00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 10 Most Difficult
00:10 Indie Games to Play.
00:19 Number 10 - Hollow Knight
00:28 Hollow Knight can be a bit frustrating for new players.
00:31 Be honest, we were all struggling when the game first came out.
00:34 It always felt like you needed to invade beyond the enemy's personal space just to land a
00:38 hit with your tiny pick.
00:39 Of course, you will power up your abilities more and more as you explore the dismal and
00:43 somewhat adorable bug world.
00:45 However, boss fights are going to crank things up to 11 and beyond.
00:57 You will need to hone in your skills quickly if you want to get through all of Hollow Knight
01:01 and we all know Silksong is going to take everything several steps further.
01:12 Number 9 - Fury
01:21 The thing about Fury is that you have a top-down hack and slash that features elements of a
01:25 bullet hell game.
01:26 Oh, and the game is one massive boss gauntlet.
01:30 Your biggest challenge will be keeping your health in check.
01:32 The only way to heal is paring bullets, meaning your survival depends entirely on how good
01:36 your timing is.
01:46 As expected, this is a lot easier said than done for some players.
01:50 Even though the game only features 10 levels, be prepared to die a handful of times and
01:54 many more if you want to see every ending.
02:06 Number 8 - Super Meat Boy
02:16 When looking for the poster child of hard indie games, you cannot go wrong with Super
02:19 Meat Boy.
02:20 Though it boasts a cute appearance, this game will push the limits of your thyroid.
02:24 Meat Boy is a fast little bugger and for some, his diminutive stature can make it tough to
02:29 avoid hazards.
02:37 What's more stressful is the sheer scope of the game.
02:39 You will need to trek across more than 300 levels, each proving to be more stressful
02:44 than the last.
02:45 Sure, you can do the bare minimum to get to the next chapter, but if you truly want to
02:49 conquer the game, show us what you got.
02:57 Number 7 - Cuphead
03:04 We promised this list isn't loaded with difficult platformers.
03:08 We've already covered that kind of list anyway.
03:10 However, Cuphead is definitely worthy of being here.
03:13 Though every level only lasts a couple of minutes, those minutes can feel like an eternity.
03:23 Every boss has a handful of phases to endure, and their patterns can change so drastically
03:27 that you will suddenly have to change your approach.
03:37 Even with the dash ability and meaty selection of abilities to swap between, Cuphead's gallery
03:41 of villains will put your platforming and shooting skills to the ultimate test.
03:45 And good luck if you try to go for expert versions of the bosses.
03:54 Number 6 - Hotline Miami
04:03 In all honesty, Hotline Miami is one of those games that will make or break you.
04:07 One person might see this game as a riveting challenge that demands you memorize enemy
04:11 placement and shoot with great accuracy.
04:13 Another might describe Hotline Miami as borderline unfair with its one-hit kills, incessant need
04:18 for perfect performance, and how enemies can kill you from off-screen.
04:29 No matter which way you look at it, Hotline Miami can be incredibly intense with its challenges.
04:33 So it is very much a "play at your own risk" kind of game.
04:45 Number 5 - Celeste
04:54 It's the last platformer on the list, we promise.
04:57 Celeste sees you climbing a mountain as a young woman battles her own mental struggles.
05:01 Though the main story itself is arduous at times, that isn't the biggest hurdle you'll
05:05 face.
05:06 If you want to fully complete the game, you will need to go for every strawberry in every
05:10 level.
05:11 Many of these require super precise movements and quick reflexes.
05:21 Plus you have the Farewell expansion that adds all sorts of new mechanics and features.
05:26 Celeste, beautiful name, brutal game.
05:34 Number 4 - The Witness
05:42 Whereas the other games we've seen so far are gunning for fast reaction and a deep understanding
05:46 of the mechanics, The Witness opts for a mental challenge, for better or worse.
05:51 Throughout this lengthy game, you will engage with several different puzzles without any
05:54 instructions on what to do, where to go, or if there's even an order to the different
05:59 collections of puzzles you need to solve.
06:09 You basically have to mess around with things and hope that something clicks in your brain.
06:13 Of course, you can always just look up a guide for all of the solutions, but the lack of
06:17 any direction here makes The Witness incredibly difficult.
06:27 Number 3 - Frostpunk
06:36 If you love management games like Cities Skylines, but want something more grueling for whatever
06:41 reason, have you tried Frostpunk?
06:43 This is, indeed, the toughest management game we've ever played.
06:53 There will be many times where resources are frustratingly scarce, and the most unexpected
06:57 environmental events can result in catastrophe.
06:59 On top of that, you will also have to govern your society and enforce laws that could potentially
07:04 turn your people against you or even doom the whole civilization.
07:08 In other words, you're a politician in a frozen apocalypse, a position no one would ever want
07:12 to be in.
07:20 Number 2 - Darkest Dungeon
07:33 If there was one word we could use to describe Darkest Dungeon, it would be "oppressive."
07:38 Darkest Dungeon is a game that will feel like it is actively playing against you in every
07:42 way.
07:43 Even the most minute things, like low light and dark caves, can inflict stress on party
07:47 members as if the monsters didn't spam stress-infliction moves enough.
07:51 And should a party member reach maximum stress, they can either gain a blessing or an affliction.
08:03 Nine times out of ten, it's an affliction and they can be costly to get rid of.
08:07 If it's your first time, we recommend playing on the easiest difficulty for this one.

08:35 Number 1 - Into The Breach
08:45 In case you have never played this gem from the makers of FTL Faster Than Light, which
08:49 is also a notoriously hard game, well, you're kind of missing out.
08:53 Into the Breach is a turn-based strategy game where you must use three units to exterminate
08:57 an invading alien race.
08:59 Each unit can move only once and attack once each turn, meaning you will have to carefully
09:03 think about each move you make and the order in which you perform your actions.
09:14 One reckless decision can decimate a city, thus damaging your power and/or units.
09:19 Whether you're defending an object or just trying to survive the onslaught, Into the
09:22 Breach will be the most challenging indie game you have ever played.
