Former golf pro secures world record for rare feat

  • last year
It's every golfer's dream to hit a hole-in-one, but something not many will ever achieve. Former PGA professional Tony Riches waited 46 years for his first hole-in-one, but he's has now managed the feat four times, on the same hole.

00:00 My name is Tony Riches. I'm successfully recorded now as the Guinness World Record holder for
00:07 the most number of hole-in-ones of four in competition play on the same hole.
00:14 And approximately 18,000 par 3s before I was fortunate enough to get my first hole-in-one.
00:18 Didn't think I'd ever have a hole-in-one.
00:20 I think the most amazing feeling that I had was when I successfully had my first hole-in-one.
00:24 It took away the fear of never having a hole-in-one or the doubt that I'd ever have a hole-in-one
00:29 and so standing on a tee, the second hole-in-one, I just had so much confidence in playing the
00:34 hole and it went straight in the hole.
00:36 When I tee it up on that hole I think about having a hole-in-one each time I tee it up
00:40 and it's happened four times.
00:42 Statistically they have assessed that you've got one chance in 10,000 strokes played on
00:47 a par 3 to get a hole-in-one. So if you multiply 10,000 by four times it's a very big number
00:54 of the chances of getting four hole-in-ones on the same hole.
00:57 It is my favourite hole and you know like when I had my first hole-in-one my thoughts
01:02 were when I pass away I want to be cremated and get my ashes scattered behind the back
01:06 of the hole so I can watch everyone else play that hole.
