00:00 Do you ever wonder where our trains go to sleep?
00:02 Turns out they've got a massive home right below the North EDSA area.
00:05 You might have seen the train tracks leading down between Trinoma and Vertis North before.
00:09 Those lead to the cavernous MRT 3 depot built underground.
00:13 Here, the trains go to get their nightly routine done.
00:16 And we don't mean a get ready for bed type thing.
00:18 They undergo routine maintenance from around 10pm to 4am every night.
00:22 What type, level, and frequency of maintenance depends on the schedule given by Sumitomo Corp.
00:27 But usually, trains are given a thorough inspection and cleanup at the depot nightly.
00:31 We got to come along and visit one night,
00:33 seeing the crew and machines making sure our MRT 3 trips are safe and as efficient as possible.
00:38 First, we checked out the light inspection area where the trains come up in tracks that allow crew to check underneath.
00:43 The inspection of interior, exterior, and the underfloor usually takes up to 15 minutes total.
00:48 They also check the electricals up above on a different track.
00:51 Air conditioning is also maintained here so you guys have the crew to thank for a cool ride.
00:55 If they find something off, the train goes for troubleshooting at the technical research section.
00:59 This train had a problem with the PA system not working in one of the carriages
01:02 so they had to split them up to find out what was wrong.
01:05 Thankfully, the problem was solved right away and the two were coupled together again.
01:08 The trains are also given a bath.
01:10 Check out this fun drive-by cleaning station for the train's exterior.
01:13 The crew also makes a more thorough cleanse at this platform.
01:16 The trains are then sent over to the testing tracks to make sure they're working in order
01:20 before being sent out for the day.
01:22 So that was our visit to the MRT 3 depot.
01:24 Thanks to these guys for working overnight for our trains.
