dog were there.
01:18 The dog kept him warm.
01:20 The dog kept him, his extremities warm.
01:24 He didn't have any frostbite.
01:26 - Bob had spinal decompression surgery
01:28 and was able to regain limb movement.
01:31 Number nine, Peanut.
01:33 When Peanut arrived at the Delta Animal Shelter
01:36 in Escanaba, Michigan,
01:38 she was in bad shape after horrible abuse.
01:41 But after being cared for,
01:42 she was adopted by a family who detailed her heroics.
01:45 In 2017, Peanut was acting strange.
01:49 She was running around the house and barking desperately.
01:52 As soon as the husband opened the door
01:54 for her to go outside,
01:55 Peanut sprinted to the field behind the house.
01:58 - They let her outside
01:59 and she took off full speed towards the ditch.
02:01 - He followed his pup and found a young girl
02:03 shivering in the cold without any clothes.
02:06 He picked her up and called the authorities
02:09 who discovered she was from an unsafe home.
02:11 Another girl had to be rescued from the property too.
02:15 - Police notified the girl's parents
02:16 and removed another child from the home.
02:18 They're in foster care until the investigation is finished.
02:21 - Peanut, the abused dog,
02:23 had saved two girls from a horrible home.
02:26 Number eight, Buddy and Hartley.
02:29 Toddler Thea Chase was besties with her family dogs,
02:32 Buddy the Rottweiler and Hartley the Springer Spaniel.
02:35 However, in 2013,
02:37 Thea vanished from a house in Faythorne, Michigan,
02:40 along with Buddy and Hartley.
02:42 - We're searching all around the yard,
02:44 up and down the road,
02:45 screaming at the top of our lungs her name,
02:48 calling for the dogs because the dogs were missing too.
02:51 - The family quickly called the police
02:53 and a search party was organized.
02:55 Five hours later and three miles from the property,
02:58 a searcher spotted a large Rottweiler in some woodlands.
03:02 As they approached,
03:03 they saw Thea napping on Hartley as Buddy kept guard.
03:07 - I'm thankful for the dogs being with her
03:09 because I guess when she was found,
03:12 the only reason she was found was because the dog was Buddy,
03:16 our bigger Rottweiler, was standing there.
03:18 - When the person tried to wake Thea,
03:20 the Springer growled at them,
03:22 warning them not to touch her.
03:23 The wandering toddler returned home
03:25 without any realization that anything scary had happened,
03:28 while the family was forever grateful to their dogs
03:31 for protecting Thea.
03:33 - We're thankful for the first responders
03:34 who were able to find her
03:36 and those two pups who just stayed with her.
03:38 - Number seven, Boo Boo.
03:40 In 2020, Navy veteran Rudy Armstrong
03:43 began his morning like usual
03:45 on his houseboat in Oriental, North Carolina.
03:48 After sitting down and enjoying a coffee,
03:51 the next thing he realized, it was hours later
03:54 and he couldn't move his limbs.
03:56 - I couldn't even get my hand to move
03:58 and my foot wouldn't move.
04:02 - Unfortunately, Armstrong was having a stroke
04:05 and no one would be coming for days.
04:07 Unable to get his phone,
04:09 he called for his chihuahua Boo Boo to get help
04:12 and that she did.
04:14 - So I said, "Okay, Boo Boo, go get me some help."
04:17 And she went and got help.
04:19 - The little dog went off and found the dockmaster,
04:22 forcing them to follow her back to Armstrong
04:24 and get him much needed medical help.
04:27 Five days after his hospitalization,
04:30 Armstrong was tearfully reunited with Boo Boo
04:32 in the medical center's gardens.
04:35 - Got tears running out of my eyes.
04:38 I missed her so much.
04:40 - Number six, Todd.
04:42 In 2018, Paula Godwin took her golden retrievers,
04:45 Todd and Copper, for a morning walk in Arizona.
04:49 All of a sudden, the six-month-old Todd sprinted by her leg.
04:53 Instantly, he began yelping.
04:55 Turns out, Godwin nearly stepped on a rattlesnake,
04:58 only for Todd to take the bite instead.
05:01 - And the snake got his nose
05:03 and then he started to rattle.
05:06 I jolted back and noticed it was a rattlesnake.
05:10 - Godwin picked up her brave pooch
05:12 and ran to get him medical help
05:14 less than 15 minutes after the attack.
05:17 With a swollen face, Todd was given antivenom
05:19 and stayed in the hospital for 12 hours.
05:22 But he recovered and soon received honors
05:25 and probably plenty of belly rubs.
05:27 - I am so grateful to him
05:30 because I'd probably still be in the hospital right now.
05:34 - At the Streamy Awards, Todd won Milk Bone Dog of the Year
05:38 for heroically protecting his human.
05:40 - Today, the D-backs honored the sweet puppy.
05:43 Look at him.
05:43 - Number five, Sergeant Stubby.
05:46 In 1917, James Conroy
05:49 of the US Army's 102nd Infantry Regiment
05:53 befriended a stray dog as the group was training.
05:56 Stubby became an unofficial mascot for the regiment
05:59 as they went off to fight in France during World War I.
06:02 - Stubby was a Boston Terrier mix that traveled to Europe
06:05 with a Connecticut unit during World War I.
06:08 - After surviving a mustard gas attack,
06:10 Stubby began warning soldiers of further attacks.
06:13 He also alerted people of incoming artillery fire
06:16 and located soldiers in no man's land.
06:19 - He played a key role in warning of incoming gas attacks
06:22 and staying with wounded soldiers until help arrived.
06:26 - Stubby was given the rank of sergeant
06:28 after capturing a German spy.
06:30 Even being injured several times
06:32 didn't stop the war hero pup.
06:34 At the end of World War I in 1918,
06:37 Conroy and Stubby returned home
06:39 and the dog became a celebrity.
06:41 After passing away in 1926,
06:44 Stubby's amazing legacy continues to inspire
06:47 nearly 100 years later.
06:49 - I wanted to capture his likeness, of course,
06:53 and that was from old photographs.
06:54 And, you know, I also wanted to capture
06:57 that beautiful spirit.
06:58 - Number four, Clover.
07:00 In 2021, Hayley Moore was walking the family rescue dog,
07:04 a Marama mix called Clover, in Ottawa, Canada.
07:08 Suddenly, Moore collapsed and began seizing
07:10 on the side of the road.
07:12 - Clover and I were on our daily walk,
07:15 and after that, I don't remember what happened.
07:18 All I remember was I woke up in an ambulance
07:22 being very, very confused of what was going on.
07:25 - Captured on a neighbor's security footage,
07:27 Clover tried to revive her as an oblivious car drove by.
07:31 But when that didn't work,
07:32 she spotted a van driven by Dryden Oatway approaching.
07:36 Clover ran into the middle of the road
07:38 and blocked his path, forcing him to get out
07:40 and see what had happened.
07:42 - And I just turned around the corner
07:43 and saw Clover in the middle of the street,
07:46 obviously pretty hard to miss,
07:47 being as she's such a big, beautiful white dog.
07:50 And then I had noticed Hayley lying face down on the ground.
07:54 - Another neighbor spotted Clover's actions
07:56 and, after realizing the situation,
07:58 went to get Moore's family along with the loyal hound.
08:01 Paramedics soon arrived and Moore was taken to the hospital.
08:05 She made a swift recovery thanks to Clover.
08:08 - I'm very grateful for her saving my life.
08:11 - Number three, Tank.
08:13 In November, 2022, Tank, the German shepherd,
08:16 was playing with his human boy on the lawn
08:18 at their property in Florida.
08:20 But shortly into the fun, a neighbor's dog broke away
08:23 and charged towards the child.
08:25 Reacting in a flash, Tank knocked over the boy
08:28 and covered him for protection.
08:30 Then Tank redirected the other dog's attack
08:33 before striking himself to scare the attacker away.
08:36 The family's other dog, a pit bull,
08:39 also bolted into action.
08:41 Tank even checked the boy several times
08:43 during his heroics before his mom arrived.
08:45 Thankfully, the neighbor got control of the dog
08:48 and the possibility of catastrophe was averted,
08:51 all thanks to Tank's incredible work.
08:54 Number two, Roselle.
08:56 On September 11th, 2001, Roselle, the guide dog,
09:00 was snoozing as her human, Michael Hinkson,
09:03 worked on the 78th floor of Tower One
09:05 of the World Trade Center.
09:07 Then, several floors above them,
09:09 the hijacked American Airlines Flight 11
09:12 crashed into the building.
09:13 - My colleague in the office, David Frank,
09:16 started shouting, "Oh my God, there's fire and smoke
09:18 "above us, we gotta get out of here right now."
09:20 And I kept saying, "David, slow down."
09:22 - Roselle sprang to action as the building
09:25 filled with smoke and debris fell.
09:27 She calmly guided Hinkson and 30 other people
09:30 down the steps to safety.
09:32 - I took Roselle's harness and gave her
09:33 the appropriate commands such as to go forward,
09:36 to go left and right and so on,
09:37 to get where we needed to go.
09:39 It was my responsibility to know how to get to the stairs
09:42 and her job to make sure that we walked safely.
09:44 - Shortly after they got outside, Tower Two had collapsed.
09:48 Yet, Roselle remained focused on her mission
09:51 and got Hinkson to the subway,
09:53 where they helped an injured woman before heading home.
09:55 Hinkson began working for the guide dogs for the blind
09:59 due to his heroic dog, who became a celebrity.
10:02 - Roselle passed away in 2011,
10:04 the same year Hinkson published "Thunder Dog",
10:07 telling the story of a man and his guide dog.

10:24 Number one, Seiko.
10:28 In 2015, teenager Joseph Phillips Garcia and his dog Seiko
10:32 were traveling back with his aunt, cousin, and a friend
10:35 after a day of fishing and foraging
10:37 in British Columbia, Canada.
10:39 Sadly, the vehicle crashed,
10:41 leaving Phillips Garcia and Seiko as the only survivors.
10:45 - I could feel the truck going over,
10:47 didn't really know what was going on.
10:50 It went black after that.
10:51 - However, the teen was seriously injured and couldn't move.
10:55 For two days, Phillips Garcia drifted in
10:58 and out of consciousness as Seiko lay on him to keep warm.
11:02 - He got up as soon as he realized
11:05 their scent was coming closer and closer.
11:07 And then he just went in.
11:09 You could hear them just fighting
11:11 and the bushes ruffling around.
11:14 - Presence of dogs tends to keep those animals at bay.
11:17 Seiko did play a huge role in his survival.
11:20 - The King Shepherd also fought off predatory animals
11:23 to keep his humans safe and dragged him
11:25 to a creek to drink water.
11:27 Thankfully, the duo was found and the teen was rushed
11:30 to the hospital for multiple surgeries.
11:33 Seiko was inducted into the Purina Hall of Fame
11:36 for his incredible dedication.
11:38 - I don't really understand my part of surviving,
11:41 but a big part of it was Seiko.
11:43 - Which dog stole your heart and became your favorite?
11:46 Let us know in the comments.
11:48 - Todd feeling much better now
