00:05 In the gun, episode 128 of your new favorite WVU football podcast.
00:10 It's time for our final pick them of the season conference championship game
00:15 edition.
00:16 I'm Wesley Euler.
00:17 I've got the best teammates in the business.
00:20 The signal caller jet draining and the runaway beer truck down the sideline for
00:24 a state title.
00:26 Big Owen Schmidt and of course this episode of ITG as always brought to you in
00:30 part by our friends at bet online where the game starts.
00:34 Jed, this is not the start.
00:35 This is the end of our yearly pick them that we do every single week.
00:41 So recap for us how we did in the final week of the regular season here for
00:45 the last time.
00:46 All right, let's get this over with.
00:49 I don't think that's the podcast marketing tool kit that line that I just
00:54 thought okay, let's get this over with, right?
00:57 [LAUGH] So, all right, with the last week, as my signal caller of the week,
01:03 my big 12 offense to pass for the most yards.
01:08 I was of course mathematically eliminated.
01:10 So I said, why not?
01:12 I'm going with the fighting Garrett greens,
01:14 West Virginia throw for the most yards.
01:17 Well, they finished in the top five.
01:19 Garrett threw for 269.
01:21 That was good for fifth place in the big 12.
01:24 Oklahoma, of course, threw for the most because I didn't pick them.
01:27 TCU at 344 second.
01:30 Anyway, West Virginia comes in fifth place 269.
01:33 So I get ding ding one point.
01:36 Owen, you picked West Virginia, taking the same approach to rush for
01:40 the most yards.
01:41 West Virginia ends up running for a chunky 250 as we know.
01:45 That was good for fourth place among big 12 offenses.
01:50 So your beer truck of the week comes in fourth place.
01:53 Kansas ran for the most 312 against Cincinnati.
01:58 Texas ran for 302 as they decimated Texas Tech.
02:02 Iowa State in the snow and that zany game with a bunch of crazy stats and
02:06 that blizzard against K State Manhattan.
02:08 But Owen, your 250 yards places you fourth.
02:11 So you get ding ding two points this week.
02:16 Scoring defense, speaking of the blizzard in Manhattan.
02:20 West, you picked Kansas State as a defense of the week to allow
02:25 the fewest points.
02:26 That didn't work out in the snow.
02:30 Texas allowed the fewest points, seven, followed by UCF,
02:34 which allowed 13 against Houston.
02:36 Kansas allowed 16 to Cincinnati.
02:38 Anyway, on that line, you finished 11th out of the 14 big 12 teams.
02:44 Kansas State allowed 42 at a loss to Iowa State in Manhattan.
02:50 But again, that blizzard kind of threw a wrench in everything.
02:53 So no points for you this week.
02:56 Scoring offense, Schuyler went with the Mountaineers.
03:00 The Mountaineers, of course, scored 34.
03:04 Ordinarily, that might be enough to get you up there, but not this week.
03:09 This was a pretty high scoring week with some dynamic offensive performances.
03:14 Oklahoma dropped 69 on TCU.
03:17 >> Nice.
03:18 >> So that buzz saw us running even faster than when we were in Norman.
03:22 69 led the way by Oklahoma, most points by a big 12 offense this week.
03:27 Number two, Texas, 57.
03:30 Number three, 49 by Kansas.
03:32 Number four, 45 by TCU, followed by Iowa State.
03:35 West Virginia's 34 points came in an eighth place tie.
03:40 So no points for Schuyler.
03:43 So that leads to the final results for
03:48 leg one of our ITG Super Ooper competition at Palooza.
03:55 Of course, the picks are leg one.
03:58 And then we have conference championship weekend, leg two.
04:01 And then we have our bowl picks for leg three.
04:04 But this is a big leg, Wes.
04:06 How did it shake out, shake that leg?
04:08 >> All right, so here's our regular season standings.
04:12 Bringing up the caboose with 16 points,
04:14 doing his best Jarrett Brown impersonation is our signal caller, Jed Drenning.
04:21 Third place, doing his best,
04:23 Darwin Cook impersonation, I had to think real quick there on the fly.
04:30 With 25 points, it's the beer truck, Big Owen Schmidt.
04:36 His inaugural season here with us on the podcast,
04:39 coming in third with 36 points, Schuyler, Callahan.
04:46 And in first place, full- >> What did you get for 36?
04:51 >> Schuyler got 36.
04:53 >> No, who was the mountaineer you gave?
04:55 >> I didn't give anyone.
04:57 >> I'm gonna say Shaq Cutaway, I don't know why I'm just gonna say Shaq.
04:59 >> There you go, that's a good one, that's a good one, I like that.
05:01 >> Go ahead, start in a row.
05:02 I like where you were going with all of it.
05:04 >> I don't know why I gave that up, you're right.
05:07 And then, the top of the mountain here for our regular season, standings 42 points.
05:13 Schuyler made a late charge, God bless him.
05:15 But I was able to hold him off, as I will finish with 42 points.
05:19 Who are we going with for 42, Jed?
05:22 >> Okay, I'll tell you who I'm thinking of.
05:25 Here's your hints, running back, Hawaii.
05:27 >> Wait, running back Hawaii?
05:31 >> Adrian Morrell.
05:32 >> Wow, you're harkening back there.
05:37 >> Well, that's cuz I'm an old man, I played with Adrian.
05:39 [LAUGH]
05:44 >> I love it.
05:45 So there's our standings for this year.
05:47 I know Schuyler, this is the part where he throws him up on the screen and
05:50 all that.
05:50 And yes, so 1, 2, 3, 4, West Sky, Jed, for our regular season pick them.
05:59 Now, we did get our Neil Armstrong, Jed, our buddy Jake down in Australia.
06:03 But we're still waiting for our first state side,
06:09 our first American to pick four for four here.
06:15 But how did our viewers do this week?
06:16 I think a couple people had two, right?
06:18 No threes, but I think a couple people had two.
06:20 >> Yeah, I tell you what, this was the best.
06:24 I could have leaned into a phone or friend for some help on this because it was
06:29 the best that our listeners/viewers did on picking the passing offense.
06:34 We had a stretch one time, guys,
06:36 that we had three right and three weeks on the passing offense.
06:39 Well, this week, we had seven listeners pick Oklahoma and
06:43 get it correct for the passing offense.
06:45 We had nobody get the rushing offense, Owen.
06:48 We only had one get, Brock Melko is the only who got the scoring defense, Wes.
06:57 But Brock Melko also got the scoring offense.
07:01 He was one of four that got scoring offense.
07:02 So Brock Melko was one of our listeners who had two.
07:07 We also had Anthony Perry.
07:10 Anthony Perry got the passing offense right with Oklahoma, and
07:15 he got Oklahoma's scoring offense.
07:18 They dropped that 69 spot, as we just talked about, against TC in the 69-45 win.
07:23 So Anthony Perry, congratulations, you got two.
07:27 And we said Brock Melko got two.
07:31 We had some others scattered in there who at least hit one, which none of us did.
07:35 Shout out to Patrick Middle, shout out to Oki King, shout out to Michael Lovejoy,
07:42 Jesse, Eli, and Joe Bashaw.
07:45 And then finally, I'll tell you what, I missed one.
07:49 It looks like Braxton Fuller might have gotten two right as well.
07:53 So yeah, we got the offense and the Braxton Fuller.
07:57 >> I know Braxton from Twitter.
07:58 >> Yeah.
08:00 >> He's an active participant in WVU Twitter, baby, come on.
08:05 >> There you go, perfect.
08:07 All right, so that's how it all shook out.
08:09 >> Well, I know Big O is happy at least.
08:12 Big O beat Jed, so at the end of the day, right, O, that's all that matters.
08:16 >> I mean, quite honestly, I know more football than Jed.
08:20 >> [LAUGH] >> I wish I could refute that.
08:25 >> Hey, Owen, you're just like Boobie Miles in this case, baby.
08:32 It's God given, all right?
08:33 The only thing I gotta do is just shout.
08:35 >> Put Owen in if you wanna win, son.
08:38 >> [LAUGH] >> Meanwhile, speaking of Mountaineers,
08:42 I'm the CJ Donald in the sequence.
08:45 CJ Donaldson's number four comes into play here.
08:50 >> I see what you did there.
08:51 I see what you did there, old Jedger.
08:55 All right, so we're gonna take a break.
08:56 When we come back on the other side, a little different this week.
08:58 There's ten conference championship games this weekend across college football,
09:04 starting on Friday, going through the weekend.
09:06 We will give our picks for each ten, for all ten, there we go,
09:12 of those upcoming conference championship games.
09:14 There's some juicy ones.
09:15 This is maybe the best slate of conference championship games in recent memory.
09:19 So we'll get into all of that when we return on the other side.
09:22 A thank you to our friends at Toothman Ford.

11:14 >> Let's go, Mountaineer fans.
11:18 You're tuned in to In the Gun with Wes, the runaway beer truck and
11:22 the signal caller.
11:23 [SOUND] >> Back in the gun here,
11:28 it's time to talk some conference championship games.
11:31 They start Friday night, gentlemen.
11:33 We'll do this, for those of you following along at home,
11:36 in chronological order based off of when these games kick off.
11:40 They start Friday night.
11:42 Jed, you mentioned on our Baylor recap episode,
11:44 you were talking about Auburn and Alabama, and New Mexico State in there as well too.
11:50 They of course just had a big victory.
11:51 New Mexico State beat Auburn more comfortably than Alabama did in back to
11:55 back weeks.
11:56 New Mexico State, they're taking on Liberty, the ranked,
12:00 the undefeated Liberty there as well as, I'm drawing a blank.
12:05 What's Liberty's mascot right now?
12:06 I'm drawing a complete blank.
12:08 That's right, the Flames, that's right.
12:11 That game in Lynchburg, Virginia.
12:14 Can New Mexico State go on the road there?
12:17 They are ten point underdogs, Jed.
12:19 >> They are.
12:22 Liberty's unbeaten for a reason.
12:24 Jamie Chadwell's done a heck of a job there after leaving Coastal Carolina.
12:28 West Virginia currently sits at number one in all of Power Five in rushing offense.
12:34 For the first time, I posted this on the Twitter account, and
12:37 it got a lot of traction.
12:39 Owen, since you guys played, since 2007,
12:41 that's the last time West Virginia led all Power Five schools.
12:45 Now again, I think it's Power Four now.
12:47 But they don't lead the nation.
12:48 Guess who leads the nation when you count the G5 schools?
12:51 In other words, all of FBS, Liberty.
12:54 Liberty is running the football and running the football at will.
12:57 I think they continue to do so.
12:59 I'm going with the Flames.
13:00 >> I would agree, I'd go with Liberty as well.
13:06 Considering I'm the Quincy Wilson of our Pickham series.
13:11 >> There he is.
13:13 >> Liberty's got it.
13:14 >> Easy there, Stedman Bailey, all right?
13:17 I mean, just take it easy.
13:21 I also like Jed going with CJ there in the previous segment and not Letty Brown.
13:25 I mean, I tell you what, how quick they forget.
13:28 >> Listen to C. Bias.
13:29 >> Friday night, now this is, fellas, this is the one, all right?
13:33 Top ten matchup, Pac-12.
13:35 This is a great kind of- >> Hey, what'd you say?
13:39 >> That's true, actually.
13:41 I should give my conference USA championship.
13:44 >> We need Skyler's pick, which we don't have right now.
13:46 He's got to send him to us.
13:48 >> He'll throw it up on the graphic, how about that?
13:50 >> He'll throw it up on the graphic, yeah.
13:52 >> I'm gonna go New Mexico State, all right?
13:53 If they can go down to Auburn and get a W on the road,
13:57 they can certainly do the same thing there in Lynchburg.
14:00 >> Did you see that? He's trying to slip out of here.
14:02 He's like that guy that has this big lead.
14:04 And now all of a sudden he's recoiling, playing conservative, you see?
14:07 >> Listen, I was doing the Reese Davis thing, right?
14:11 Where the host doesn't make a pick.
14:13 >> Are we doing the points thing, like we're giving up as many, you know what I
14:16 mean, are we doing that so we can actually have the chance of winning here?
14:20 >> No, that part's the pick apart's done and dusted.
14:22 This is it's own game.
14:23 >> No, you didn't want to say, hey, I'm gonna give up this many points.
14:28 I'm gonna bet everything.
14:30 >> There's no daily double.
14:32 There's no daily double here, Alex.
14:34 >> Alex Trebek.
14:34 >> Okay, I'm just asking there.
14:37 >> I'll tell you.
14:38 >> Someone seems like he doesn't want to really gamble.
14:42 >> Yeah, you're right.
14:43 When you're the leader of the pack, I mean.
14:45 >> Yeah.
14:46 >> I see what he's saying there.
14:48 Hey, yeah, hey, Wes, I'll tell you what.
14:50 If we give you so many points and liberty, that kind of thing.
14:55 Yeah, I see what he's saying.
14:57 >> Listen, gentlemen, the real victory for me is the friends and
15:01 the memories we've made along the way.
15:03 So we can do it.
15:04 >> [LAUGH] >> Here's how,
15:06 you wanna know the rules to this?
15:09 After I find out how my picks went, I'll let you know the rules.
15:12 >> [LAUGH] >> There we go.
15:15 I'll let you know how the scoring goes.
15:17 >> We should have also talked about this ahead of time.
15:18 Like, am I getting the ten points with New Mexico State or
15:21 am I just picking them to win straight up?
15:23 I mean, I'm sticking with my pick either way just for clarity purposes.
15:27 >> That's a great question.
15:29 I say, yeah, instead of heads up, cuz the Bulls will be heads up cuz they get too
15:33 crazy.
15:34 This is a different animal.
15:35 We don't have all the opt outs and all that kind of stuff.
15:37 >> Sure.
15:38 >> Yeah, I say let's go with the point spread.
15:40 So I'm laying the ten with liberty and New Mexico State against New Mexico State.
15:46 I'm laying the ten, I'm sticking with.
15:48 >> I'm sticking with him too.
15:50 >> I am too.
15:51 So Wes, what's your- >> I think it's gonna be a blowout,
15:52 honestly.
15:53 >> There you go.
15:54 All right, so- >> You too, Wes, are you Mexico State?
15:56 >> No, I'll take the plus ten in New Mexico State, yeah.
15:59 >> Okay, gotcha.
16:00 All right, next.
16:01 >> Next is, like I said, top ten matchup.
16:03 I've been looking forward to this one for a couple weeks.
16:06 Two of the best teams in college football.
16:08 I tell you what, heck of a way for the Pac-12 conference to go out.
16:12 At Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, number four, Washington,
16:16 against number six, Oregon.
16:17 Gentlemen, I think Oregon might be the best team in the country right now.
16:20 I truly believe that.
16:22 I know Washington beat them in Seattle earlier in the season.
16:26 I know all of that.
16:27 Oregon is nine and a half point favorites.
16:31 >> Yes.
16:31 >> That's crazy to me because I think Oregon should be favored.
16:34 Because again, I know it's the weird thing that we do in sports, right?
16:37 Like this team beat this team head to head, but
16:39 I still think the team that lost is better.
16:41 If you go back and watch that game, man,
16:43 Oregon really shot themselves in the foot in that game.
16:46 I don't like the nine and a half.
16:50 I like Oregon to win this game.
16:52 But if we're going with points, Jed, I think I'll take Washington to cover.
16:56 But man, this is a great way for the Pac-12 as we know it to go out.
17:01 This is, I think, the most intriguing of all the conference championship games.
17:05 >> So you're going with Washington to cover?
17:08 >> Washington, yeah, I'll take Washington plus nine and a half, absolutely.
17:11 >> I got you.
17:12 >> I think Oregon wins, but not by ten points.
17:15 >> I see what you're saying.
17:15 Okay, I'm gonna write that down as we're speaking.
17:20 I'm gonna go ahead and say,
17:22 I think Oregon feels they need to make a statement to get in.
17:26 No doubt, I think Oregon has a far nastier defense.
17:29 We always say on this podcast, we're a podcast that believes defense travels.
17:32 I'm gonna go with Oregon.
17:35 I'm gonna go with Oregon to cover, nine and a half.
17:38 >> Yeah, I'm gonna go with Jed there as well.
17:41 If this game would be, like I said, last time they beat them was in Washington.
17:47 I mean, at home, absolutely, I think the Huskies got them.
17:52 But I think Oregon's, even with the points,
17:57 I think they're, like Jed said, they got something to prove here.
18:00 >> I tell you what, that's gonna be a fun one.
18:04 That's gonna be a fun one Friday night.
18:06 Put the kids to bed, all right?
18:08 Watch the Pac-12 as we know it, go out with what's hopefully a bang there.
18:13 On to Saturday, of course, setting the stage as always,
18:16 is the Dr. Pepper Big 12 Championship Game.
18:20 Oklahoma State, Texas, the Horns, fellas, 14 and a half point favorites.
18:28 Jed, another team that needs to make a bit of a statement to kind of solidify
18:32 their case to the college football playoff committee, what you got in this one?
18:35 >> Texas may in fact win the Big 12 and
18:41 write off leaving a sign drive, but it's not gonna do so with me picking.
18:49 I'm not betting against the guy that hunts rattlesnakes when you're giving me 14 and
18:52 a half points in a championship game.
18:54 I'm not betting against Mike Gundy.
18:56 I'm going with the fighting Gundys with the 14 and a half.
18:59 >> Man, I hate to keep picking with Jed here, but 14 points.
19:07 Gundy's got something to prove.
19:09 I think he's gonna, I think, I'm gonna tell you this much too.
19:12 If that running game comes to play, look out, Texas.
19:18 >> Yeah, yeah, I agree.
19:21 >> What concerns me, the O line against Texas' D line, that is my concern.
19:27 Cuz it's been the ransom note O line, it's found a way with Ollie Gordon.
19:30 But yeah, I agree with you, and if they have a pulse around the football.
19:35 But Wes, what do you think?
19:37 >> I don't like it when we're all on the same page, but
19:41 I think we're all on the same page here.
19:42 I will take Oklahoma State in 14 and a half points.
19:47 But I think Texas wins this game by 10, 13, something like that.
19:52 I'm with you.
19:54 I think Texas is really good, as much as it pains me to say.
19:57 I think they'll win in the trenches.
19:59 And I think that will lead to a comfortable, but
20:02 not a 15 point or more victory for the Longhorns.
20:05 So Texas to win, but I think we're all taking Okie State in the 14 and
20:09 a half points, that's a massive number.
20:12 >> Yeah, also kicking off at noon in a different NFL stadium up there at
20:17 Ford Field in Detroit, the Mac Championship, Toledo hosting Miami of Ohio.
20:22 Toledo, seven and a half point favorites, Jed.
20:24 >> I'll say this, Toledo maybe should have beat Illinois in that season opener.
20:33 They had a shot, and they haven't lost since.
20:37 I think those fellas are believing.
20:41 I'm gonna go with Toledo.
20:42 They're giving up seven and a half against the fighting Roethlisbergers.
20:47 >> [LAUGH] Jed's laying the points.
20:52 What do you think, El?
20:52 >> I'm just gonna go against Jed on this one.
20:56 I'm gonna pick Miami.
20:57 >> I'm gonna take Miami as well too.
21:00 I think Toledo could win this game, no doubt.
21:03 But seven and a half, yeah, give me the Red Hawks plus seven and a half.
21:07 They took down Cincinnati earlier in the season on the road.
21:09 They beat a power five foe.
21:11 Let's see if they can win the Battle of Ohio here in the Mac Championship.
21:16 Three o'clock on Saturday, Mountain West Championship in Las Vegas,
21:20 UNLV host Boise State, the Broncos,
21:25 two point favorites there at Allegiant Stadium.
21:28 Jed, what do you got for this one?
21:29 >> Well, it's curious.
21:33 In years past, I think it would be an easy choice in a matchup like this to go
21:38 with the Boise State teams that we know and love, but this hasn't quite been that.
21:43 And yet, Boise still laying two points.
21:46 It's in Vegas, there's a quasi home to.
21:51 >> Yeah.
21:52 >> This is one of those games that almost feels like Vegas knows something.
21:58 You know what I mean?
21:59 >> Well, they should, it's their own backyard, right?
22:03 >> I'm gonna go Boise.
22:04 >> Okay.
22:07 >> I'm definitely taking UNLV, it's a home game.
22:10 >> Yeah, I'm with you, big O.
22:14 >> It's a home game, two points, whatever.
22:17 >> Yeah, there ain't no blue turf there in Las Vegas last time I checked,
22:21 and I was just there about a month or so ago.
22:25 >> Mr. Historian, I believe Sammy Marone is with UNLV right now currently.
22:31 >> That sounds right.
22:33 >> I believe he is, so I gotta go with my Sammy the Bull, Marone.
22:37 I gotta go with my boy too.
22:39 >> I'm gonna go with Boise.
22:41 I don't know if you heard me before.
22:42 >> We did. >> Satellite disruption,
22:44 which means only one thing, invasion.
22:45 >> Yeah, I was gonna say,
22:47 we better get through these quick before Jed's internet connection-
22:50 >> Who knows?
22:51 >> Who'd you pick, Wes?
22:53 >> I'd take UNLV plus two.
22:54 >> Okay.
22:56 >> I'm going with the home team.
22:58 Four o'clock Saturday, another great one here.
23:01 Another top ten matchup, Alabama-Georgia, one verse eight.
23:06 Feels like, I mean, certainly with Georgia's case, but I think Alabama too.
23:09 If Alabama wins this game, they're going to the college football playoff.
23:13 Georgia favored by six points there in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
23:19 Big O, I'm gonna come to you first on this one, partner.
23:22 Man, we've seen this, right?
23:24 This is not a new rivalry.
23:27 This is not a new matchup.
23:28 Georgia and Alabama have been going at it for years now at the top of the SEC.
23:32 Is it still a bulldog reign for Georgia?
23:35 >> Kind of a home dog being in Atlanta too.
23:40 >> They're six point favorites, Georgia's six point favorites.
23:43 >> Six point favorites as well.
23:45 So they're giving up six, huh?
23:49 >> Laying six on the Bulldogs.
23:52 >> Boy.
23:53 >> I know.
23:55 Man, I think Saban might still have a little magic left in him.
24:00 I might, this one's gonna be close, I feel, I'm feeling it.
24:05 It's gonna be a close matchup, I'm gonna take the six points.
24:09 It's gonna be a close game, Georgia might squeak it out by a field goal,
24:14 but I think I'll take the points.
24:17 >> Signal caller.
24:19 >> So you're going with Bama?
24:24 >> He's going Bama plus six.
24:26 >> Roll tide.
24:27 >> Now again, I hate to agree, but here's the trend that I see.
24:31 Typically, when you have Georgia's attention, it hasn't gone well for you.
24:37 Ole Miss had Georgia's attention, they blew their doors off 52-17.
24:41 Tennessee had Georgia's attention, they blew their doors off 38-10.
24:44 But you know what?
24:45 Missouri kinda sorta had their attention too, and Missouri made a game of it.
24:48 Now, that was a road game.
24:52 This is quote unquote neutral side kinda sorta.
24:55 I think the Alabama offensive line, as wretched as it's been at large all
25:01 season, it's playing better the last three weeks, let's say.
25:04 I can't go against Nick with points in a title game.
25:10 You're telling me even if Nick Saban finds a way to lose by a field goal,
25:13 we win, I'm going Bama.
25:14 >> Well, as Lee Corso famously said in our last Pick'em episode,
25:22 not so fast, midgets.
25:23 >> [LAUGH] >> He did say that.
25:28 Bulldogs by seven, they cover by the skin of their chinny chin chin.
25:36 28 to 21, Georgia gets it done.
25:39 Same time on Saturday, the AAC Championship in New Orleans,
25:45 Tulane hosting SMU, the Ponies against the Green Wave.
25:51 Jed, how's this one play out?
25:52 >> Distractions or not with their head coach having his name attached already to
26:00 different openings, I think Tulane is a complete football team at home.
26:07 I think that's worth the five and a half that they're laying against an explosive
26:12 SMU team, but I think that they find a way to win and cover.
26:15 I'm gonna go Tulane.
26:16 >> There you go.
26:19 >> Yeah, we got some West Virginia boys in this game.
26:22 >> Yes, we do. >> We got Big Oak, SMU.
26:28 >> That's true.
26:32 >> Right, and we got, I believe, Ryan Stanchik is at Tulane right now.
26:35 >> I believe, let's see, let's see.
26:40 >> Is he?
26:41 >> You are correct, wait.
26:42 What's this?
26:48 This roster I'm looking at is putzley.
26:51 I don't- >> Ryan Stanchik.
26:57 >> There is he- >> I don't see him on here, Big O.
26:59 >> He's either at Tulane or Toledo.
27:01 I'm gonna get those mixed up all the time.
27:03 >> Okay, yeah, I do the same thing.
27:04 I'm not seeing him on the Tulane roster.
27:08 >> You mean on the Tulane staff?
27:12 >> He's on the staff.
27:13 >> Sorry, on the staff, yeah, sorry, sorry.
27:17 >> Hold on though.
27:19 >> He's Tulsa.
27:19 >> Okay, there we go.
27:22 I knew it was a T.
27:23 >> That's what it looks like here.
27:25 I kind of lost track myself there, yeah.
27:27 >> Yep, you know what, I'm gonna go with Guerin.
27:30 What's the point spread here?
27:32 >> Tulane is five and a half point favorites.
27:35 >> Yep, I'm going with Big Oak.
27:38 I got a feeling.
27:38 >> Or SMU.
27:39 >> SMU.
27:40 >> Yep.
27:41 >> All right.
27:42 >> All right. >> Well, I'll split the difference here.
27:44 I'm gonna go with Tulane as well too.
27:47 SMU just bothers me.
27:48 Pay your way into a power conference.
27:52 What a bunch of dorks, okay?
27:54 That's gonna look real good for
27:56 you when the ACC is the next to collapse in a few years.
27:59 Give me Tulane, minus five and a half.
28:02 Also, Saturday afternoon, the Sun Belt Championship, Troy.
28:07 They are hosting at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
28:09 App State, Troy, six and a half point favorites, Jed.
28:15 Look at Troy's two losses.
28:16 We've talked about JMU and everything they've done.
28:18 The other one was at Kansas State.
28:21 Other than that, Troy's 10 and 0.
28:24 So this is a heck of a rivalry in the Sun Belt.
28:27 It's been a rivalry for a good long time.
28:29 Back to, you're talking about the Neil Brown Satterfield days even before that.
28:34 I think that Troy can be a handful when they get cranking at home.
28:39 What's the line again, Wes?
28:42 Six and a half.
28:43 >> Six and a half, Troy, yeah.
28:45 >> I'm going with a lot of folks laying the points.
28:49 Man, I'm tempted to go Troy, but I'm gonna go App State.
28:52 >> [LAUGH]
28:58 >> Big O?
28:58 >> This is a tough one.
29:02 I've actually gotten to see a couple Appy State game.
29:07 I'm going with Troy.
29:08 They impressed me.
29:10 They impressed me against JMU.
29:13 I'm gonna go App State.
29:16 I'm gonna go App State.
29:17 I think Troy wins.
29:18 But I'll take the six and a half points with that.
29:20 I think it's a three point, a four point win for Troy, something like that.
29:24 So I'll take- >> Did you say,
29:25 we all went App State or did you say Troy?
29:27 >> No, Owen's going Troy.
29:28 >> Yeah, I think Troy beats him by 14, honestly.
29:31 >> Two more, gentlemen.
29:34 Saturday night, both at 8 o'clock, starting in Indianapolis,
29:37 one of America's most underrated cities there at Lucas Oil Stadium.
29:42 Michigan, 23, Michael Jordan, big ones.
29:48 They are favored against Iowa.
29:50 I mean, Jed, is this a top 20 matchup or what are we talking about here?
29:53 I mean, can a team who's ranked 17th in the country really be 23 point
29:57 underdogs in a conference championship game?
29:59 Are they really the 17th best team in the country if you're 23 point underdogs at
30:03 a neutral site?
30:04 >> All right, here's what I'm gonna say.
30:07 First of all, we don't have two games, two picks left.
30:10 We have three.
30:10 Let me explain.
30:11 We're gonna pick this game, okay?
30:14 And I am going to take Iowa with the points, all right?
30:21 >> That's hard. >> Neutral site or not.
30:22 First, you guys make your pick, and
30:25 then I'll tell you what the other pick here is before we get to the final game.
30:28 >> I'm picking Iowa as well with 23 points.
30:31 I mean, I kinda don't see that happening by Michigan.
30:36 >> As a recovered degenerate gambler, yes,
30:38 I will never lay 23 points, ever, ever.
30:42 I mean, unless it's Alabama playing South Central Missouri,
30:45 Tennessee Community College in the first week of the season,
30:49 I will never lay 23 points.
30:51 So yeah, Michigan wins.
30:52 They can win by three touchdowns, and Iowa can still cover.
30:55 I'll take the Hawkeyes in plus 23.
30:57 >> Okay, the second part.
31:00 For the second consecutive week, Iowa was involved in the lowest over,
31:07 under in the history of college football last week against Nebraska.
31:12 And they hit the under.
31:13 And what was it, 13 to 10?
31:16 >> Mm-hm.
31:18 >> Okay, they hit the under.
31:19 It was over under 25.5.
31:22 This one is over under 35.5.
31:26 So all three of us, interestingly enough, have picked Iowa.
31:32 So we kind of view this, I don't wanna speak for you.
31:35 But if you're picking Iowa, you kind of view it as them hanging around a little
31:39 bit, making it a little uglier than it should be.
31:42 But is it ugly enough to keep it under 35.5?
31:46 What say you, Owen, over or under 35.5?
31:49 >> Under.
31:50 >> Wes?
31:53 >> Under, 28 to 6, Michigan wins.
31:56 >> All right, to be different, I'm gonna go over.
32:00 Over 35.5, I'm hoping for a 24 to,
32:05 no, I'm hoping for a 27 to 10 kind of blowout.
32:09 That's what I want, yeah, 27 to 10, which- >> So wait, that was our tenth pick.
32:14 That was the extra pick there, it was the over under.
32:16 >> That was our tenth, now we have one left, that's right.
32:17 >> Okay, all right.
32:18 A matchup that maybe wasn't as juicy as we all thought it would be a couple weeks
32:23 ago, Florida State, Louisville, ACC Championship game Saturday night.
32:28 Louisville coming off a loss to Kentucky.
32:30 Florida State, of course, lost Jordan Hunter to just a,
32:33 I mean, you wanna talk about sad injuries like we were talking about with
32:36 Zach Frazier a little bit on the Baylor recap.
32:39 You're undefeated, you lose your quarterback at the very end of the season
32:43 to a broken leg, that's tough there for the Seminoles.
32:46 Florida State, two and a half point favorites there in the ACC Championship
32:51 game, I'll start out on this one here as we close this down.
32:55 I think Florida State still wins in covers.
32:58 I have a hard time thinking that they can do anything in the playoff without
33:02 Jordan Hunter.
33:03 I also I've been saying this all year and I'm gonna stand by it.
33:05 I think Louisville are crazy frauds.
33:08 I think they're a good team, but
33:09 I don't think they're a top ten team or anything like that.
33:12 I think more realistically, they're about an eight and four team,
33:16 kinda like WVU is.
33:17 They just had a favorable schedule this year.
33:19 They beat a really overrated Notre Dame team.
33:21 They beat a really overrated Duke team before both of those teams came back down
33:24 to life.
33:25 They lost a pit.
33:26 I mean, come on, pit.
33:29 Three wins on the season pit.
33:31 Two wins if you take away the Wofford win pit.
33:34 I know Florida- >> I went to the Big 12.
33:37 >> I went to in the Big 12, last place in the Big 12 pit, exactly.
33:40 Thank you, Jed.
33:41 I know Florida State, listen, you lose your quarterback.
33:44 I mean, that's tough, but they still pull this one out.
33:47 They win by seven, they win by nine, something like that.
33:50 So I'll lay the two and a half points with the Seminoles.
33:52 >> I'll go with you there too as well, yeah.
33:57 >> I just don't think Louisville's that good.
33:58 I have it all year.
33:59 >> I agree.
34:01 >> They're good, but they're not top ten good.
34:04 They're not top ten.
34:04 >> They're too wishy-washy.
34:06 >> Yeah, yeah.
34:06 >> Yeah, I can't go against Jeff Caulhane, the voice of the Seminoles.
34:12 >> There you go.
34:13 >> Road to Maker stepped in, he hasn't turned the ball over.
34:15 He's been somewhat productive, I agree with you.
34:18 Those are big shoes to fill.
34:19 What was the kid's name on the Cincinnati team, Martin?
34:23 Remember that he got hurt as they were putting seeds together for
34:27 the NCAA tournament several years ago?
34:29 >> Kenyon Martin.
34:30 >> Kenyon Martin, yeah.
34:31 They were trying to determine, okay, without Kenyon Martin,
34:34 are they still one seed?
34:34 And that was the great debate.
34:36 In other words, does their body of work, irrespective of who is and
34:39 isn't available, seed them?
34:40 Or does who they are right now seed them?
34:43 And that's kind of the conversation with Florida State, right?
34:47 But I have to go with Florida State to cover as well.
34:50 So we're three for three there.
34:51 So all right, we have some differences.
34:52 We'll see how it shakes out.
34:54 >> Hey, and eight teams still left in the college football playoff hunt.
35:00 It's a fun final week.
35:01 I'll go you one better, gentlemen, real quick here.
35:04 Your four teams when we get to next week in the college football playoff are gonna
35:07 be Georgia, Michigan, Texas, and Oregon.
35:11 There you go, write it down.
35:12 >> I'm gonna write it down, say it again.
35:16 >> Georgia, Michigan, Texas, Oregon.
35:22 Which would be a lot of fun too, four from four different conferences,
35:25 four regions of the country.
35:27 >> You're saying the 13 and 07 will sit home?
35:30 >> Yep, because of what you just said, because of what you just said.
35:35 No quarterback, yep.
35:37 >> That's tough.
35:40 >> Now- >> That's tough.
35:43 >> There's some chaos here that could happen, right?
35:46 I mean, there's certainly some chaos.
35:48 But yes, I have one lost Texas and one lost Oregon getting in.
35:52 Over Florida State, Florida State's gonna stay at that five position.
35:55 All right, there's my babe Ruth moment, unsolicited extra prediction from me.
36:03 When you're in first place for the pick them, you can do these kind of things.
36:07 >> Wow, Wes's head just exploded.
36:10 >> [LAUGH] >> Good thing this isn't a classroom,
36:13 gentlemen, because my head would be so big, you couldn't sit behind me.
36:16 >> [LAUGH] >> Hey, this has been a lot of fun.
36:21 We will obviously recap how we did and all those things.
36:23 Still have Phil Steel to come this week with Jed and Skyler, but
36:27 this will be the last you see of Owen and I this week.
36:29 Big O, give them hell on Saturday, baby, let's go win state.
36:33 Big shout out to the Greenbrier West boys, let's go get it done.
36:40 A thank you to Fortis for presenting this episode of In the Gun.
36:44 As always, as well for Ruth performance and financial certainty guaranteed,
36:48 make sure you visit fortis.us.com.
36:51 It's been a lot of fun.
36:52 Let's hope we get an exciting conference championship slate here to put a bow on
36:58 what's been an exciting season and then we'll all meet back here next week.
37:01 Break it all down, talk about the WVU bowl game, talk about the college football
37:05 playoff and who we would have had in there.
37:06 It's certainly a fun time of year to be a college football fan.
37:10 For the signal caller Jed Drenning and the runaway beer truck Owen Schmidt,
37:14 I am Wesley Uler.
37:15 Thanks as always to our buddy Skylar Callahan for
37:17 putting this all together for us.
37:19 And the one thing we ask you, I forgot this on our last episode with Big Daddy in
37:22 the Baylor recap, is to be an ear and
37:24 tell an ear about your new favorite WVU football podcast.
37:29 Take care everybody, we'll talk to you soon.
37:30 You've been in the gun.
37:32 [SOUND]
