00:00 Being a kid in the 80s and early 90s was pretty awesome.
00:10 We had a huge pop culture boom around every corner and a lot of those shaped who we became
00:16 as adults.
00:17 From Saturday morning cartoons, to Nintendo, action figures, collectible trading cards,
00:24 and most importantly, movies.
00:28 There was nothing quite like waking up in the middle of the night, sneaking downstairs
00:32 to grab that secret stash of Oreos from the kitchen, and tiptoeing into the living room
00:36 to catch the latest late night action flick on HBO.
00:41 Action movies were kind of at their height at the time and if you wanted to see them,
00:45 you only had a few options back then.
00:48 Either something was already on TV, or you could go down to the video store and see what
00:53 you could find.
00:55 Now, this was a traditional thing growing up in the 80s and action was one of the most
01:00 popular genres by far.
01:02 You could always count on explosions, guns, heroes, villains, and of course, crazy fight
01:09 scenes.
01:13 At the time, martial arts was sort of just blowing up in action films and it affected
01:17 us all.
01:18 From classics like Bloodsport to Big Trouble in Little China, we certainly got our fill
01:24 of next level fighting in movies.
01:28 Now I wouldn't be talking to you or doing this if it weren't for a phone call from a
01:32 man named Jeff Langton.
01:35 So who's Jeff Langton?
01:37 Well, he's a martial artist, stuntman, and actor who's been in tons of action flicks
01:43 we watched growing up.
01:45 But for those of us who are big fans of Van Damme movies, he's this guy.
01:49 You're kind of pretty.
01:51 I don't know if I want to fight you.
01:56 Well, fuck you.
01:58 Boom!

02:03 As soon as he told me he was the guy in the movie Lionheart who says that classic line,
02:09 I knew exactly who he was.
02:12 So originally, we set out to make a documentary about Jeff himself.
02:17 But as we did, it grew into something bigger.
02:20 And the deeper we dug, the more people started showing up.
02:24 And these aren't just ordinary people.
02:28 These are legendary world champion martial artists that not only have been well known
02:32 for loads of action films throughout the 80s and the 90s, but they're also pioneers of
02:37 their trade, changing the shape of martial arts as we know it.
02:42 The more we talked to them, the more we realized how much love and camaraderie they have for
02:47 Jeff and for each other.
02:50 This is a story about world-renowned martial artists that graced the silver screen, gave
02:55 us incredible fight scenes, introduced martial arts into pop culture, and how what we saw
03:02 on that screen was only part of their story.
