00:00 Opak!
00:01 Sleigh!
00:05 How are you doing with the AI Yearbook trend?
00:08 Don't deny my beshe-cakes, for sure!
00:11 You're not alone!
00:12 But did you know that this is a deepfake?
00:15 I'm Gail Cayetano, and welcome to Facts Talk!
00:20 I know by now you're thinking,
00:25 "I just want to join the trend, why are you so picky?"
00:29 Sorry, Akin!
00:30 But it doesn't hurt to know a bit about what you're trying out.
00:33 So, what is deepfake?
00:35 Deepfake is a type of Generative Artificial Intelligence
00:39 that is a combination of two terms,
00:41 Deep Learning and Fake Image and Video.
00:43 Deep Learning is machine learning
00:46 taught by computers that can understand using large data sets.
00:50 Based on the data inputted here,
00:52 it can create fake images and videos.
00:55 That's why it's called deepfake.
00:58 Or is it?
00:59 Let's simplify it.
01:01 In short, because of the large number of images and videos
01:04 that were researched and inputted,
01:06 computers can now reconstruct new images from scratch.
01:10 And create pictures and videos
01:12 of people who pretend to be doing things that they didn't do.
01:17 Even you, they can do it!
01:19 In short, deepfake.
01:21 Peke!
01:23 OMG!
01:24 #scary
01:26 Am I right?
01:28 Because of the high tech,
01:30 it's getting harder and harder to spot deepfakes from the OG ones.
01:34 What's worse,
01:35 AI detection tools are still not that reliable when it comes to detecting deepfakes.
01:41 If deepfake detection tools are not polished yet,
01:44 how can we be normal persons?
01:47 Chill!
01:49 Your heart might go to someone else.
01:52 Are we?
01:54 We're here to help you to be aware of deepfakes.
01:58 Because in this fam, we stand smart, guys and gals.
02:02 You might not know it,
02:04 but you're already trying to find out the deepfake.
02:07 For example,
02:08 the famous video of former US President Barack Obama.
02:12 President Trump is a total and complete...
02:14 Oop! Oop! Oop!
02:17 You thought it was Obama, right?
02:19 Ehh! You're wrong.
02:20 This is a public service announcement where it is shown that anyone can make a video
02:27 as long as you have the resources and the actor to pose as the famous personality.
02:31 That's why we're being reminded to be careful.
02:34 ...on trusted news sources.
02:36 And just this year,
02:37 the deepfake video involving rapper Nicki Minaj and actor Tom Holland went viral online.
02:43 The rapper himself called out to his ex-account that the video was fake.
02:48 Although deepfakes are a new trend,
02:50 most deepfakes are related to threats.
02:53 Now, how can we talk about a deepfake?
02:57 According to the study,
02:58 pay attention to the face.
03:00 Almost all deepfake manipulation is done to change the face.
03:04 Check the face and nose carefully if it's too smooth or wrinkly.
03:08 Are the eyes and eyebrows in place with the face?
03:12 Does facial hair sometimes look unnatural?
03:14 Do the eyes look like they're not trustworthy?
03:18 And if any video is being watched,
03:20 does the eyes look too much or not?
03:24 And when it comes to lip-syncing,
03:26 check if the lips are in sync with the words it's saying.
03:31 That's easy, right?
03:32 But the truth is,
03:34 because of the technical advancement of our time,
03:37 these deepfakes are becoming more and more real.
03:40 According to data analyst and AI ethics advocate,
03:43 Dominic Ligot,
03:44 most deepfakes nowadays are hard to detect
03:47 in terms of physical characteristics.
03:49 But there are two best ways to know if a video or picture is fake.
03:54 One, to look at the intent of the photo or video.
03:57 Does it say something bad or good about a person or a partner?
04:02 And second, to find out if it's out of character.
04:05 Find out why the person involved did what he did in the photo or video.
04:10 Because if the person involved in the photo or video is not good or out of character,
04:15 "Oh, this person is already on the alert."
04:17 But wait, what's the danger of this?
04:20 Simple, that's where identity theft or the theft of personal information and the use of unauthorized means will go.
04:28 Reputation damage or misappropriation,
04:30 spreading disinformation or spreading false information to deceive people,
04:36 and manipulation or control of thoughts, behavior, or decisions of an individual in a bad way.
04:42 Deepfakes can do more evil than good.
04:45 Disadvantages and threats outweigh the benefits.
04:48 And while the deepfake attacks are growing consistently,
04:51 they also become the hardest threats to combat.
04:53 So, how can we avoid becoming a victim of these?
04:58 As the expert said, we should not stick to methods that look at the text only.
05:03 Use logic, common sense, and political reasoning.
05:07 Don't judge mentally.
05:08 Be observant and look at the context and intent before judging if it's true or fake.
05:14 And lastly, it is important to get ahead of the news or the incident.
05:18 Let's stay on the legit sources, okay?
05:20 There's nothing wrong with joining fun trends.
05:23 But there's nothing wrong with being careful.
05:25 It's hard to be picky.
05:27 It's hard to be picky when someone loves you.
05:29 You might even be picky about photos and videos.
05:33 Correct?
05:34 Correct!
