Transcript
00:00 The country's tourism development is continuing.
00:02 In fact, the Department of Tourism predicted that the Philippines has already surpassed the target of tourist arrivals this year.
00:10 And it is expected to increase, especially since the DOT is already arranging for more direct flights to the Philippines.
00:19 Ron Lagusan is the center of the news.
00:23 After the Department of Tourism surpassed their target of 4.8 million international tourist arrivals this year,
00:30 which is now more than 5 million, the DOT also increased its target for 2024,
00:36 which is now at 7.7 million international tourist arrivals.
00:40 And with the DOT's efforts to achieve this, it is also encouraging other countries,
00:45 such as Italy, UK, France, and airlines, to have direct flights to the Philippines.
00:52 We have also been in close collaboration with our international aviation partners.
00:57 Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and Qatar have already joined.
01:01 That has actually added more flights to the country, not just to Manila, but also to Cebu and Davao.
01:08 Overall, we really would like more flights from the U.S.
01:12 because the U.S. continues to be one of the top source markets for the country.
01:18 They're in the top five.
01:20 The country also wanted to open up for European travelers for in-demand activities here, such as diving.
01:26 According to the DOT, the reason why the target was reached this year is because it is the leading beach and dive destination of the country.
01:33 The Philippines is one of the countries known as the Global Tourism Resilience Awardee.
01:38 We have now recovered 95% of our visitor receipts in terms of international arrivals.
01:47 And in conjunction with our 7.7 million target for international visitors for 2024,
01:57 we're hopeful that we can reach the 440 billion mark next year for international receipts.
02:05 South Korea, China, and Japan are also the remaining top source markets of the country.
02:09 While the DOT continues to give attention to diving, golf, health and wellness, medical tourism, and pilgrimage here,
02:16 cruise tourism is also included in the list of the top markets.
02:20 The DOT wants to give the opportunity to local governments to visit the country.
02:26 The Philippines will continue to promote tourism in the country.
02:32 This includes the implementation of infrastructure and connectivity challenges in the country,
02:36 such as the approval of marine transportation, road mobilization for the country.
