00:00 When somebody gives you the job, "Make me the best you can and these are the rules,"
00:05 you really have to try and push it to the edge of these rules.
00:09 We've got this idea for a new bike for the Olympics.
00:15 It looks different than all the bikes you've seen in the last ten years.
00:18 This blows them straight out of the water.
00:20 The Hope bike, the HPT, is significantly faster.
00:24 The Hope bike is actually very light.
00:25 It's the steppest bike I've ever ridden and it's quick as well.
00:28 Olympic athletes invest everything in pushing the limits of human ability.
00:33 The same effort is applied to developing the bike tech used by these riders.
00:38 Team GB have earned a reputation for riding some of the most cutting-edge bikes in the world.
00:48 But as the UCI regulations changed, suddenly every bike the British Cycling was riding was illegal.
00:54 How could we go on and make a better bike than what we had before?
00:58 We needed a manufacturer who could make the bike to a very high standard.
01:04 Anything cycling, and we want to be involved in it, that's the thing.
01:07 We were making mountain bikes before. Can we make a bike like this?
01:12 Well, where are we going?
01:13 It looks a bit chaotic.
01:15 I can barely hear myself think.
01:17 So the first few frames, there's always a bit of head scratching.
01:20 We said, "Just give us a shot. We'll have a go at it and we'll make something."
01:23 And we knew it was not what they wanted.
01:25 Oh, that's pretty out there.
01:26 It was completely wrong shape.
01:28 Crikey, I've got a lot to learn here as well.
01:31 I thought, "We need a bit more help here."
01:33 We were again a non-bike company coming to the party.
01:37 We came to a little bit of an altercation towards the actual launch of the bike.
01:41 This wasn't about taking over in any way, shape or form.
01:45 I hope that all this work will lead to medals at the Olympics.
01:50 I think this is going to be the toughest Olympics in 16, 17 years.
01:55 This is war.
