00:00 Relatives of two people killed at a South London music venue have renewed their appeal
00:06 for information one year on from the deadly crush.
00:10 23-year-old security guard Gabby Hutchinson and 33-year-old Rebecca Ikuemlu were killed
00:16 when fans who claimed to have tickets tried to force their way into a show by Nigerian
00:21 artist Asake at the Otu at Brixton Academy in December 2022.
00:27 About 1,000 people were outside the venue and police found large-scale disorder, with
00:32 crowds eventually pushing the doors open, according to Gerald Gurrier, who represented
00:38 the Met at an earlier licensing hearing.
00:42 A year on, the Met police have released images of people they would like to speak to in relation
00:47 to the incident.
00:49 Now friends and family of the victims have called for a renewed appeal and say they are
00:53 still suffering from the heartbreak of the incident that occurred 12 months ago.
00:59 Calling his daughter an angel, Mr Ikuemlu said there are still lots of questions to
01:04 be answered.
01:05 He added that the most important thing is to make sure that this doesn't happen to
01:09 another family.
01:11 After the incident at Brixton Academy, the venue faced permanent closure after the Metropolitan
01:17 Police urged the council to remove its licence.
01:20 But following a two-day hearing back in September, Lambeth Council's licensing sub-committee
01:25 voted to allow the venue to continue operating so long as it meets 77 extensive and robust
01:32 new conditions.
01:34 The Met's senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Penny, said
01:40 the force are keen to address the tragic incident that happened a year ago with its investigation
01:46 and want to let people know that the Met police are still tirelessly working extremely hard
01:51 trying to ascertain the actual detail of how this tragic event happened.
