00:09 after a leopard was seen roaming the area and caught in CCTV footage.
00:14 The leopard was spotted at Centra Greens Society on Pahowal Road on Thursday night.
00:20 The presence of the wild animal was first noted by a resident, prompting immediate alarm
00:25 within the community.
00:27 The incident was captured on society cameras, intensifying the apprehension among the residents
00:31 who heartily secured themselves indoors.
00:34 The news of the leopard's presence spread rapidly, triggering a response from the local
00:38 authorities.
00:39 The Sadar Police swiftly arrived at the scene and took action to contain the situation,
00:43 sealing off the area to prevent any potential threat to residents.
00:46 SHO Gurpreet Singh of Sadar Police Station assured that although the leopard has reportedly
00:51 left the society, a thorough inspection of the vicinity is ongoing to ensure the safety
00:56 of the residents.
00:57 Forest officials restricted movement in the nearby areas and advised residents to remain
01:01 alert.
01:02 Officials also prepared alternative strategies for capturing the leopard.
01:06 The CCTV footage accessed by the officials showed the leopard walking late at night in
01:11 the parking basement.
01:12 Pritpal Singh, Forest and Wildlife Officer, Ludhiana Range, said that after the society's
01:17 management alerted the district administration, a team inspected the area but the leopard
01:22 was yet to be traced.
01:23 "We are putting up cages and checking around, but till then we request society residents
01:28 to stay inside their homes and move out only if there is any emergency," said the officer.
01:34 Usually when it starts snowing in upper hilly areas in the northern region, animals such
01:37 as leopards, sambhar, deer, etc. start moving towards the plains.
01:42 Their movement is usually in the night, so we would need at least two days to locate
01:46 it again.
01:47 Leopards easily cover 100-200 km in the night, so it is also possible that it has moved out
01:52 by now but residents should be cautious," he said.
01:55 Residents can contact 95010 26684 if they spot a leopard.
