A rare superpod of dolphins was spotted off the coast of East Sussex.

The pod was spotted by fisherman Jake Davison, 27, who estimates that a whopping 500 dolphins were there.

The amazing footage shows masses of dolphins leaping from the sea and doing pirouettes underwater, 10 miles off the coast of Eastbourne.

Jake, a railway worker who regularly fishes in the area, said he'd never seen this many dolphins in one place.

He said: "It’s quite a rare sighting to see common dolphins in this part of the UK and especially in the numbers we saw.

"We estimated around 500 were present."

Jake was moving from one spot to another when he noticed a lot of movement in the water.

He said: "We had been fishing for a few hours filming for my Muscle Fishing YouTube Channel when upon changing fishing marks we spotted a huge commotion.

"We saw huge amounts of dolphins jumping, chasing and swimming together and before we knew it we were in the middle of the pod.

"They put on a huge display for us and the feeling was magical. We felt privileged to see such an occurrence."

Jake added: "It’s believed this dolphin event happens about once a year when multiple pods meet up to feed and relocate.

"The whole event will stay with us for life and each time I experience dolphins it’s a pleasure to have seen it.

"You feel like you have witnessed a bit of the natural world's magic."
