00:00 Donna, the Kelsies are like the first family of football right now and you're the America's
00:07 mom really. So how does this moment in time feel for you and your family? I mean, it's pretty
00:13 surreal. This past year has been a whirlwind and it's, you know, we're very, very fortunate
00:22 and that's all I can say. But I think, I think what, what everybody sees is that they see their
00:28 own family in us. Hopefully they can see, you know, it's very familiar, you know, two brothers
00:36 digging at each other, you know, competing against each other, you know, it's just,
00:42 it's just real life. And I think that's, and it's a lot better watching what's going on
00:46 in their lives that there is going on in the world. So it's a little scary right now. So I think it's
00:54 a nice solace to be able to get involved in right now and just be happy, you know. Absolutely. Where
01:03 are you right now in your home? It looks so beautiful and I love all the family photos.
01:08 Yeah, I'm just in the den. Yeah, I'm in my den and I'm just sitting here at my computer at my desk.
01:13 So I love it. So tell me about Jason and Travis growing up. When did they first pick up a football?
01:20 Were they always really competitive with each other? Oh man, I think I have a picture of a
01:25 football in Jason's hand when he was one year old, sitting outside our first house. So they've been
01:32 throwing around balls. I think that was Travis's first word was ball. No way. Yeah, it was. It,
01:40 it, he just, he had to have the ball wherever it was. He wanted me to pick it up and hand it to
01:45 him. And so they've just always been involved in that. And that's what I tried to do as a parent.
01:51 I tried to support what they were interested in. If it was art, if it was music and Jason and both,
01:58 both Travis and Jason were involved in music, whatever they liked, I tried to support that
02:02 as much as I could because I wanted them to be able to become the person that they wanted to be.
02:07 So it was just mostly support than anything else. It wasn't us dictating. You have to go here,
02:15 be there. You have to, it's like whatever you want to do in life, because if they like what
02:19 they're doing, they will be good at it. Yeah. And you know, it's like, if you tell them you
02:24 have to do this and you've got to practice eight hours and they don't like it, it's not going to
02:29 work. Yeah. Well, it seems like you did a pretty good job, right? Yeah. When you went to parent
02:37 teacher conferences, what did the teacher say about the boys? Okay. Let's see. Well, when they
02:47 were younger, they were in a little bit of skirmishes. Jason really didn't feel that
02:52 whenever he saw something that wasn't fair, he would intervene and take it upon himself.
02:59 But you know, there were times when he did wonderful things, like he was chivalrous
03:04 and he would come to the aid of a young maiden that was being pushed down on the ice,
03:09 things like that. And obviously he's not allowed to take that into his hands, but he did.
03:14 And so there were some things that he just, he fights for the rights of everybody. He wants to
03:21 make sure that everything's fair. Life isn't fair, unfortunately. So yeah, we were doing that,
03:29 but all in all, he was a good student. Travis, on the other hand, just like,
03:33 and he was doing things to make people laugh, like he's still doing today. So.
03:38 So the, the principal called you a couple of times. Yeah, both of them. Yeah.
03:45 Well, listen, I know, you know, the Eagles and Chiefs are playing each other next week.
03:52 So are you going, are we going to get the half and half jacket? What are those moments like for
03:56 you as a mama? Absolutely. You know, I'll be there. I'm going to have a split jacket. I'm going to
04:02 have a split Jersey. I'll have split shoes, split bracelets, split earrings. I'll be there rooting
04:08 both of them on and rooting for the offense and, you know, family's everything to me.
04:13 So one of the reasons why, you know, I'm partnering with Ancestry is because it's so important. I've
04:20 been a client or customer for many years and it's enlightening for me to know some of the new things
04:25 that they have out there to be able to preserve all these memories for future generations. It's
04:31 really kind of cool. You can upload photos, pictures, memories, recipes, even audio, and your
04:38 great, great grandchild will be able to look back and see what you've done and how you affected
04:45 society. So it's pretty cool. That is so awesome. And I know your family is one that we love to
04:50 follow and we will continue to follow. So having Ancestry partnered with you is so great. I mean,
04:55 it makes so much sense, you know? Yeah, the holidays are coming up. What are some Kelsey
05:03 family traditions? What do, what are the responsibilities of the boys? Do they have
05:07 certain roles? No, they basically get up and go to practice on holidays or they're playing a game.
05:14 So that it's, it's been like that for over 20 years. You know, that's the sad thing
05:21 when you're in professional sports, especially football, it's right during the holidays. So
05:26 we're watching them on TV playing sports. So that's kind of the way it is, but it's fun to
05:33 be around them. It's fun to be around the grandkids. And it's so important to share stories
05:38 and reminisce and share memories, you know, so that, you know, my grandchildren can take those
05:45 things and remember them for later on. So it's, it's a good thing to do over the holidays is to
05:50 share and try to find out about, you know, all the stories, all the rumors, all the legends,
05:57 and all the things that happened in the past with their parents and grandparents. So it's kind of
06:02 fun. I love it. Donnie, you seem like such a joyful woman. And you're always so positive.
06:08 You're always so happy with a big, beautiful smile on. Were you ever a strict mom? Are you
06:14 a strict grandma? I'm not really a strict grandma. I'm not there enough to be able to do that. I'm
06:21 usually the one that spoils them. But I can tell you this, that I asked the kids one time,
06:29 it who do you are you afraid of the most when they get angry, and definitely said it was me,
06:35 because it didn't happen often. But when it did get out of my way, I think that's the way it
06:42 usually is. So yeah, it took a took a lot. It really did take to get me really mad because I
06:50 found things funny, you know, broken window, a couch that would go through a floor. You know,
06:57 garage door from a hockey puck, you know, we had to put glass block all through the house. So
07:04 there were a lot of things that you have to be very chill and just have things fall off of you
07:11 because boys are going to be boys. It's their house too, you know, so you can't be too strict.
07:18 Wait, I what is the couch story? Who did who did that?
07:22 I think I don't know somebody pile drove somebody into the couch. And one of the legs went through
07:32 a hardwood floor. And they hit it by moving the couch over it. So we wouldn't see it. But we did
07:38 eventually. Oh, no, underneath there, you know, so you find it. Like, what was this story? One
07:45 thing they never broke was the TV. So they had their priorities. They needed to watch the TV.
07:50 Yeah, typical boys. Yeah. Yeah. Are you getting used to being a public figure? Are you getting
07:55 recognized in public? What is this like for you? Yeah, most of the time people are very respectful.
08:02 They're very kind. What mom doesn't want to hear your kids are great. I mean, it's like,
08:07 it's like, you can't hear enough of that. I think when the when it bothers me is when I'm eating,
08:14 I have to be somewhere like right now. Or when people follow me in the bathroom. And I think all
08:19 parties are mad at that. Yeah. Yeah, nobody. Listen, you want to be able to do your business.
08:25 You don't need someone asking for a selfie. Yeah, yeah. It's like, okay, as soon as we get out of
08:32 here, you're on but not right now. Yeah. Okay, if they make a movie about the Kelsey fam, who plays
08:39 you? Oh, geez. You know, I think the closest person that looks the most similar is Melissa
08:45 Etheridge. You know, her. Isn't she great? Yeah. Yeah, she's pretty cool. That's such a good one.
08:53 Yeah. Uh, have you heard from Travis since his trip to Argentina? He is everywhere. Does he text
09:01 his mama? No, no, Travis does not. He did spend some time with me in Germany, though. One evening
09:08 we had a pizza and just chatted. So it was really nice. I do get to see them when they're on the
09:14 road, even if it's only for a few moments, because they quickly have to get on a plane and leave.
09:19 So that's the tough thing about traveling on the road. So I try to get make home games as much as
09:26 I can because I can spend time with them. So yes, best. Yeah. Were you I mean, you can't get away
09:33 from it. Your son is totally going viral right now over the weekend. Did you see that news? Was
09:38 it sweet for you as a mom to see him with that big smile? It's kind of hard not to see it. It's all
09:45 over the place. But you know what, they're making their own story. And they're telling it their way.
09:51 And so that's, you know, that's as good as it gets. You know, they're they're they're letting
09:55 the whole world see what's happening. So, yeah, you know, I can't say anything except for I'm just
10:03 glad that he's happy. So, yeah. As a mom, what for both of your boys, what was your advice to them
10:11 in terms of love life and finding the one for them? What did you always tell them?
10:17 Zero. I you know, they don't want to hear that from their mother. And I really you know,
10:22 I don't tell them anything. You know, they they you fall in love with who you fall in love with.
10:28 There's nothing you can you can't you can't tell somebody this is a person you need to find.
10:33 It's like the chemistry is there. It's not. What's the one chivalrous thing you were like,
10:38 my boys will absolutely do this. Oh, dear. I don't think I ever I didn't ever do that.
10:48 No way. Oh, I never do it on their own. I never, you know, brief them on how to act with girls.
10:58 I just treat them with respect, like you would your mother. And that's about it. That's about
11:05 the only thing I said. I love that. You're such a chill mom, Donna, can I join your family?
11:10 Would you like to offer Donna? I mean, I was told a million things growing up. I love how easy.
11:19 No, it's, you know, they have to find their own way. You know, if I saw something that was really
11:27 bad, and they were heading down the wrong path, and I would say something, but yeah, really,
11:32 you know, they had a lot of great people that they could depend on not only their parents,
11:37 extended family, uncles, aunts, they had families within the city that were just amazing sports
11:46 moms and dads that helped raise them. They had teachers, they had coaches, they had so many
11:52 individuals in their life that they watched. That's how you you become the person that you are,
11:58 you watch the actions of the people that are around you. And that's how I think that's what
12:04 they did. They watched and saw how we acted. We were very inclusive, we invited everybody into
12:09 our family. That's the way they are, they can get along with anybody, it doesn't matter what race,
12:13 what you know how they grew up, what economic, social path, you know, group they're in,
12:21 they can relate to anybody. So I'm very grateful that they had that experience. So
12:27 that's so beautiful. You guys are so down to earth and so cool. But with all the boys success,
12:31 is there one material thing that your boys have given you that stands out in your mind that meant
12:37 a lot? I think the things that I'm more interested in than anything, it's not, it's not physical
12:47 things, but it's memories. And they give me memories with travel, and being able to do things
12:54 with them, like go to the SBs, or, or things like that. It's, it's moments of time that are special
13:00 to them. And I get to enjoy. And that's what I appreciate the most is that they, they want me
13:07 around, not 100% of the time, but there are times in their life, when they're happy, their mom's
13:13 there. And I'm glad that I can share things with them. Oh, I love that. Well, your family is so
13:19 beautiful. And I so appreciate your openness and your lovingness to the whole world. I think we can
13:25 all feel it and see it in you. And then also in your sons, which is really so touching. And I'm
13:30 so glad Ancestry has partnered with you and vice versa. It's been a great, it's been a great
13:36 partnership. And one of the neat things that they can do is there's a lot of archives that they can
13:40 get to like the National Archives. And they can find things that the normal individual can't find.
13:49 They found 179 page pension document on my great great grandfather who was in the
13:54 Civil War in the Union. And they have the ability to do that because they are the experts. And so
14:02 it's it's really neat to be able to partner with them and to see how knowledgeable and
14:10 the wealth of information that they have out there.
