Transcript
00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has visited Japan for a commemorative summit.
00:09 This is what Alan Francisco has to say.
00:12 The President is leaving on the 15th for Tokyo to attend the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations.
00:29 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is traveling to Japan on December 15 to attend the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan friendship and cooperation.
00:39 In his press briefing, DFA Assistant Secretary Daniel Espiritu said that this event is important
00:45 because Japan is one of the first dialogue partners of ASEAN and one of the most dynamic.
00:50 The issues related to security, economic cooperation, socio-cultural and people-to-people activities will be discussed here.
00:59 One of the objectives of this summit is exactly to announce the comeuppance of Japan as a comprehensive strategic partner of ASEAN.
01:10 A thing that was already confirmed during the last summit of ASEAN in Jakarta.
01:17 Because the transnational crime situation in the region is being discussed, Espiritu said,
01:22 it is possible to talk about the bombing incident in Marawi, Kamakailan.
01:27 On December 15, President Marcos' first activity is the bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
01:34 On December 16, there are other forums that will be held by business leaders in Japan.
01:40 On December 16, there will also be a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Kishida.
01:45 The summit will be held on December 17, where discussions will be held on South China Sea, East China Sea, Myanmar, North Korea and others.
01:57 The opening session will start at 9.30 and then it will be followed by a session on reviewing ASEAN-Japan relations as well as international and regional developments.
02:11 There will also be an ASEAN-Japan Economic Partnership where discussions will be held on climate change, food and energy security, connectivity and infrastructure and others.
02:22 According to Espiritu, this event is important in the Philippines as one of the contributors to the Youth and People-to-People Exchange and Sports Program.
02:30 The delegation of the Philippines to the summit will also have bilateral business meetings where status will be discussed on the previous pledges and agreements that were added by President Marcos' visit to Japan in February.
02:43 This is important because I remember during our last briefing, one of the questions posed here was what happened to the pledges before, right?
02:53 So this will be an opportunity for us to see what the progress are.
02:57 And mind you, there are a lot here. I won't go into the details. There are a lot of businesses involved and they are on different levels of progress and development.
03:09 Let's just wait for this meeting to finish for us to have something more definitive.
03:16 There will also be a "Kapihan with Media" on December 18, which will be followed by an event at the Imperial Palace.
03:21 This is an audience with the Japanese Emperor and the Japanese Empress. Of course, the President will be there.
03:28 On the same day, December 18, the President will return to the Philippines.
03:34 Alan Francisco for the nation.
03:36 Zabaya!
