Singers RM and V of the K-pop band BTS began their mandatory military duties under South Korean law

00:00 Korean megaband BTS is on hiatus until 2025 while all seven of its members fulfill mandatory military service.
00:06 Singers RM and V began their duties this week and arrived at an army boot camp to start their 18-month compulsory service.
00:13 Jimin and Jungkook are also expected to start their duties in the army together according to the band's management company.
00:18 And Jin, J-Hope, and Suga are already months into their conscription with Jin and J-Hope serving in the army while Suga is a social service agent.
00:26 The Military Manpower Administration has stressed that the singers must go through the same process as other South Korean males.
00:32 Under South Korean law, most able-bodied men must perform 18 to 21 months of military service.
00:38 Special exemptions are granted for athletes and classical artists who excel in international competitions tied to national prestige.
00:45 But the exemptions haven't been extended to the K-pop singers.
00:48 The seven singers of BTS plan to reunite as a group sometime in 2025 after they all finish their service.
00:54 And in an Instagram post before RM left for duty, he said, "See you in the future. I love you a lot."
