00:00:11 - Today I wanna use one verse to stir your faith.
00:00:15 Just one verse to stir your faith.
00:00:18 How many of y'all need your faith stirred today?
00:00:21 One verse that's gonna stir your faith.
00:00:27 And what I'm getting ready to tell you,
00:00:29 this is good for you.
00:00:30 This is good for your children.
00:00:33 This is good for your children's children.
00:00:37 So we're gonna send this blessing backwards.
00:00:40 Bible says in Deuteronomy chapter eight, verse 18,
00:00:44 he says, "But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God,
00:00:55 "for it is he that giveth the power to get wealth,
00:01:00 "that he may establish his covenant,
00:01:06 "which he swear unto thy fathers as it is this day.
00:01:13 "For it is he who gives us the idea,
00:01:22 "the wisdom to create wealth."
00:01:25 I almost called this sermon a million dollar idea.
00:01:28 'Cause God is about to wake you up
00:01:32 in the middle of the night.
00:01:33 Let me rephrase that.
00:01:37 Some of y'all woke, you woke now, but you ain't woke.
00:01:41 God about to wake you up while you woke.
00:01:44 And some idea to change the trajectory of your life
00:01:51 is gonna hit you.
00:01:53 It's happening to me right now.
00:01:57 I got something I'm working on.
00:01:58 Every time I look, see, when you focus on something,
00:02:03 you will start to see it's already all around you.
00:02:05 You are ignoring the signs
00:02:08 because you haven't zeroed in on your vision.
00:02:10 I promise you, the moment you zero in on your vision,
00:02:13 everything is gonna start to speak to you.
00:02:16 I promise you, this is the truth.
00:02:19 Every clue you need,
00:02:20 you know how you've been struggling to name the business?
00:02:22 Once you figure out what it's gonna be,
00:02:24 all of a sudden, the name is gonna pop up.
00:02:26 Because God's gonna give you the ideas to create wealth.
00:02:30 And when you get there, it's gonna be stupid crazy.
00:02:34 Like, you're gonna have so much,
00:02:38 you're not gonna really know what to do.
00:02:40 This is gonna be the first time in your life
00:02:41 you have so much money you've been scared.
00:02:44 You're gonna have so much peace, you're gonna be afraid.
00:02:50 See, this is what the devil's gonna trick.
00:02:51 Your life is gonna go so good
00:02:53 that you're gonna be tiptoeing around
00:02:54 trying to figure out when it's gonna fall apart.
00:02:56 And I came to tell you, it's not.
00:02:58 This is what God told me to tell you.
00:03:05 After we finish this message, you're gonna be so blessed,
00:03:07 you're gonna ask yourself the question,
00:03:09 which is why I named this sermon,
00:03:12 how did I get here?
00:03:14 How did I get here?
00:03:19 I want you all to just, somebody just prophesy
00:03:21 out of your purse and say, how did we get here?
00:03:23 Just speak to it.
00:03:24 Speak to your wallet, speak to your pocket,
00:03:27 speak to your heart, speak to your mind.
00:03:29 How did I get this peaceful?
00:03:30 How did I get this happy?
00:03:32 How did I get this tranquil?
00:03:33 How did I get here?
00:03:34 I was just depressed six weeks ago.
00:03:36 How did I get here?
00:03:44 You may be seated in the presence of the Lord.
00:03:47 (congregation laughing)
00:03:51 So the book of Deuteronomy is written by Moses.
00:03:57 And Deuteronomy is, according to some theologians,
00:04:03 his farewell speech before he dies.
00:04:07 Some refer to Moses as the escape artist.
00:04:13 If you look at his life,
00:04:14 he's always getting out of something.
00:04:15 He was born to a mother who couldn't nurse him
00:04:19 because Pharaoh wanted him dead.
00:04:21 She puts him in the water.
00:04:23 Pharaoh's daughter gets him out of the water
00:04:26 and raises him in the house, escape artist.
00:04:30 Escape artist.
00:04:31 He's always getting out of trouble.
00:04:34 And he writes Deuteronomy as his farewell speech.
00:04:39 And God gives him the brush.
00:04:42 And Deuteronomy is what he paints.
00:04:45 And as we look at this, one theologian says
00:04:48 that this text, this chapter should actually be called,
00:04:53 it's called Deuteronomy, but one author said,
00:04:57 it should be called "As I Really Am."
00:05:01 And he goes on to say in his book, he says,
00:05:06 the reason why we should call this book "As I Really Am"
00:05:10 is because when Moses paints the picture of Israel
00:05:13 on the tapestry of Deuteronomy,
00:05:16 he does it with all of the pimples and all of the freckles
00:05:20 and all of the crows free and all of the impurities
00:05:23 because you cannot give an actual portrait
00:05:27 and leave out the blemishes.
00:05:29 And he goes on to say,
00:05:33 the reason why Deuteronomy wouldn't work in 2023
00:05:36 is because most people never post pictures
00:05:40 of how they really look.
00:05:41 (congregation chattering)
00:05:45 Come on, y'all, talk to me.
00:05:47 When my wife and I were on the way to Africa,
00:05:50 there was a lady sitting in front of me.
00:05:52 When I tell you she took at least 37 selfies of herself,
00:05:57 and I thought to myself, I said, now it's you.
00:06:02 It ain't gonna change.
00:06:06 I don't care.
00:06:08 I mean, come on, how many y'all ever say, they go,
00:06:11 come on, Angus.
00:06:12 (congregation chattering)
00:06:16 All right, why is it taking you so long to find your angle?
00:06:22 You've been with you all day long.
00:06:23 You should know your angle.
00:06:25 She's snapping and snapping,
00:06:28 and then the picture she took,
00:06:30 she put it in an app to retouch it
00:06:33 because most of us don't want images of ourselves
00:06:37 out there that haven't been retouched.
00:06:40 (congregation chattering)
00:06:42 Which is why God allowed Moses to write the story
00:06:45 about Israel because the photographer,
00:06:50 his job is to capture you in the best image,
00:06:54 but as he presents this to God, he says,
00:06:58 for the first time, I can't cover up the blemishes
00:07:03 because when you get where you're going,
00:07:07 I need you to remember where you came from.
00:07:10 (congregation applauding)
00:07:13 And how many people in here are always trying
00:07:18 to erase the parts of your past
00:07:21 that you don't want anybody to remember.
00:07:25 You sanitize and bleach where you are
00:07:29 without letting anybody know where you came from,
00:07:33 but the most important thing about you
00:07:35 is not where you ended up.
00:07:38 It's where you came from.
00:07:39 (congregation applauding)
00:07:42 How many of y'all, if you look over your life,
00:07:44 you ought to be shocked that you made it this far.
00:07:47 (congregation chattering)
00:07:49 Come on, I mean, how many of y'all can think
00:07:51 of at least two times where you almost went crazy,
00:07:53 three times where you almost killed somebody,
00:07:55 four times where you almost killed yourself?
00:07:57 The beauty of your life is that you never gave up,
00:08:06 that you never quit, and the truth is,
00:08:10 you have seen people buckle
00:08:12 under the same pressure that you carry.
00:08:15 How many of y'all ever been through some hard stuff?
00:08:19 I just wanna know if I'm in the right place.
00:08:22 Hard stuff, I don't care if you're 18 or 88,
00:08:24 you've been through some hard things,
00:08:29 but one of, and write this down
00:08:30 if you don't hear anything else I say,
00:08:32 one of the first steps towards maturity
00:08:37 is accepting reality.
00:08:39 (congregation chattering)
00:08:41 I just, I'm gonna say it again
00:08:43 'cause that's the best I got today.
00:08:45 One of the first steps towards maturity
00:08:50 is accepting reality.
00:08:54 If you cannot accept where you are,
00:08:57 you don't deserve to go where you want to go.
00:09:01 (congregation applauding)
00:09:05 If I'm not good with money, I gotta accept that.
00:09:08 So then God can bless me with something to take care of.
00:09:13 If I'm not good with patience, I've gotta accept that.
00:09:17 If I'm not good at tranquility, I've gotta accept that.
00:09:20 You know, some people recharge in noise,
00:09:23 some people recharge in stillness.
00:09:26 Everybody's different, no matter what it is,
00:09:28 and I'm not saying either is right or wrong,
00:09:30 but I have to accept where I am.
00:09:32 I have to accept who I am.
00:09:34 I have to accept the way my mind works.
00:09:36 I have to accept all of the trauma
00:09:38 that brings me to the place that I'm at.
00:09:40 So the first step towards maturity
00:09:42 is not forgetting where I've been,
00:09:45 it's accepting where I am
00:09:47 and believing in the reality of where I am.
00:09:52 Now, there are three essential elements
00:09:55 that were crucial to Israel's success
00:09:58 and conquest of the promised land,
00:10:00 which I believe, ladies and gentlemen,
00:10:02 are the same three things
00:10:04 that God is requiring from us today.
00:10:06 Now, this is so important that it's gonna sound simple.
00:10:11 It's so important that many of you all are gonna miss it
00:10:14 because it doesn't rhyme,
00:10:16 it doesn't have a whole lot of sexiness to it,
00:10:19 it don't have a lot of flair,
00:10:20 and you're gonna miss it because we are tuned
00:10:24 to be excited about one hit of quitters
00:10:27 and those quotes that rhyme that everybody can use.
00:10:30 But I'm telling you, what I am getting ready to give you
00:10:32 are the three things that God asks from Israel.
00:10:34 They are the same three things
00:10:36 that he's asking from you and I today.
00:10:39 And these three things will set you up
00:10:41 to have the most successful Christian experience
00:10:45 you could ever have.
00:10:46 What I'm about to tell you will change your life.
00:10:54 It is a lesson that is worth sitting your children down
00:10:58 in a chair and saying, "Listen to mommy, listen to daddy."
00:11:01 These are the three things that will change your life.
00:11:06 It's worth putting as a screensaver on your phone.
00:11:09 It's worth writing in marker on your mirror.
00:11:14 It's worth putting on a notepad.
00:11:16 It's worth reciting every day.
00:11:19 And I'm afraid that when I give it to you,
00:11:22 you'll be like, "It's simple."
00:11:24 But it is what God told Israel
00:11:27 and it is what he told me to tell you today.
00:11:29 He says, "If you wanna have a successful life,
00:11:31 "here are the three things you need to do.
00:11:32 "Read the Word, remember the Word, and respond to the Word."
00:11:37 I told you they weren't gonna say nothing, I told you.
00:11:45 That's it, that's it.
00:11:47 Read the Word, remember it, respond to it.
00:11:49 There is nobody in the Scripture that ever failed,
00:11:52 that heard the Word, remembered the Word,
00:11:54 and responded to it.
00:11:56 Because the one thing that God cannot ignore
00:12:00 is what he said.
00:12:02 If God says, "Give 10% and he'll pour out a blessing on you,
00:12:09 "you don't have room enough to receive,"
00:12:11 he can't ignore that because he said it.
00:12:14 God is actually obligated to obey himself.
00:12:18 He cannot ask you to obey him and him disobey himself,
00:12:21 so if God said it, you can count on it.
00:12:24 I'm gonna prove it to you.
00:12:27 I'm gonna prove it to you throughout this message.
00:12:29 These are the three most important things
00:12:31 that you could ever teach anybody in your life.
00:12:35 It is not about, I'm telling you, eat right,
00:12:38 eat healthy, exercise, all of that is important.
00:12:40 But before you get to taking care of the physical body,
00:12:44 you've gotta take care of the spiritual body.
00:12:47 And let me tell you, reading the Word,
00:12:49 remembering the Word, and responding to the Word
00:12:52 are the most three important elements
00:12:55 in the entire universe.
00:12:57 Are you here with me today?
00:12:58 I'm gonna prove it to you.
00:13:01 The Bible says that God told Abraham
00:13:04 to take his only son Isaac to a mountain.
00:13:07 What would have happened if Abraham had heard the Word
00:13:14 and remembered the Word and not responded to it?
00:13:16 He would have never taken Isaac up the mountain.
00:13:20 Do you remember when the Bible says that God says to Samuel,
00:13:27 "Go to Jesse's house,
00:13:30 "because I have taken my anointing from Saul,
00:13:33 "and now I wanna anoint another king."
00:13:35 What if Samuel would have said,
00:13:36 "God, I'm not anointing today.
00:13:38 "I'm not going over, we would not have David.
00:13:42 "If we don't have David, we don't have Jesus."
00:13:46 Come on, church, come on, church, come on, church.
00:13:48 You remember Ananias?
00:13:49 The Bible says that God says to him, he says,
00:13:51 "Get up and go to Judas's house on Straight Street
00:13:54 "and ask him for a man named Saul."
00:13:57 In fact, let's go back a little further.
00:13:59 You remember there was a little boy named Samuel
00:14:03 who was born to a woman named Hannah,
00:14:05 and they were in the house of Eli,
00:14:07 who was the priest over the house.
00:14:09 And the Bible says that God says,
00:14:11 "Samuel," and Samuel ignores him.
00:14:14 He goes back to Eli and says,
00:14:15 "Eli, did you call me?"
00:14:16 Eli said, "I hadn't opened my mouth."
00:14:18 He went back and laid back down.
00:14:20 Another voice says, "Samuel."
00:14:22 Samuel got back up and said, "Eli, did you call me?"
00:14:24 Eli said, "Boy, I told you, I'm asleep.
00:14:27 "How can I call you when I'm asleep?"
00:14:29 He goes back to bed.
00:14:30 The Bible says again, Samuel.
00:14:32 He gets back up and goes to Eli.
00:14:35 Eli says, "If you come in here and ask me one more question,
00:14:37 "I'm gonna knock you out."
00:14:38 Samuel goes down and lays down,
00:14:40 and then the Bible says,
00:14:41 the last time Samuel, Samuel gets up and says,
00:14:44 "God, was that you?"
00:14:45 And God says, "Finally."
00:14:46 Because you're going to respond to somebody's word.
00:14:55 You just better make sure it's God's.
00:14:57 You're gonna have to obey somebody, even if it is yourself.
00:15:04 There are somebody's words that you're going to hear.
00:15:08 There are somebody's words that you're going to listen to,
00:15:11 even if it's yourself.
00:15:12 And God says, "I need you to pay attention to my word."
00:15:17 He says, "I don't care what you hear on YouTube.
00:15:19 "I don't care what you see on TikTok.
00:15:22 "The only success that will come to your life
00:15:25 "will be a result of remembering and responding to my word."
00:15:35 Nobody gets excited about the only thing that works.
00:15:40 If I told you to get up, slap your neighbor three times,
00:15:44 and it was a miracle gonna fall out of the air,
00:15:45 y'all be shouting all over this place.
00:15:48 Let me ask you, where that miracle at?
00:15:50 It comes as a result of being obedient to the word of God.
00:15:56 Watch this.
00:16:03 Four times between Deuteronomy chapter eight and chapter 11,
00:16:06 Moses says, "Remember the word."
00:16:10 Another four times in the same four chapters, he says,
00:16:14 "Don't forget the word."
00:16:16 So when I preach this sermon today,
00:16:20 when you listen to a message,
00:16:24 you only remember about five to 10%.
00:16:28 If you go back and watch it again on YouTube,
00:16:30 you will increase that to about 20%.
00:16:33 If you actually listen and write notes,
00:16:36 you'll increase that to about 50%.
00:16:38 And if you listen to it over and over and over again,
00:16:41 you can actually increase that to about 70%.
00:16:44 That's why David said, "Thy word have I hid in my heart,
00:16:47 "that when stuff get hot,
00:16:50 "I can remember what you told me not to do."
00:16:52 I'm paraphrasing.
00:16:53 But reading the word, watch this,
00:16:56 reading the word helps you with your reactions.
00:17:00 (audience cheering)
00:17:03 It will.
00:17:05 It will.
00:17:07 It's like if I give you a million dollars right now
00:17:10 and the word says tithe,
00:17:12 and you read that over and over and over again,
00:17:13 it'll be like I give you the money
00:17:15 and then you might have a struggle,
00:17:17 but you'll be like, "Man, 100,000.
00:17:21 "Man, you know what I can do with 100,000?"
00:17:28 You can do anything you want to do with it,
00:17:30 but the word tells you what you should do with it.
00:17:33 And the only thing God is obligated to listen to
00:17:36 and obey is his word.
00:17:39 Y'all woke church?
00:17:41 Somebody say, "Obey the word."
00:17:45 Say it again, say, "Obey the word."
00:17:47 Now I'm getting ready to show you the four things
00:17:49 that God does to test us
00:17:51 to see if we are adhering to the word.
00:17:55 Number one, here it is, first point, God test us.
00:17:57 Everybody say, "God test us."
00:17:59 How many of you ever been tested by God?
00:18:01 Watch this.
00:18:04 He says in Revelations 2 and 23,
00:18:06 "And all the churches shall know that I am he
00:18:09 "who searches the minds and the hearts."
00:18:11 How many of you know God is searching right now,
00:18:14 searching your mind and your heart?
00:18:17 Now, before you get scared, he ain't gonna tell nobody.
00:18:20 And he already knows what he's looking for.
00:18:27 Let me read it to you, Jeremiah chapter 17, verse nine.
00:18:30 He says, "The heart is deceitful
00:18:33 "above all things and beyond cure."
00:18:37 How many people go around telling me, "I got a good heart."
00:18:39 Find it in the Bible.
00:18:40 The Bible says in Jeremiah
00:18:43 that the heart is deceitful and beyond cure.
00:18:46 So here's the truth.
00:18:48 There is no good people in this room.
00:18:50 We're all bad people who do good things sometimes.
00:18:56 Now, I got Bible.
00:18:57 The Bible says there's none good, no, not one.
00:19:01 There is none good under the sun.
00:19:03 Let me ask you, anybody in here above the sun?
00:19:06 So we are not good people.
00:19:10 We are bad, sin-deprived people
00:19:13 who do good things on occasion
00:19:15 and some more often than others.
00:19:17 But he says the heart is beyond cure.
00:19:21 Listen, but he says, "I have a plan for that."
00:19:23 Now we're getting ready to preach.
00:19:24 He says, "In order to expose what's in the heart,
00:19:27 "me and the devil are gonna have a tag team against you.
00:19:31 "I'm gonna test you and the devil's gonna tempt you."
00:19:34 Come on, come on, come on.
00:19:37 See, I want y'all to understand,
00:19:40 for everybody who came to be entertained today,
00:19:42 this is a Bible-believing church.
00:19:43 We teach the Bible.
00:19:44 I am not an artist.
00:19:45 I don't entertain.
00:19:46 I preach the Word of God, okay?
00:19:48 Now, I can't do what Johnny said.
00:19:50 I can do all that, but we gonna do that later, okay?
00:19:53 All right, so somebody say, "Test."
00:19:55 - Test. - Tempt.
00:19:57 - Tempt. - The devil tempts,
00:20:00 but God tests.
00:20:02 James says that God will never tempt us
00:20:06 because there is no evil in him.
00:20:08 Come on, I need a Bible-believing church today.
00:20:10 Now, why is this important?
00:20:13 Because whenever you are tempted,
00:20:17 the word temptation means that I am giving you
00:20:20 a set of circumstances with the intent
00:20:23 of knowing you will fail.
00:20:24 A test says, "I'm gonna test you
00:20:30 "and give you the opportunity to make the right decision."
00:20:33 So the devil tempts us with things
00:20:38 that he knows we can't resist.
00:20:41 And anytime something comes up in your life
00:20:44 that's not good for you, that you struggle to get away from,
00:20:48 that ain't God, that came from the devil
00:20:51 because he wants you to fall on purpose
00:20:54 so he can accuse God of your mistake.
00:21:00 Now, now, for everybody here who's a real G
00:21:08 and ain't fake in church today,
00:21:11 you know that there's something in your life
00:21:16 that if it come up,
00:21:19 I don't care how many tongues you speak in,
00:21:21 it's on, come on now, come on, I'll let you boy.
00:21:27 I mean, every one of y'all got something.
00:21:30 Okay, all right, do me a favor
00:21:33 'cause I can't crack some of these soldiers in here.
00:21:35 Look at your neighbor and say,
00:21:35 "Ain't no future in your front."
00:21:37 I don't know why you sitting up in here
00:21:39 acting like you ain't got something
00:21:41 that if it came in here right now,
00:21:43 you will forget everything that's going on.
00:21:45 If Calvin come in here right now
00:21:48 and it ain't always a person,
00:21:57 sometimes it's a substance
00:21:59 and you know it's a temptation and a substance
00:22:06 'cause you always make excuses for it.
00:22:08 God know my heart, he knows my heart.
00:22:11 (congregation laughing)
00:22:14 Somebody say temptation.
00:22:22 Most of us live on temptation island.
00:22:25 The devil always tempting and tempting
00:22:28 and God says, "I'm never gonna tempt you.
00:22:30 "I'm gonna test you on the knowledge that you have
00:22:34 "and then I'm gonna give you an opportunity to succeed
00:22:36 "and if you don't, I'm gonna cover you by grace
00:22:38 "and then I'm gonna give you the test again
00:22:40 "as if you haven't taken it
00:22:42 "and I ain't gonna let nobody know what you did.
00:22:44 "I'm gonna cover you in my secret place
00:22:46 "and then I'm gonna test you again
00:22:48 "and I'll continue to test you until you pass."
00:22:51 Anybody glad he's a mighty good teacher?
00:22:53 God says, "I'm gonna test you
00:23:01 "but I'm never gonna tempt you."
00:23:04 Why?
00:23:05 Because there is no evil in my heart.
00:23:06 Remember in 1 Corinthians 13
00:23:08 when he was teaching us about love,
00:23:10 remember he says in chapter 10,
00:23:11 he says, "There hath no temptation
00:23:14 "which is come in a man
00:23:17 "and God will always provide a way of,"
00:23:20 which means a way of escape,
00:23:21 which means that God, this is how good he is.
00:23:25 Whenever the devil builds a temptation around you
00:23:28 that he knows is gonna trap you
00:23:30 because God is the master engineer,
00:23:32 he tells the devil, "I will not okay your plans
00:23:35 "if you don't put any X's in it."
00:23:38 You missed what I just said.
00:23:40 You missed what I just said.
00:23:41 Can I say it again?
00:23:42 Let me use Job for a moment.
00:23:45 Jesus, God says to Satan, he says,
00:23:48 "Have you considered my servant Job?"
00:23:52 Which means that most of you all
00:23:55 have been volunteered by God for the struggle you're in.
00:23:58 God looked at every one of y'all and said,
00:24:07 "Have you considered Alvin?
00:24:09 "Have you considered Calvin?
00:24:11 "Have you considered Ed?
00:24:12 "Have you considered Johnny?
00:24:13 "Have you considered Sarah?
00:24:15 "Have you considered?"
00:24:17 He called you by name.
00:24:19 And then the devil said, "Oh, that's a good idea.
00:24:22 "I would, but you done put a hedge of protection around it."
00:24:28 Devil says, "If you remove the hedge,
00:24:31 "I believe I can get to him."
00:24:32 God says, "All right, hedge removed.
00:24:34 "Go do your thing."
00:24:36 He says, "Oh, by the way, you can touch everything,
00:24:38 "but on the person."
00:24:40 Y'all don't read no Bible.
00:24:42 He says, "On the person himself,
00:24:46 "you can't lay your hand."
00:24:51 He says, "Yeah."
00:24:52 He says, "Watch, watch, watch I make him curse you.
00:24:56 "And if he curses you, you got to kill him."
00:25:00 God says, "All right, let's go."
00:25:02 Lost 10 kids.
00:25:06 (congregation cheering)
00:25:08 10.
00:25:09 All of his children died.
00:25:12 All of his cattle.
00:25:15 He was the richest man in the East.
00:25:16 All of his money.
00:25:17 His wife turned on him and said,
00:25:19 "You ought to curse your God and die."
00:25:21 His friends walked out on him,
00:25:23 and Job stood in the midst of all of that temptation,
00:25:27 knowing that there was an escape.
00:25:30 And he says, "Don't you slay me."
00:25:33 (congregation cheering)
00:25:36 Yet will I trust you.
00:25:42 Can I get somebody to high five somebody
00:25:46 and tell him, "Though he slay me,
00:25:48 "though I'm broke, though I'm sick,
00:25:52 "though I'm lonely, though I'm single,
00:25:56 "yet."

00:26:00 How many of y'all got the kind of praise that says,
00:26:06 "No matter what, whatever my lot,
00:26:09 "thou hast taught me, it is well."
00:26:14 (congregation cheering)
