00:02 - So at least some, I would say positive news for Penn
00:07 who shifted over their sports book from Barstool to ESPN Bet
00:11 clearly the branding part of this is working.
00:15 ESPN is seeing a ton of downloads for their new sports book
00:18 and I wonder if what we've seen over the past month
00:23 with this being brand new, if this is a quick boost, Sam,
00:28 or if this is what the future will look like
00:31 and maybe ESPN Bet and Penn Gaming getting together,
00:34 doing this is actually gonna push them into a position
00:37 which they really want it to be.
00:39 - Yeah, ESPN Bet is definitely off to a hot start
00:44 now surpassing Barstool in 2022 downloads
00:48 just in the first few weeks of launch.
00:50 You know, they went live November 14th in 17 States,
00:54 2 million downloads to date,
00:55 which is right behind DraftKings and FanDuel
00:57 for the entire NFL season.
00:59 That's just in a two week span versus a 13 week span
01:02 for those other companies.
01:03 So very impressive it's getting downloaded,
01:05 but it would be probably a bigger story
01:07 if this wasn't the case
01:08 because you've never seen a sports book
01:10 launch in so many States at once.
01:12 Obviously they're getting the old Barstool customers
01:15 to re-download the app and you can get the new $200 bonus
01:19 if you download it.
01:20 So you're seeing a ton of that.
01:22 Obviously the real story is gonna be whether or not
01:24 long-term Barstool or BetPen and ESPN Bet
01:28 can get people to stay on the app and continue to use it.
01:32 So, you know, it's gonna be something that develops
01:34 over the course of time,
01:35 but I would say it is pretty important to note
01:37 how successful it's been so far relative to Barstool.
01:41 A lot of that probably comes from the new technology.
01:44 Barstool was on the old Canby Sportsbook technology,
01:47 which is sort of a platform that a lot of books used
01:52 and have now moved on from in favor of their own
01:54 in-house technology.
01:55 And you see that's paying off for companies like DraftKings,
01:58 companies like FanDuel,
02:00 and then Fanatics now after it acquired PointsBet.
02:02 So this is kind of the start of that for Pen
02:05 using the technology they got from the score.
02:07 And then so far, you know,
02:09 the stock market is kind of iffy on whether or not
02:13 they think will be long-term success.
02:15 Pen has been about at the same price
02:17 since ESPN Bet launched.
02:18 So I think it's pretty noteworthy that, you know,
02:21 ESPN Bet is doing great in downloads.
02:23 It's like everyone's downloading it.
02:24 It's doing very well so far,
02:26 but the stock market is still hesitant.
02:27 And that tells a real story that they want to see long-term,
02:30 you know, are there more integrations with ESPN talent?
02:33 Are there more things you can do on the app
02:35 or the technology get better?
02:37 That kind of thing, which I think Pen is still working on.
02:39 And so it's definitely the long-term game here,
02:42 but so far so good based on the benchmarks
02:44 we have available.
