00:00 I certainly didn't see it at half-time the way we had started the game, but to be fair
00:07 we were in at 0-0 and that was probably as good as it could get for us. We hadn't played
00:12 well in the first half at all. Too slow, never affected Burnley really. By the way, Burnley
00:19 had a couple of half chances, they didn't have many in the first half to be honest.
00:22 But I thought we started the game actually much better than within a minute or two minutes
00:28 we'd given away a penalty kick, which I thought at the time looked soft. I've only seen it
00:32 on the small screen. Maybe once I get more time to look at it I might decide whether
00:37 I think it's one way or the other, but my first early look I thought it looked pretty
00:41 soft. The climax was great. It shows a lot of the things that we've got about the team.
00:49 A bit of resilience, stuck at it, never wilted, had to keep trying to find ways of seeing
00:56 whether we could get a goal and it didn't look as if we were going to. Probably didn't
01:01 play our best today, a lot of our players were nowhere near their levels. But ultimately
01:06 we got three points in the Premier League and these games come and you move on quite
01:12 quickly.
01:13 You've answered a lot of questions about Mbama and his development and his contract
01:21 situation. You've got so much experience in the game, you know how difficult it is for
01:27 young players to play in the Premier League, but you also are a young player and want to
01:35 play him.
01:36 Yes, we do. We do want to play Devine as well. He's got quite a lot of competition. I'm
01:42 only saying this as a question to you boys. I don't know how many 19-year-old centre-forwards
01:50 are playing in the Premier League at any clubs. So it's something which is getting harder.
01:57 It's such a difficult role. The level of the competition to be a centre-forward is really
02:04 high at nearly every club. But I'll tell you what Devine is different from the rest. Devine
02:10 has got a mentality and an attitude as good as any top player because he's so determined,
02:20 works incredibly hard for the team. So we know what we're going to get with Devine.
02:25 What we need him to do is develop in all his actions and his technical ability. But he's
02:30 19 and he's done a great job for us when he came on today as well.
02:34 What's the situation with Jarrod?
02:37 Jarrod had an injury with England. Micky got his injury with Nigeria, with Jamaica. So
02:48 Jarrod is, I hope, not too bad. But he just wasn't ready to play and we couldn't get him
02:56 ready for the game.
02:57 You talked about players going up to their levels today. Is there any specific reason
03:02 for that? Is it about coming back from the international?
03:06 Edson got back at five o'clock on Thursday afternoon, back into London. And Mo as well.
03:14 We knew Edson was really struggling to play today. He was finding it. And he had extra
03:18 time for Mexico in their play-off game against Honduras, I think it was. So for him even
03:26 to get me 60 minutes, I was pleased. I needed him to play. But obviously I think a lot of
03:32 those players... Mo came alive in the last 10 minutes and got us a couple of bits and
03:36 pieces. But I think the boys who have been away in the long hauls, Naif as well, feeling
03:43 it with the Moroccan game as well. So that's what it is. We're finding it can be difficult
03:50 after the international breaks to get them back on best form.
03:54 Mane has got two points, but he's already integrated in. If that happens, would you
04:14 rate his work?
04:15 He's been so good. I actually think today, if I was being honest, he was probably as
04:18 poor as he's played. But I'm putting it down a little bit to international duty. But he's
04:23 still come up with really important goals for us. And today you have to say really important
04:28 assists. And I think he's got it in him. And I think he's getting used to the Premier League.
04:34 I say it quite often about the boys who are in the Premier League. So many of the boys
04:38 who are coming from overseas, it's not an easy thing. I'm sure Burnley, the people who
04:43 watch Burnley, they've got a lot of players who have come over. It's not easy for them
04:47 all to settle in and get used to the levels of the Premier League and the intensity. So
04:51 it's no different for Mo. Paqueta took six months last year to get a bit more used to
04:56 it. And Agard as well. So a few of them have found that. But Mo's done really well. But
05:02 I think today he was a wee bit under. I think a bit to do with the international games.
05:08 Just a word on Thomas, because he got a leg there a couple of weeks ago against Forest.
05:21 I mean, what a spectacular football that maybe you're having today. That was world-class,
05:22 wasn't it?
05:23 Yeah. Look, Thomas scored for the Czech Republic in midweek. He scored today. He scored against
05:26 Forest. So really, he's in a bit of goal-scoring form, Tom. And even the goal he took today,
05:32 I thought he took it really well. He took it from someone who was a bit more confident
05:35 in his finishing. As you know, when he first came, he got, I don't know, did he get ten
05:41 goals in the first season? Did he get ten goals maybe in his first season last year?
05:45 Not so much. But this year, he's certainly, I think he might be up to six goals already.
05:50 Something like that. So it was great. Look, for us to get a winner when it looked as if
05:54 we hadn't really going to play that well, we've come away with three valuable points
06:00 and it keeps us in the mix.
