Visite éclair de Borne à Mayotte, archipel dans l'urgence

  • last year

00:00 Elisabeth Born arrived in Mayotte on Friday with several announcements on water, housing and health for this poorest department of France,
00:08 faced with serious drought, migratory pressure from neighboring comorbies and growing insecurity.
00:14 Welcomed by traditional fields and flower necklaces at Petite Terre airport,
00:19 the head of the government, accompanied by two ministers, Aurélien Rousseau, Health, and Philippe Vigier,
00:25 Foreign Minister, mentioned the shortage of water, to which residents have access only one day out of three.
00:30 It is this crisis that motivated this departure.
00:34 But this archipelago of the Indian Ocean of 310,000 inhabitants,
00:37 where Marine Le Pen has collected nearly 60% of the surplus at the last presidential election,
00:42 has also been shaken for several weeks by clashes between villages, which led to the sending of reinforcements to the gendarmerie.
00:49 The Minister of the Interior will be in Nice and Menton on the same day to talk about irregular immigration.
00:55 He came to the archipelago in June to defend the controversial police operation or the fight against unsanitary housing,
01:02 slums, crime and illegal immigration.
01:06 A prison.
01:08 After visiting a desalination plant that must be enlarged, the Prime Minister attended a bottle water distribution.
01:15 A measure that, like the charge of invoices or aid to companies, will continue as long as necessary.
01:23 You are welcome in Mayotte but there is a May.
01:26 Before we lived freely now we are in prison with insecurity, called in by a woman, local elected.
01:33 Liberty = what for us?
01:36 The prison.
01:37 Equality = what for us?
01:40 The killing unfortunately.
01:41 Fraternity = what for us?
01:44 Thirst = has it developed?
01:47 We can see that the crisis of water is added to all the crises that exist, said Mrs. Born.
01:53 The archipelago has been facing its worst drought since 1997, aggravated by a lack of infrastructure and investment.
02:00 On insecurity, it is sure that it is not possible.
02:04 The violence you are experiencing is not normal, recognized the Prime Minister.
02:09 The fight against irregular immigration and insecurity are absolute priorities in Mayotte, explains Matignon.
02:17 However, the government's policy towards Mayotte must also carry a "together" vision for its development in terms of schools, health and housing.
02:26 Call for air.
02:28 Elisabeth Born will then visit a slum that is to be dismantled in Congo, where she will announce the creation of a national interest operation on three municipalities to help the relocation of its inhabitants.
02:39 Half of the population does not have French nationality, according to INSEE, even if a third of foreigners are born on the island.
02:48 And about 30% of the housing is unsanitary housing.
02:52 The results are to be expected.
02:54 Operations against slums have destroyed about 700 informal housing, or "cases", this year, against 1,600 in 2021.
03:04 The number of illegal immigrants expelled has fallen, about 22,000 since the beginning of the year, against 25,000 in 2022.
03:12 At the departmental council, Elisabeth Born will sign a financial convention by which the state will bring €100 million in 2024 to early childhood, whose expenses explode with demographic growth.
03:25 She will also visit the only hospital in Mayotte, which cruelly lacks nurses, to announce its expansion and new training offers to attract nurses.
03:35 On security, Elisabeth Born will announce in particular a strengthening of the means of the Chicandra plan to fight against irregular immigration.
03:43 It remains to be seen whether these measures will meet the expectations of the inhabitants.
03:48 The independent MP Yoestel Yousoufa, who wants to restrict the right to the ground, which the right wants to suppress on the island,
03:55 is warning against a "compassionate" speech that would be badly received given the "volatility" of the situation.
04:02 The population is overwhelmed by the slowness, the apparent impotence of the law.
