00:00 Hi, I'm Mikayla Schifrin,
00:01 current world record holder in alpine ski racing,
00:04 and these are my 10 essentials.
00:07 [upbeat music]
00:09 My first essential item are my sneakers,
00:19 my Adidas Superstars.
00:21 It's my daily staple in life.
00:23 They're like the original cool sneaker.
00:26 That's the way I see it.
00:27 I mean, kids in school always had them,
00:29 and I was always like, "I want Superstars,
00:31 I want Superstars."
00:32 When I got my first pair, I was so excited.
00:35 So now I have a closet that's completely full of them.
00:39 It's a perfect everything shoe.
00:40 [upbeat music]
00:43 My next essential is my pasta.
00:49 Gorilla is a partner that I started working with
00:52 I think 11 years ago now.
00:54 So it's been a wonderful partnership for many years.
00:59 I am an extreme pasta fanatic.
01:03 It's a near everyday staple in my life.
01:06 And I also have my trusty cap,
01:09 which I wear when I'm doing things
01:12 or if I have a bad hair day.
01:13 A sponsor, like a head sponsor,
01:15 that's something that can give you a lot of confidence
01:17 as an athlete because everybody's looking
01:19 for their one main title sponsor
01:21 that is really the biggest supporter they have.
01:23 And that came early for me.
01:26 I'm very thankful for it.
01:27 And certainly thankful that it's pasta
01:30 because I love pasta.
01:32 Thank you, I've been waiting for that.
01:39 Pass them around.
01:41 Unfortunately, not a partner.
01:42 Haribo Gold Bears are one of my absolute favorite things
01:47 in existence.
01:48 The flavor, the taste, the gumminess is just,
01:52 it's absolutely perfect.
01:54 I can toss them to people.
01:55 Here, Dossie, catch.
01:57 Oh my God.
01:58 They're better than anything.
02:01 Have you ever had them when you put them in the freezer?
02:04 Oh.
02:05 My trusty Land Rover.
02:09 Right now I have a Sport, which is gorgeous, and red.
02:13 I need some serious space and I get that with Land Rover.
02:18 It's comfortable, the driving experience is great.
02:20 It has the space I need.
02:22 It carries all the equipment.
02:23 And my personal items as well.
02:27 Couple years ago I had one.
02:28 I had one edition in Europe that had massage chair
02:33 in the front seats.
02:34 And it was like, turn on the seat heater and the massage
02:37 and then drive nine hours and like fully recovered
02:41 and ready to go for the next race
02:42 by the time we get to where we're going.
02:48 So my next item is my locket necklace that my brother
02:53 and sister-in-law got me for Christmas this winter.
02:57 They gave it to me right after I had actually lost
03:01 my dad's ring.
03:02 And it has pictures of my dad in it.
03:04 And it says, "Always with you, love, dad."
03:08 I'm not really good taking off jewelry,
03:10 like when I shower or swim or things like that.
03:13 But this one I am pretty good about trying to take good
03:16 care of it and not get it too wet.
03:18 So my next essential is my watch.
03:26 My beautiful Longines.
03:29 I love watches with a leather strap.
03:31 And I don't always wear them because I do shower
03:34 and forget to take it off.
03:35 And I swim and I forget to take it off.
03:37 I think it's something about the look is so cool.
03:41 Like it's elegant, but it's still really cool.
03:43 When I'm racing, I normally go with one of the
03:46 Conquest series, Conquest Classic is my go-to.
03:49 But I tend to switch them out as well.
03:51 I love watches.
03:52 I love accessorizing with them.
03:54 I have since I was probably nine.
03:56 They're elegant and classy and beautiful.
03:59 And they also have the ability to withstand time
04:03 and kind of a lot of, actually a lot of thrash
04:06 that I put them through with sport and everything that I do.
04:09 So yeah, that's been really fun.
04:11 [upbeat music]
04:14 My next essential is my trusty nail kit.
04:20 I just really started getting into doing my own nails.
04:23 Like I have a whole thing.
04:24 I have, it's not just nail polish, okay people.
04:29 I have the UV light.
04:30 I have my nail drill.
04:32 One of these guys is a builder gel.
04:35 So you can actually build like nail extensions.
04:40 And you take one of these things, stick it like this.
04:44 And then you take your builder gel
04:46 and you can literally paint on your nail.
04:49 And then you cure it and paint it on again
04:51 and cure it and then paint on another layer.
04:53 And I decided that in the two hours that I had to get ready
04:57 before the Time 100 gala, I wanted to do my nails.
05:01 And I didn't wanna just paint them a nice color.
05:03 I wanted to like build them out,
05:05 make them nice and long and pretty.
05:08 And it took me the entire two hours.
05:12 And then like 20 minutes after I finished,
05:15 one of them broke.
05:16 Throughout the evening, four more of my nails broke.
05:18 And I was walking around like this
05:20 so people couldn't see my nails.
05:23 I was like, oh my God, this is embarrassing.
05:25 This is a room of the most influential people.
05:27 And I'm, I have like, my nails are spazzing out.
05:32 I don't know what's happening.
05:34 Anyway, it's not really the most important problems
05:38 in the world that I'm solving with this nail kit,
05:40 but it is fun nonetheless.
05:43 My next essential is these little bracelets that I got
05:51 from a family friend and she makes them.
05:54 And it has a little evil eye thing there.
05:59 She actually took me wake surfing
06:01 and brought her daughter who's a big fan.
06:03 And they gave me the bracelet.
06:05 And I was like, I'm actually gonna wear this all the time
06:08 'cause I love it.
06:09 This is just something I never take off.
06:10 I can wear it when I'm skiing.
06:12 It doesn't bother me 'cause it's so thin in my gloves.
06:14 So I do think it has brought me some good luck
06:17 over the last year.
06:18 These are another essential item.
06:25 Mostly just sunglasses in general
06:28 are a must have in my daily life.
06:30 And these are just particularly cool.
06:34 They're kind of a new style that Oakley's come out with.
06:36 So pretty much my whole life and sport revolves
06:39 around me covering my face completely
06:41 with goggles or my helmet or my sunglasses.
06:46 We are out in the harsh weather a lot
06:49 and I gotta look stylish and I have to be able to see well.
06:52 And these are not them, but they're also really cool.
06:56 My signature shades, keep an eye out for those.
06:59 They're really cool.
07:00 They have a purple lens, bright purple, astonishing.
07:03 So now we have my wallet.
07:11 This was given to me by some of my friends
07:15 back when we had the celebration of life for my dad.
07:18 And they engraved JSS, his initials onto it.
07:21 And they were these little leather wallet, purse things.
07:25 We had the flash drive that filmed
07:27 his celebration of life in here.
07:29 And so they just, that was like the gift.
07:31 It was the packaging basically for the flash drive.
07:35 But I needed a wallet and I needed something
07:37 like perfect credit card size.
07:40 And I decided that's what I was gonna make this into.
07:45 And it just holds everything I need.
07:47 And it's straightforward and the zipper works amazing.
07:52 And it reminds me of my dad.
07:54 And I wrote love you most on there because I'm cheesy,
07:57 but it reminds me of him.
07:58 (gentle music)
