00:00 Questions from Jesse and Josiah.
00:02 Jesse, start with you.
00:03 How hard is it to play hard and not foul?
00:08 Great question.
00:11 Yeah, there's always a balance.
00:13 There's always trying to be aggressive
00:17 and then trying to make sure you don't get no contact that
00:24 can get a call.
00:26 I've been pretty good with it, I think, for a longer time.
00:30 And then today, yeah, got a couple of stupid ones.
00:35 One or two, and then when you get an unlucky call
00:39 or an actual foul, it adds up and it
00:43 takes away from your minutes and from the team.
00:45 So yeah, I'm frustrated with that for sure.
00:48 Could have done a lot better.
00:50 Jesse, I don't want you to say anything bad about the refs.
00:55 That would get you in trouble.
00:56 But out of the five, how many did you agree with?
01:02 Yeah, I mean, like I said, sometimes there's
01:08 a couple you don't agree with.
01:10 I haven't looked it back, so that can change things for sure.
01:14 And when you're on the court, it's frustrating.
01:17 But at the end of the day, there's
01:20 going to be times where it's like that.
01:22 And it's nobody's fault, really.
01:24 JoJo, you got a couple early ones too.
01:27 Just knowing the lineup and the depth you guys have,
01:29 do you guys have to play different?
01:30 I mean, is it conscious when you start a game?
01:34 Of course, you got to be cautious, but yeah,
01:36 it hurts having little depth in the roster right now,
01:38 picking up those fouls.
01:39 It hurt us a little bit, me and Jesse getting in foul trouble.
01:42 So yeah, that must definitely hurt.
01:46 Obviously, they were able to crush the offensive boards.
01:49 Both teams did well on the offensive glass.
01:52 When you're on defense, though, you're
01:54 trying to shove out, or you want to shove out, box guys out,
01:58 put them away.
01:58 That same thing coming into play keeping you
02:00 from doing that a little bit?
02:02 You're talking about the foul trouble?
02:04 Yeah, and trying to box out defensively?
02:07 Yeah, yeah, because exactly.
02:08 When they make it a physical game,
02:09 they try to force you into that.
02:12 So yeah, when they see, of course,
02:15 like I think me and Soriano both at three at some point,
02:20 I felt they made a lot more physical game at that point,
02:22 try to get boxed out or get offensive rebounds over you.
02:27 Because they know it is a little bit tougher.
02:30 I mean, of course, when you get a good position,
02:32 it doesn't matter whether they're going hard or not.
02:36 Because you got them boxed out.
02:38 But it's harder.
02:41 Everything is a little bit harder.
02:43 So teams can try to take advantage of that when one
02:46 or two players are in foul trouble.
02:50 If you play smart, you can always get out of it.
02:52 It didn't work out.
02:53 Yeah.
02:55 Other than SMU, you guys hadn't really
02:57 seen a team that was going to pressure you like these guys
03:00 did, I guess.
03:01 Even with them pressuring, you guys
03:07 shot 43 free throws, which says you probably
03:12 handled it pretty good.
03:14 Right, yeah.
03:14 I mean, I think one team, SMU, did a lot of pressing
03:19 during the game we had against them.
03:23 And I don't know if they took from that
03:24 or if they do this, like to do this every single game.
03:29 But it's definitely-- they try to speed it up a lot.
03:34 What we knew is that when they do press full court,
03:37 it's not really a press to get the steal.
03:41 It's more of a press to get you over half court with maybe
03:43 like 15 seconds on the clock when you set up your plays,
03:46 which is what this press was more like.
03:50 But at the end of the day, it's tough for the guards
03:53 to get it over when they do it right.
03:56 So yeah, it was something that we knew they were going to do.
04:00 But it's still tough for the guards.
04:02 And like you said, us getting to the line 43 times
04:04 and only making 31 free throws, that's
04:07 a lot of part of the game, too.
04:08 If we hit majority of those free throws, we win the game.
04:10 So we just got to lock in and make our free throws.
04:13 Too late, Collins.
04:15 It's tougher to shoot them when you're tired
04:17 at the end of the game.
04:19 I feel like we work hard enough to where
04:21 we can make our free throws regardless.
04:22 We just got to lock in.
04:24 Josiah, the final, I don't know, three, four minutes,
04:30 loose balls, offensive rebounds, seemed like all that stuff
04:35 was kind of going to St. John's.
04:36 How much of that was maybe talked about after the game?
04:40 And then how much of it was maybe
04:43 the difference in the game some of those plays?
04:46 Yeah, we got to come away with those loose balls.
04:48 And it just got to mean something to us.
04:49 We have to take it more personal.
04:51 And we're going to use it as fuel
04:52 to the fire for these next couple of games,
04:54 for the rest of the season, actually.
04:55 But we just got to have more of a dog mentality
04:59 when it comes to that.
05:00 One play where Kobe's trying to save it from going out of bounds.
05:05 And the ball kind of got ping-ponged around.
05:07 And they end up getting a layup.
05:08 Were you on the floor for--
05:11 Yeah, I was on the floor.
05:13 I mean, obviously, that was kind of a big moment.
05:15 What did you see there?
05:17 Everything was going by so fast.
05:19 We thought we had the ball.
05:20 And then it was just--
05:22 yeah, it was just one by fives.
05:25 So was it in the game plan a little bit
05:27 to try to attack the rim a little more?
05:29 We only had 10 threes.
05:30 Coach Patino said he felt like his team did a good job of running
05:33 you all off the three-point line.
05:36 Part of the game plan, just the way it fleshed out?
05:39 We were just trying to take what the defense gave to us.
05:41 That's what Coach Josh told us, just play the game, be calm,
05:45 and just take what they give us.
05:48 And today, I was just getting to the basket more.
05:51 One more question.
05:54 You did get some shots.
05:55 You've had some trouble with consistency
05:57 this last few games.
05:59 Do you feel like your shot's coming?
06:01 Yeah, I'm not losing any confidence.
06:03 I know I put my work in in the gym.
06:05 These coaches are constantly pushing me.
06:06 And they're great with motivating me
06:08 and keeping confidence in me.
06:10 So I know it's going to come along.
06:11 And the water's going to rise.
06:13 Just at that point, when you see him shoot,
06:16 in games and practice, this man can shoot.
06:18 So it's just a matter of shots are going to fall, shoot to shoot.
06:23 I'm not worried about it.
06:24 I don't think he is.
06:26 Keep shooting.
06:28 Thank you, gentlemen.
