00:00 from iconic last-ever performances to deeply uncomfortable sequences that are likely better
00:05 left untouched.
00:06 These are just a few of the TV moments that are no longer officially available to watch
00:10 anymore.
00:11 The always watchable Gareth here though from WhatCulture.com and here are 10 TV show episodes
00:16 you can no longer watch.
00:18 10.
00:19 Buffalo Gals - Cow and Chicken
00:20 Children's cartoons have a funny old habit of unleashing some rather jarring material
00:24 into the world from time to time, and that was never more evident than during a season
00:28 2 episode of Cartoon Network's Cow and Chicken by the name of Buffalo Gals.
00:33 Containing a great many insensitive jokes at the expense of lesbians throughout, the
00:37 overall presentation of the titular cartoon ladies on show as dirty and excessively gross
00:42 inevitably led to the show receiving a decent amount of backlash upon its initial airing
00:46 in February 1998.
00:48 Sure enough, this would mark the first and last time the controversial episode would
00:51 ever air on TV, with the orthodontic police entry replacing it in subsequent time slots
00:56 and on streaming services going forward.
00:58 When a show comes equipped with painfully unfunny visuals such as said Buffalo Gals
01:02 eating carpets and enjoying their favourite pastime of softball, it's probably for the
01:07 best that it never sees the light of day ever again.
01:09 9.
01:10 The Beatles' Last Performance - Top of the Pops
01:12 Still sitting in the hearts of many as the greatest band ever to warble a tune, it often
01:16 feels as though just about every trailblazing moment of the Beatles' groundbreaking career
01:21 has been captured and brought to a screen at some point or another over the years.
01:24 Yet one specific moment of Beatlemania that still hasn't ever been re-released in its
01:29 entirety actually just so happens to be the iconic band's last ever TV performance as
01:33 a unit from way back in 1966.
01:36 With the BBC unfortunately not keeping tapes around that time, the Top of the Pops performance
01:41 of paperback writer from the Four Rock Stars was thought to have been completely lost forever
01:45 up until a few years back.
01:47 Then, on the back of a staggering 11 seconds of personally recorded footage of the foursome
01:51 miming along in silence was dug up by a collector in Mexico, a further 92 seconds of them doing
01:57 their thing was sent to the television archive organisation Kaleidoscope by music enthusiast
02:02 David Chandler.
02:03 You still can't watch the entire performance from start to finish in its original quality
02:07 mind, but these fans are simply refusing to let it be.
02:10 8.
02:11 Rude Removal - Dexter's Laboratory
02:13 Returning to Cartoon Network's late 90s penchant for producing content that was always
02:17 destined to piss off some parents, Dexter's Laboratory's Rude Removal video is a classic
02:21 that very nearly made its presence briefly known on the channel back in 1997.
02:26 With the planned season 2 segment containing shots of Dexter and Sister Dee Dee's rude
02:30 clones going on a mad one after the former invents a "Rude Removal Machine", the sight
02:35 of the two characters swearing like troopers despite said curses being bleeped out was
02:39 enough to convince those running the channel to keep it from airing on TV.
02:42 However, the episode would ultimately find new life on the animation festival circuit
02:46 for a time, and this would eventually lead to Adult Swim getting their paws on the profanity-packed
02:51 entity later down the line.
02:53 Then after being uploaded to their official site in a censored capacity in January 2013,
02:57 the episode was made private and taken down shortly after.
03:00 Though unofficially re-uploaded and entirely uncensored versions of the chaotic ep may
03:05 or may not have managed to wiggle onto YouTube in the end.
03:08 7.
03:09 Flying Jupes - Tailspin
03:10 You've likely spotted a theme by now of those responsible for bringing the next generation
03:15 their daily dose of seemingly harmless entertainment in the 90s actually being at the centre of
03:19 some of the most controversial content being put on television at the time.
03:23 And it wasn't just those folks plying their trade under the Cartoon Network banner who
03:27 let loose some rather unexpectedly shocking scenes during this period, with Disney's
03:32 Tailspin series also producing a rather startling sequence of TV too.
03:36 Coming during the series' final episode entitled "Flying Jupes", Baloo is tasked
03:41 with delivering a package for the Thembrian High Marshal.
03:44 Only said item, unbeknownst to the bear, just so happened to be a bomb.
03:47 No prizes for figuring out why this one ended up on the scrap heap then.
03:50 With this sort of terrorist theme being very much present in the content, it came as little
03:54 surprise to see the episode banned soon enough, outside of it seemingly being aired by mistake
03:59 on Toon Disney at the end of the decade.
04:01 And despite being released on DVD in 2013, it's also still unavailable on the likes
04:05 of iTunes and Disney Plus to this day.
04:07 6.
04:08 Smart and Smarterer - The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
04:11 Keeping with the House of Mouse now, and to those seemingly sweet little scamps occupying
04:15 a swanky room in the Tipton Hotel for a couple of years in the mid-noughties, only things
04:20 weren't always as innocent as they seemed when it pertained to Zack and Cody's suite
04:23 life in Boston.
04:24 In fact, one episode under the title of "Smart and Smarterer" - yes, an apparent riff on
04:29 that terrible Dumb and Dumber sequel - was deemed so damn offensive that it actually
04:33 wound up being pulled from the air before long.
04:35 With said showing depicting Zack faking having dyslexia in order to earn some extra time
04:40 to finish off his tests, on the back of picking up some bad grades, the way the show frames
04:44 the learning disability didn't go down too well with viewers, and it would only be shown
04:48 on the Disney Channel twice.
04:50 And though the rest of the show is available on Disney Plus at this current moment, you
04:53 will not find Smart and Smarterer on the streaming service, and Disney would likely prefer you
04:58 forget this Dylan and Cole Sprouse entry ever saw the light of day in the first place.
05:02 5.
05:03 Hot Spells - Darkwing Duck
05:05 Rounding off the Disney section of this collection of episodes long since stripped away from
05:09 their House of Mouse, here's that time Darkwing Duck's Halloween 1992 offering stirred up
05:14 a little controversy upon initially tricking and not treating some of its audience.
05:18 As seen in the Hot Spells episode, the titular leading light and gosling take a trip to Morgana's
05:24 old magic school, only to bump into a devilish character by the name of Beaslepub, who most
05:29 definitely rubbed parents up the wrong way out of the gates.
05:32 With the character very much playing the role of devil-like being in the ep, and tempting
05:36 the protagonist to use forbidden spells throughout, the dark religious undertones within the showing
05:41 were deemed unsuitable for kids, to the point of pulling the episode off the air.
05:45 In more modern times, this Satan's Stuff series entry is still unavailable to purchase
05:49 from the likes of iTunes and Google TV, or stream on Disney+.
05:53 Despite Beaslepub still very much being present in the first season's dead duck episode
05:57 that is actually watchable via any of those services.
06:00 How strange.
06:01 4.
06:02 The Feast of Stephen - Doctor Who
06:04 Returning to the anything but reliable BBC archives, the British Broadcasting Corporation's
06:09 frustrating policy of wiping footage to make way for newer content back in the day ultimately
06:14 led to a decent amount of old-school Doctor Who episodes being lost forever.
06:18 Among these many discarded tapings was none other than the show's first ever Christmas
06:23 special, something that would become a beloved hallmark of the series over the years.
06:27 Going by the name of The Feast of Stephen, this Christmas Day 1965 programme acted as
06:31 a comic detour away from the epic tale being told coming into the episode.
06:36 With the first Doctor William Hartnell even taking a sonic screwdriver to the fourth wall
06:40 in the final scene, and bizarrely telling folks at home "incidentally, a happy Christmas
06:45 to all of you at home".
06:46 Outside of the odd photograph being preserved of the showing in question, this surreal holiday
06:51 treat appears to have pretty much been erased forever.
06:53 3.
06:54 Topless Showgirls - Dance Moms
06:56 It's not exactly difficult to see why this one has long since been buried by lifetime
07:00 based on the title of the episode alone.
07:02 But that still didn't stop the network from running with said Topless Showgirls moniker
07:06 and the content in general when the time came to air the dodgy season 2 episode back in
07:11 2012.
07:12 And unsurprisingly, the sight of 8-13 year old girls being taught a showgirls routine,
07:17 whilst wearing body suits that made it look as though they were nude, on the reality TV
07:20 show did not go down well with the masses.
07:23 On top of changing the episode name to Costume Drama, the show was pulled from future airings
07:28 of Dance Moms on Lifetime, and ended up not being made available on various digital or
07:33 streaming service platforms later down the line.
07:35 It's also worth noting that despite eventually backtracking due to the backlash, Lifetime
07:39 did actually boast about the episode's impressive ratings of 2.7 million viewers not long after
07:44 its initial airing.
07:45 Though they likely won't be in too much of a rush to talk about their deeply uncomfortable
07:49 episode nowadays.
07:50 2.
07:51 Unstoppable - Law & Order SVU
07:53 After initially being filmed and scheduled for release back in October 12, 2016, Law
07:58 & Order SVU's episode by the name of Unstoppable found itself being regularly delayed and pushed
08:03 back until NBC eventually made the call to leave the episode out of the series altogether
08:07 in the end.
08:08 Why was this very much stoppable slice of police procedural never given the chance to
08:12 make its presence known on our screens I hear you ask?
08:15 Well the episode centred around a figure who very much resembled a certain future president
08:19 of the United States, Donald Trump, and said character would eventually be accused of rape
08:23 during the episode as he attempted to run for president.
08:26 With Trump himself being accused of sexual harassment and assault around the time of
08:30 the elections that would be going down as the Unstoppable episode was set to air, this
08:34 real-life development alongside his surprise victory resulted in the entry being swiftly
08:38 brushed under the carpet despite word of a tentative 2017 release.
08:43 Despite all this though, you can actually still find a promo for the scrapped episode
08:45 on YouTube, so there's that.
08:48 1.
08:49 Episode 847 - Sesame Street
08:50 Send you home now with one last entirely creepy slice of apparently kid-friendly television.
08:56 Sesame Street's 1976 attempt to use the Wizard of Oz's terrifying Wicked Witch of
09:00 the West as a way of teaching children the value of facing their fears went down about
09:04 as well as you'd have imagined.
09:06 Not long after episode 847, depicting the witch losing her broom and going on a tear
09:10 through the street, sweeped into the nightmares of youngsters the world over, PBS were inundated
09:16 with mail and calls from parents scolding them for frightening their tykes.
09:20 Some of which now refused to switch back on the show out of fear of Margaret Hamilton
09:23 once again showing up to spook the life out of them, 37 years on from her first Wicked
09:28 showing.
09:29 With this level of fuss being made about the cackling villain's appearance, the banning
09:33 of the episode became inevitable, and it's still yet to be made officially available
09:36 on the likes of Hulu or HBO Max, with only those using the footage for research being
09:41 permitted to take in the chilling content via the American Archive of Public Broadcasting
09:45 in certain locations.
09:47 Simply put, even nearly four decades on, Hamilton had not lost an unsettling step.
09:52 And that's our list!
