00:00 Mr. McCandles, this is Bella.
00:05 Hello, Bella.
00:06 Oh!
00:07 Oh.
00:08 Bud.
00:09 Blood.
00:10 Bud.
00:11 Blood.

00:15 Bjorgsen and I started talking about poor things in 2017.
00:19 The idea of having a brain that is brand new,
00:21 what would that be?
00:22 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:24 Where did she come from?
00:26 She's an experiment.
00:27 She's progressing at an accelerated pace.
00:32 I was blown away by Bella, by the character.
00:35 I don't think I've ever seen or read anyone like that.
00:39 Working with Emma, that's the reason this film for me
00:41 was so exciting to make.
00:43 Bella.
00:44 Out.
00:45 [GUNSHOT]
00:46 My character, the doctor, sees her as an experiment,
00:49 which at some point reaches a crisis.
00:51 I can't let you go.
00:52 If you do not, Bella shall turn rotten with hate.
00:56 [SCREAMING]
00:58 I must set forth into waters.

01:03 That you could have the kind of mind that isn't
01:06 taught to be a certain way, I think that's very inspiring.
01:10 All of these things that women are conditioned
01:13 a whole lifetime through do not apply to her.
01:16 You will confine yourself to three phrases--
01:19 how marvelous, delighted, and how do they make
01:22 the pastry so crisp, yes?
01:24 You get some very funny situations.
01:26 [GUNSHOT]
01:27 [GASPS]
01:29 Oh.
01:30 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:32 Emma is unbelievable.
01:33 The development of the brain, it's such a fine line,
01:37 especially as we shoot things out of order.
01:39 And she's really tracking the progression,
01:42 not just with her voice, but also with her body.
01:44 It's an incredibly challenging part.
01:45 It's probably the hardest part I've ever played.
01:47 A woman plotting her course to freedom.
01:50 How delightful.
01:53 It's a huge leap for her forward.
01:55 That's incredible to witness.
01:56 I don't know how this could have been made without her.
02:00 I wanted to play Bella because it felt like acceptance
02:03 of what it is to be a woman, what it is to be free,
02:06 what it is to be confident, and just a little bit [BLEEP] up.
02:12 We will need less of your tongue in the future,
02:14 but overall most agreeable.
02:16 It just felt like the perfect combination of all of that.
