00:00 It is the most wonderful time of the year, but in 2023 have you been naughty or nice?
00:07 Well, a giant Santa spy is appearing on buildings around the city to watch over Bristolians
00:13 with one aim, to report back to the North Pole. Let's find out more.
00:18 Well, I'm Isambard Kingdon Brunel, or you can call me Mr Brunel for short. I'm a famous
00:23 Victorian engineer who's out wandering around in this modern, modern steel and concreted
00:29 world. Well, it is all about the man up there, Isambard Kingdon Brunelf. I must admit, it's
00:36 a very good name. I must admit I'm a bit biased towards that. So it is about an elf on a shelf.
00:43 He's very high up shelf, as you can see, and he is being dotted all around Bristol. Locations
00:50 are top secret because he's a very cheeky elf. He likes his location secret. However,
00:54 clues will be dropped on Redcliffe Temple bit. So keep an eye out on that for any clues
01:00 looking for this very cheeky elf.
01:03 Elf is our version of elf on the shelf, and Brunelf will be popping up on buildings in
01:08 the centre of Bristol over the next few weeks before Christmas Eve. And you just have to
01:14 follow us on social media and you'll find out where he's going to be.
01:18 And why are we doing this?
01:19 Well, it's just to put a smile on the faces of Bristol. It's something for all ages, for
01:24 all the family and kickstart the Christmas season. We're just really happy to get it
01:29 going.
01:30 I'm a prop maker, maker in general, and we're here because of the elf on the shelf up there.
01:37 I like being outside. I think it's quite nice in Christmas as well. Like even though it's
01:43 cold, you like get wrapped up warm and get like a nice festive drink like I got right
01:48 now. Yeah, it's just it's a nice festive activity and it's something you can just do for free
01:54 and come and like have a little look at something weird going on in the city.
01:58 Yeah, well, it is. I mean, it will help drive footfall and hopefully extra income for not
02:03 just the businesses in Flinders Reach, but those around the city as well. We just don't
02:08 know how big it's going to be, but it's had a really lot of interest so far. Elfie interest,
02:14 you could say.
02:15 All around the country, elf on the shelf has become a massive household seasonal tradition.
02:20 And in Bristol, Santa's spy will take on a similar role in watching over Bristolians
02:26 and bringing the city some Christmas cheer.
02:29 It's modelled off of the little one that you can have in your house. But I need to figure
02:34 out how much by what how much bigger it is. So it's four metres tall rather than like
02:41 six inches or something. So it's bigger, obviously, and it's made out of marine grade vinyl instead
02:49 of felt.
02:50 I'm very biased because I absolutely love it. It's a fantastic name. Couldn't pick
02:54 a better name for him up there, honestly.
02:58 But where will this Santa spy appear next? Only time will tell.
