00:00 Where to begin? TV in Tinseltown's 2023 legacy is set to be a strong one as we nostalgically
00:06 look back at Barbenheimer Summer and remember exactly where we were when we watched the
00:11 Succession season finale. So let's take a look back at some of the biggest moments in
00:16 TV and film this year. All spoiler free, of course. Now, Hollywood has been put on pause
00:22 for a significant chunk of the year amidst the Writers Guild of America and the Screen
00:26 Actors Guild strikes. These strikes came to an end in September and November, respectively,
00:31 but there were plenty of major movie moments which we remember nonetheless. Achieving a
00:35 whopping 1.34 billion at box office, Barbie well and truly dominated our year. Whether
00:42 you've got the tune "I'm Just Ken" stuck in your head or you found yourself weeping to
00:46 the touching final moments of the film ever since, it's safe to say that life in plastic
00:51 has really been proven fantastic. On to Barbie's moody soul sister of sorts, Christopher Nolan's
00:56 Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy saw the story of the scientists who spent years developing
01:02 and designing the atomic bomb. Having released on the same day as Barbie, this sent social
01:07 media into an explosive frenzy. Now, on to the second highest grossing film of the year.
01:12 Released back in April, Super Mario Bros. hit 1.3 billion at the global box office and
01:17 impressively surpassed Frozen as the second biggest animated film of all time. With sequels
01:22 set to be on their way and a catchy song you might sing on the daily, it seems to have
01:27 been a super smash. Speaking of music, it seems the cinema has been no stranger to a
01:33 concert film or two. Whilst a Taylor Swift concert ticket might have been few and far
01:37 between, the era's tour film definitely did some numbers at the box office. With viralised
01:42 TikToks of people singing in theatres, it's no wonder the film saw fans flock. And in
01:47 quick succession, it was Renaissance, a film by Beyonce, which saw super fans come in their
01:51 droves to watch Queen B on the big screen. Now, speaking of a quick succession, I think
01:57 that takes us well into our TV roundup of the year, don't you? Succession is a TV series
02:02 that self-proclaimably dives into the intricate world of wealth, power and family dynamics.
02:07 The finale of the show premiered back in May and The Guardian called it "depressingly
02:12 realistic, but furious and heartbreaking from start to finish". Sending social media into
02:17 a spin, fans of the show continue amiss the critically acclaimed show. It's been a year
02:21 of shocking finales because back in February, Happy Valley had the nation on the edge of
02:25 its seat. It's been called one of the greatest trilogies in modern television, with actress
02:29 Sarah Langish's performance being referred to as "truly monumental" by The Guardian.
02:34 And it's no doubt a series I can imagine people going back for a second and third rewatch.
02:38 In terms of reality TV, 2023 saw the revival of the legendary Big Brother. From Salmon
02:44 Gate to the epic love story of Jordan and Henry, or Jenry, Big Brother proved a hit.
02:50 And ITV have revealed that Celebrity Big Brother will be coming to our screens in March 2024.
02:55 Now, have we missed any? What were your favourite TV and film moments of 2023?
