00:00 You know, there's a term for the frustration people feel
00:02 when they're trying to open this stupid packaging.
00:05 It's called rap rage, and boy, have I gotten it.
00:08 - Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:10 And today we're looking at simple how-to facts
00:12 you'll wish you'd known all along.
00:14 - I believe the proper way to do it
00:17 and the way it should be done
00:18 and the only way it should be done is under.
00:21 - You don't need a knife and spoon to eat an orange,
00:25 but it turns out they come in very handy for peeling one.
00:27 Sure, you can try to rip off a starting piece of peel
00:30 with your nail or even worse, bite it off
00:32 like it's Evander Holyfield's ear and you're Mike Tyson.
00:35 Instead, just lightly cut around the equator
00:37 of the orange with a knife.
00:38 Then use the handle end of the spoon
00:40 to jimmy off the top half in one dome-shaped piece.
00:43 Repeat for the bottom half.

00:51 You know when you go to pull the bag of garbage
00:53 out of your can and the suction makes it sticky
00:55 and awkward to remove?
00:56 Well, just drill a few small holes into the side of the can
00:59 and this will remove the air pressure
01:01 and alleviate the suction issue.
01:03 There's nothing quite like a slice
01:05 of yummy, fluffy, homemade bread,
01:07 except that the act of slicing the fresh bread
01:10 usually leaves one with a yummy,
01:11 squished-up piece of homemade bread.
01:13 Well, not anymore.
01:15 Just flip the bread over and cut through the thicker
01:17 and crustier bottom layer first.
01:19 And in some cases, cutting at an angle may also help.
01:22 We all love a good juice box,
01:24 but we don't love how sometimes just holding the box
01:27 can put enough pressure on it
01:28 to cause a juice eruption out of the straw
01:30 and all over our hands and clothes.
01:32 But that's just what those little handles are for.
01:35 You know, those little triangle flaps on the side
01:36 that no one knows why they're there?
01:38 Well, that's why, to hold onto so as not to squeeze the box
01:42 and spill the juice.
01:43 How many different ways are there
01:45 to eat a slice of pizza, you ask?
01:47 Well, at least one more than how most of us
01:49 have been doing it all our lives.
01:50 And it goes like this.
01:51 Cut the crust off your pizza slice,
01:53 place it lengthwise in the center of the remaining triangle
01:56 and fold said triangle over the slice
01:58 like a crusty pig in a saucy blanket.
02:00 Now you have pizza and crust in every bite.
02:03 Someone should tell Macaulay Culkin about this technique.
02:06 - My name is Macaulay Culkin, and I just finished pizza.
02:12 - How to wash your hands.
02:14 Get some soap, lather up, rub hands together,
02:16 rinse and dry.
02:18 Wrong.
02:19 According to the World Health Organization,
02:21 the proper way to wash one's hands is an 11-step process
02:24 involving a multitude of rubbing hand positions
02:27 and rotational techniques, and requires 40 to 60 seconds.
02:32 - Your hands are now clean and safe.
02:34 - Instead of sitting there and blowing on your nails

02:46 and you ask them for their phone number.
02:48 But the question is, did they give you their real number
02:50 or a fake one?
02:51 - I don't think this number's right.
02:53 - Well, rather than looking suspicious
02:58 and calling it immediately,
03:00 just calmly read it back to them and change one number.
03:03 If they correct the mistake,
03:04 it's probably their real number.
03:06 Everyone knows that the graham crackers
03:08 are the worst part of s'mores.
03:10 So forget about them and grab an Oreo instead.
03:12 Now twist it open, put a marshmallow and a piece of chocolate
03:15 between the two cookies,
03:16 and after a few seconds in the microwave or oven,
03:18 you will have the s'mores you never knew you always wanted.
03:22 - And then top the other piece of the Oreo right on top.
03:25 And then you have to enjoy it nice and warm.
03:28 - Wanna listen to music on your phone
03:29 but don't have a Bluetooth speaker on hand?
03:31 Well, how about an empty Pringles can?
03:33 Just put your phone in the can
03:35 and enjoy the sound amplification it provides.
03:38 You can even take it a step further
03:39 and put a phone-sized slit into the middle of the can

03:43 Is there any problem that wine can't solve?
03:46 We can't think of any.
03:47 In fact, wine is even good for wine stains.
03:50 You see, should you happen to spill
03:52 some of that delicious red wine on your carpet,
03:54 just go and grab a bottle of white.
03:56 White wine neutralizes red wine pigmentation

04:02 Watermelon slices are fine,
04:04 but have you ever tried cutting your watermelon into spears?
04:07 Just cut the watermelon in half,
04:08 place one half face down,
04:10 and slice it across in one direction and then the other.
04:13 It takes a few extra cuts,
04:14 but you've got to admit it's super cool
04:16 and a fun way to present it and eat it,
04:18 especially at parties.
04:20 Can't remember someone's name?

04:35 - I think it's Swarley from Barney.

05:05 Have you ever wondered why baby onesies
05:06 have those flaps on the shoulders?
05:08 No, it isn't an ode to '80s fashion
05:10 and the decades love for shoulder pads.
05:12 The flaps are there in order to allow
05:14 for the onesie to be removed downwards towards the feet
05:17 rather than up and over the child's head,
05:19 which comes in very handy when things get,
05:21 shall we say, messy down there.
05:23 - No more lifting over the head and a crying baby
05:25 'cause they don't like it.
05:26 Just roll it down over the arms,
05:29 and it's the full width of the baby's body.
05:30 I mean, it's so simple.
05:31 - We're all for reusable straws.
05:33 They're a great way to help reduce
05:34 the waste of plastic straws, which is good for our planet.
05:37 But do you know how to clean them?
05:39 It seems obvious,
05:40 and we're wondering why we didn't think of it before now,
05:42 but pipe cleaners are the perfect tool for the job.
05:45 You know that drawer under your oven,
05:47 the one we all use to store random sheet pans,
05:50 pots, and the like?
05:51 Well, turns out that drawer might have a purpose
05:53 that has nothing to do
05:54 with providing extra kitchen storage.
05:56 Check your oven's manual because for many,
05:59 that drawer is called the warming drawer,
06:01 and you can use it to keep food warm
06:03 while you finish cooking the rest of the meal.
06:05 For some ovens, it's actually a broiler drawer,
06:08 and for others, well, it really just is for storage.
06:12 Do you have someone in your life who's OCD
06:13 about constantly straightening out picture frames
06:15 hanging on the wall?
06:16 Maybe it's even you.
06:18 Well, whoever it is,
06:19 you'll wanna get them some poster tack,
06:21 which they can use on the corners of the frames
06:23 to keep them from moving.
06:24 Pretty smart, right?
06:25 It's always a good idea to lock your valuables in a locker
06:28 when you go to the gym,
06:29 but then the question becomes, what do you do with the key?
06:32 We don't all have pockets in our workout clothes,
06:34 but we do all wear shoes, right?
06:36 So just tie the key to your shoelace.
06:38 Or you could also opt for a combination lock
06:41 and skip the key thing altogether.
06:43 The sweeper attachment for our vacuum cleaner
06:46 is very useful, but as many of you probably know,
06:49 it also gets stuck up with dust bunnies and lint
06:51 and other such dirt.
06:53 If only you had a vacuum to clean the vacuum, right?
06:55 Well, you do.
06:57 Use the tube's sans attachments
06:59 to suck the other attachments clean.
07:01 Those little mini Dixie cup-like containers
07:03 fast food joints provide for us to fill with ketchup
07:05 are so small, we often need at least two
07:08 just to have enough dipping material for our French fries.
07:10 But did you know that those containers
07:12 were actually expandable?
07:14 Well, if you gently pull apart every second or third pleat,
07:17 you can actually make one container big enough
07:19 to hold two containers worth of ketchup.
07:21 - Look what he's doing!
07:23 - Then you can fit a lot more ketchup in there.
07:26 - Bobby pins aren't just good for picking locks.
07:28 Some people actually use them in their hair.
07:31 And you know how a bobby pin has a straight side
07:33 and a wavy side?
07:34 Well, if you wanna get the best hold from a bobby pin,
07:37 you'll wanna put it in your hair with that wavy side down.
07:40 - So you don't open it up,
07:42 especially not with your teeth, ladies.
07:44 - Especially not with your teeth.
07:45 - Like I do.
07:47 - As for picking locks, we can't help you there.
07:49 Making spaghetti is one of the easiest things
07:52 to do in the kitchen.
07:53 However, making the right amount of spaghetti
07:55 is a source of much anxiety for many of us home chefs,
07:59 but not anymore.
08:00 You see that hole in the middle of your spaghetti spoon?
08:02 That hole provides the measurement
08:04 for a single serving of pasta.
08:06 Just repeat for the number of diners and voila.
08:08 - This is so you know, proportion,
08:11 how much you should be serving.
08:12 - And Hathaway fans will probably already know
08:15 this genius move.
08:16 - Now I have stopped parties before,
08:17 but never for a good reason.
08:19 - The rest out there who've never broken off
08:21 the bottom of a cupcake, flipped it onto the icing
08:23 and eaten the dessert like a sandwich, now you know too.
08:27 Dangerously cheesy.
08:28 The reason we both love and hate Cheetos.
08:31 We love them for the taste, but hate the orange fingers.
08:35 And by association, orange fingerprints
08:37 on everything we touch before we wash our hands.
08:40 - Psst, Bullseye, get it out.
08:41 Stop it, psst, stop it, Bullseye, stop it, stop it.
08:44 - But what if we told you there was a way
08:46 to enjoy all that dangerously cheesy taste
08:48 without the orange fingers?
08:50 We have one word for you, chopsticks.
08:53 - You know, I'm a sophisticated gentleman,
08:55 so I didn't wanna get the powder on my fingers.
08:57 - It's a habit of many sushi eaters
08:59 to lay a thin slice of ginger
09:00 atop a piece of yummy sushi before devouring it.
09:03 However, that isn't why the ginger is there.
09:06 Rather than eat it with your sushi,
09:08 the ginger is meant to be eaten
09:09 between servings as a palate cleanser.
09:11 Ever tried to fill a large bucket in a sink
09:14 that's too small to hold said bucket?
09:16 Doing so usually requires angling the bucket,
09:18 moving the faucet, spilling water on the floor,
09:21 and not even filling it more than about halfway.
09:23 Did you ever consider using a dustpan as a funnel
09:25 to create a waterfall effect into the bucket?
09:28 Well, you should.
09:29 - Easy peasy.
09:30 - We all scream for ice cream sometimes,
09:32 but what makes us scream even louder
09:34 is when that craving hits and we open the container
09:37 to find the ice cream is rock hard
09:38 and we end up bending multiple metal spoons
09:41 in the extraction process.
09:42 A nifty trick that's been reported to remedy this
09:45 is to place the container in a freezer Ziploc bag.
09:48 This is supposed to keep the ice cream
09:50 at an easily scoopable consistency
09:52 and turn all your screams of frustration
09:54 into screams of joy.
09:56 There is nothing worse than a warm beer.
09:58 - Hey, Judy, two more beers?
10:00 - You got it.
10:02 - Two beers, hot or cold?
10:04 - Well, cold.
10:05 - Come on, man.
10:06 - Okay, there are worse things, but it still sucks.
10:09 Sure, you can put the bottles in the fridge and wait.
10:11 Just wrap a wet paper towel around the bottle
10:13 before you stick it in the fridge,
10:14 and in 15 minutes, treat yourself to a nice cold beer.
10:18 Who wants to put their mouth on the rim of a dirty can?
10:21 Not us.
10:22 But using a straw can be annoying
10:24 with it floating and bobbing around all over.
10:27 Thankfully, cans come with their own built-in straw holder,
10:30 the tab.
10:31 Just spin it around and slide the straw through the hole
10:34 for a secure drinking experience.
10:36 We look to science to help us in a lot of ways,
10:38 but we never thought we needed help holding a hamburger,
10:41 until now.
10:42 According to experts in fluid mechanics,
10:44 engineering, and dentistry
10:46 who appeared on the Japanese TV show "Honmadeka,"
10:48 the key to holding a burger is your pinkies.
10:51 Rather than grab it with just the thumb underneath,
10:53 you'll want to throw the little fingers under there also,
10:56 thus creating a more balanced support
10:58 for the bunned structure.
10:59 These days, many juices and milks
11:01 come in those rectangle containers with the caps.
11:04 And while our natural inclination
11:06 is to pour the liquid with the cap side closest to the cup,
11:09 next time, try pouring with the cap side up,
11:11 and notice how it's a much smoother and cleaner process.
11:15 One of the best things about having pizza for dinner
11:17 is eating leftover pizza for breakfast the next morning.
11:19 And while many of us are very happy eating it cold,
11:22 we understand there are some of you
11:24 who like to reheat your za.
11:26 That's fine, just don't do it in the microwave.
11:28 For best results, including crispy crust
11:30 and perfectly melted cheese, do it in a frying pan.
11:34 - Oh, that looks good. - Yeah, that looks good.
11:36 - Okay, that's fantastic. - It's gonna be really hot.
11:38 - The Monopoly game has been around since the 1930s,
11:41 and most of us have played it at least once.
11:44 And yet there are no doubt a couple of official game rules
11:47 that many of us never knew about.
11:49 Did you know that if you land on an unowned property
11:52 and you don't buy it,
11:53 the bank must auction it off to the highest bidder?
11:55 How about the rule that says
11:56 if there aren't any houses or hotels left
11:58 that you can't buy anymore?
12:00 And maybe the most shocking one of all,
12:02 free parking is just a free space.
12:05 There are never any monetary or property awards
12:08 associated with landing on it.
12:09 - The Monopoly moments families love,
12:12 the competition they can't live without.
12:15 - Sure, we're all impressed with how well Sheldon Cooper
12:18 and people that work at The Gap can fold shirts,
12:20 but did you know there's a really simple technique
12:22 that will have you folding a shirt in just a few seconds?
12:24 We could try and explain it to you,
12:26 but instead just watch the video.
12:29 - And finally, use the table
12:30 to fold the shirt back on itself.
12:32 - A can opener.
12:33 Now, we bet you're thinking,
12:35 how could I possibly be using a can opener wrong?
12:38 How many different ways are there to use one?
12:40 Well, more than one it turns out.
12:42 And the trick here is the placement of the opener.
12:45 Rather than placing it sideways,
12:46 use it parallel to the top of the can.
12:49 It's easy, it leaves a nice clean edge around the can
12:51 and a smoother, less dangerous edge
12:53 on the removed top as well.
12:55 You might think you're doing a nice thing
12:57 when you go down to the pond
12:59 and throw bread in the water for the ducks,
13:01 but the truth is you might actually be doing
13:03 more harm than good.
13:04 You see, bread isn't a healthy food for ducks.
13:07 It has pretty much no nutritional value
13:10 and all it does is fill them up,
13:12 which could lead to them not eating the foods
13:14 they do need to maintain their health.
13:17 The great debate has finally been resolved once and for all.
13:21 Based on the 1891 patent,
13:23 the toilet paper should be hanging
13:24 with the roll facing out.
13:27 - Please go on Facebook immediately
13:29 and decide which is the proper way,
13:31 under or over.
13:34 - Do you ever find yourself
13:35 having to cut multiple cherry tomatoes?
13:37 Well, rather than slicing each individual cherry tomato
13:40 in half one by one,
13:41 why not save some time
13:43 and slice through a bunch of them all at once?
13:45 Just place them in between two plastic lids,
13:47 hold the top lid securely,
13:49 and run a knife through the lot of them.
13:51 - And that's the easiest way to cut tomatoes
13:53 and prep them in half.
13:54 - How to easily remove stickers
13:56 and things like labels on boxes?
13:58 Grab a hairdryer, put it on high,
14:00 and blow dry the sticker at close range
14:02 to loosen it up and weaken the glue.
14:04 - Heat the sticker up until it's good and hot
14:06 and then get your fingernail underneath it.
14:07 It should completely release.
14:08 Watch this.
14:09 - Now you can just peel it off in one clean piece.
14:11 Maybe two.
14:13 One of the most frustrating packaging problems
14:15 we all face are blister packs.
14:17 Sure, they keep the items inside them secure,
14:20 but they make getting said items out
14:21 a stressful battle between our scissors
14:24 and the pack itself.
14:25 But what if we told you to relax,
14:27 put down the scissors, and grab your can opener?
14:29 - But before you start dragging out the tools,
14:31 look in a drawer and see if you've got
14:33 an old rotary can opener.
14:35 - Yup, a can opener is the easy,
14:37 stressless blister pack solution you've been waiting for.
14:41 When it comes to peeling a kiwi,
14:43 there are probably many different ways to go about it.
14:45 However, one way you probably haven't tried is this.
14:49 Cut off both ends and use a spoon
14:51 to gently and easily separate the fruit
14:53 from the rest of the surrounding skin.
14:55 Now you can pull out the whole de-skinned fruit
14:57 in one clean piece.
14:59 Everyone has their own little trick for opening tight lids,
15:02 but let's be honest, most of them do not work.
15:04 And how many of us have broken a glass jar,
15:07 banging it against the counter,
15:08 thinking that would loosen it?
15:09 Well, forget about all that tapping
15:11 and go grab a rubber band.
15:12 Place it around the lid and use the extra grip
15:15 to twist it open.
15:16 Ever been enjoying your Starbucks drink
15:18 and wished you had a coaster to put it on?
15:19 Well, to paraphrase Glinda the Good Witch,
15:22 you had a coaster all along.
15:24 The lids on their drinks are designed
15:26 to work as coasters as well.
15:27 First off, everyone should be flossing their teeth.
15:30 Second, besides mouth maintenance,
15:32 dental floss can also serve as the perfect tool
15:34 for cutting soft cheeses.
15:36 - One easy way is to wrap dental floss
15:39 around the goat cheese and then simply pull on either end
15:43 and it slices it perfectly.
15:46 - To dunk or not to dunk your Oreo cookie?
15:48 That is the question.
15:50 Now, we aren't taking sides on that argument
15:52 one way or the other,
15:53 but we will tell you that if you are a dunker,
15:55 then you have to try this.
15:57 Take a fork, stick it into the cream filling,
15:59 and now you can dunk it right in the milk
16:01 as deep as you want without getting your dirty fingers
16:04 in the milk along with it.
16:05 (milk sloshing)
16:08 Aluminum foil and plastic wrap are very useful items
16:12 many of us use regularly.
16:14 But pulling pieces of the stuff off of the rolls,
16:17 well, that's a task they probably have people doing
16:19 in the third circle of hell.
16:21 Thankfully, it doesn't have to be a hellish experience
16:23 for you anymore.
16:24 And that's all because of those little push flaps
16:26 on the sides that say, "Press ends to lock roll."
16:29 So, press them.
16:30 - There are little lock tabs,
16:31 which you can push in to lock the roll in place.
16:35 - Now, we know what the hole in the spaghetti spoon is for.
16:38 Let's take a look at the hole in the pot handle.
16:40 That one is there to be used as a simple
16:42 and convenient place to hold the spoon you're cooking with.
16:45 Not that you ever want just one Tic Tac,
16:47 but if you did, the plastic container is actually designed
16:50 to make that possible.
16:51 Flip it over, lay it on its side,
16:53 and then simply open the lid.
16:55 There should be one lonely Tic Tac sitting there.
16:58 - Only one and a half calories,
17:00 and just the right amount of mint,
17:01 so you can breathe friendly.
