00:05 -Nickelodeon, if you want to know about it,
00:08 it's a kid-owned environment.
00:11 -It didn't feel like the version of what an adult was
00:13 telling a kid to watch.
00:15 It felt like really what kids were into.
00:19 -I don't know.
00:20 -Kids can smell from 1,000 miles away when they're
00:26 being sold a bunch of crap.
00:27 -If it was a tiny bit naughty, kids
00:29 would really appreciate that and feel that it was real
00:31 and it was really for them.
00:32 -You can't do that on TV.
00:34 -No one really knew if it was going to end up being
00:37 successful.
00:38 -We were the anti-Disney.
00:40 We were the anti-Saturday morning.
00:41 -We wanted less acting.
00:43 We wanted more normal kids.
00:45 -How come everybody draws babies as these beautiful ones?
00:47 When they first come out, heads are kind of weird looking,
00:49 kind of funny looking.
00:50 And that's why the Rugrats were drawn like they were.
00:53 -The inmates were very much running the asylum back then.
00:55 It was way easier to slip stuff in.
00:57 -They trusted us.
00:58 I mean, the stuff we got away with was insane.
01:02 -There's something about just making a show that
01:05 is just about laughing.
01:06 It's about having fun.
01:07 And it's about just being silly.
01:09 -When we all got together, we knew
01:11 there was something magical.
01:12 -To have that diversity in a show,
01:15 it gave a lot of hope to a lot of kids
01:17 coming from different walks of life saying,
01:19 oh, I can do this too.
01:20 -Mothers were going to work for the first time.
01:22 Divorce rates were high.
01:24 Kids were either coming home alone or in after school
01:27 programs.
01:28 They needed a place where they could just be kids.
01:32 They want a childhood.
01:33 Let's give it to them.
01:34 -So there's all those crazy things that happen that nobody
01:38 knows about.
