Our reporter Michael Plant gives an update from Carrington after Erik ten Hag spoke to the press on Friday, ahead Manchester United's trip to Newcastle United.
Transcript
00:00 I'm at Carrington where this afternoon Eric Ten Hag held his pre-match press conference
00:03 ahead of Saturday's game against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
00:08 After such a high profile mistake on Wednesday night, it's unsurprising that Andre Onana
00:12 featured in a lot of today's questions.
00:14 Ten Hag was asked about the goalkeeper and actually pointed to one stat that says that
00:18 Onana is the second best goalkeeper in the Premier League in terms of expected shot saves
00:23 and only looting towns.
00:24 Kaminsky beats him in that particular stat.
00:27 I think that really is an indication that goalkeepers who tend to face a lot of shots
00:30 excel in that stat.
00:31 But Ten Hag certainly defended his goalkeeper once again.
00:34 He also gave an injury update ahead of the Newcastle game and confirmed that Mason Mount
00:38 is back in training but I don't think he's going to be involved in Saturday's game against
00:42 Newcastle.
00:43 Certainly he won't be available to start I would suspect.
00:46 And he was also asked about Kobi Meunier who came in and played such an impressive role
00:49 against Everton last week in the Premier League but wasn't involved from the start anyway
00:53 against Galatasaray.
00:54 He did come off the bench and he was asked about Kobi Meunier and said that he is ready.
00:58 Whether he starts or not we'll obviously find out tomorrow in the game and pointed
01:01 to his ability to scan the game as his main attribute.
01:04 But Erington, Hag, as I say, held his pre-match press conference today and it's going to be
01:09 an important match against Newcastle.
01:10 United of course go into the game actually in the form side in the Premier League having
01:15 won 5 of 6.
01:16 They're currently sixth in the table but they have struggled when they faced sides
01:19 in the top half of the division.
01:21 Newcastle playing pretty well at the moment.
01:22 They beat Chelsea 4-1 last time out and were unlucky to not beat PSG in midweek.
01:28 So it's going to be a really difficult game for United especially on the back of that
01:31 Galatasaray game and so many questions being asked.
01:33 But a huge match and of course as always we'll be covering it on Manchester World.
