Transcript
00:00 Children and young people and older Australians really enjoy being together.
00:06 They enjoy the company of each other and they enjoy the sharing of knowledge and interests
00:11 and that mutual sharing really has benefits for both the generations.
00:16 Hi, I'm Associate Professor Jennifer Cartmill from Griffith University and my research expertise
00:27 is in outside school hours services and intergenerational practice.
00:32 Intergenerational practice is an emerging area that has reciprocal benefits for children
00:36 and young people and older Australians.
00:40 We're delighted to be partnering with their care on an initiative called Generation Connection.
00:45 By participating in the Generation Connection holiday programs, children will connect with
00:51 the older people in their community.
00:53 With the middle childhood period, there's a beautiful transfer of knowledge, particularly
00:57 around the use of digital technology.
01:00 We often find examples of children sharing with older people how to use digital technology
01:07 while older Australians are sharing with the children what they used to use prior to the
01:13 use of digital technology.
01:16 I can't wait for this program to start so that we can showcase the benefits of Generation
01:21 Connection.
01:22 It's really commendable that their care has taken this initiative to provide the opportunity
01:28 for children and young people and older Australians to come together.
