00:00 I felt so worthless and I was so embarrassed to be your father.
00:05 To tell you the truth.
00:06 Sylvester Stallone is opening up about a hard time in his life.
00:10 The 77-year-old actor sat down with his two eldest daughters, Sophia and Sistine, on their
00:16 podcast Unwaxed, and he shared what it felt like not getting many acting gigs in the early
00:21 2000s, when they were just little girls.
00:24 I felt so worthless and I was so embarrassed to be your father.
00:30 To tell you the truth.
00:32 Because you didn't even know what I did basically for a living.
00:35 We saw you in Spy Kids.
00:36 We saw you as a toy maker.
00:37 What does my father do for a living?
00:40 He just wanders around looking depressed.
00:44 Sylvester's daughters also recalled the "depressing time" their dad went through while detailing
00:48 how he spent his days.
00:50 So for those eight years, when we were growing up and you weren't working, that killed you.
00:56 And what you did was you'd go into the movie theater, lock yourself in there for 10, 12,
01:02 maybe more hours a day, and just watch film.
01:06 And when you explained in the beginning of your documentary how when you were lost, you
01:11 didn't know who you were, you wanted something or someone to look for, some guidance, you'd
01:17 go to the movie theater and you'd stay there all day.
01:19 And I just thought that was such an interesting comparison.
01:22 I said, maybe you were doing the same thing.
01:24 You reverted back to the way you were when you were a child, looking for an answer.
01:28 You're a little too perceptive.
01:29 I guess you go back to it.
01:30 We're half you.
01:31 No, I'm guessing.
01:32 Maybe you go back to that womb.
01:35 That's what I'm saying.
01:36 I think you were subconsciously trying to find yourself again.
01:39 That's the only solace I could find.
01:40 I felt so useless.
01:43 Really useless.
01:44 You've been at the top.
01:45 Wow, that was a rough time.
01:48 So I can, in one way, people say, oh, I'm glad it happened.
01:54 No, I'm not glad it happened.
01:56 But it made me a much better performer and much more sensitive because I realized this
02:06 is what life is.
02:08 This is what people, they don't have this, you know, happy Hollywood ending.
02:14 The Rocky franchise star, who shares Sofia, Sistine, and a third daughter, Scarlett, with
02:20 wife Jennifer Flavin, also revealed how much they all meant to him during such a difficult
02:25 time in his career.
02:26 I realized people that you thought were your friends are not your friends.
02:32 When the good times go away, that's when you find out your family is so important.
02:38 Because I'm telling you, the ship sailed on me.
02:41 It was pretty bad.
02:42 It was pretty bad.
02:44 But I took all that in.
02:46 And I thought, you know, if this is it, I'm done.
02:50 And I thought I was definitely done.
02:52 The phone wasn't ringing.
02:53 It was done.
02:54 And I was so embarrassed because people did not understand Rocky V. Rocky V was about
03:02 one of the more real situations that you're so desperate to not be a failure for your
03:10 family that Rocky basically gave up his family because he wanted to get glory again, even
03:15 if it was through another man, right?
03:17 That he for, you know, his son, he gave up his wife, he was this and that.
03:23 And I wasn't I was not smart enough to realize that that's not what people wanted to see.
03:30 Because that's what happens, right?
03:32 You know, that's a little too real, right?
03:36 And I said, if I could just go back and do one more, because I never thought I'd ever
03:42 do another movie again.
03:43 But in my fantasy, I want to do Rocky Balboa, which is about loss, grief, which is the hardest
03:52 thing in the world to live with girls.
03:53 I swear to you.
03:56 Oh, shit.
03:57 It's it's hard.
04:06 The Stallone family are always there for each other and always seem to have a good time
04:09 together.
04:10 AXIS Hollywood chatted with the fam ahead of their new series, The Family Stallone,
04:14 back in May.
04:15 And Sylvester's daughters recalled their very first memory of their dad.
04:19 The name of the game is Stallone's Uncensored.
04:22 Get it?
04:23 Got it.
04:24 Girls, what was your earliest memory of me as your father?
04:28 Ooh, earliest.
04:29 Time's up.
04:30 Thank you.
04:31 Next question.
04:32 I think for me, one of the earliest memories is literally when I was like, I don't know,
04:36 two years old and he put a golf club in my hand.
04:39 I just like remember you handing me this giant, giant thing.
04:42 Very good.
04:43 And I can't remember what it was, but it was a golf club.
04:46 Yeah, exactly.
04:47 You?
04:48 When you made me read like a poem, you're filming it and you're on that old recorder
04:54 and then you'd replay it.
04:55 You're like, you didn't pronounce that word correctly.
04:57 That's your earliest?
04:58 It was from so long ago.
05:01 What are your fond memories?
05:02 My earliest memory was...
05:03 A tape recorder and a golf club.
05:04 Maybe this morning.
05:05 This morning?
05:06 Yeah, that's my earliest.
05:07 I don't know.
05:08 Your fondest memory is you sitting in the tree going...
05:13 No, earliest, right?
05:14 Earliest.
05:15 Oh, that was a cute photo.
05:16 Oh, when you were sitting in the tree with him.
05:19 Oh yeah, I remember that.
05:20 You put me in a tree and you left me up there.
05:21 That's right.
05:22 It was beautiful.
05:23 Who is the peacemaker in the family?
05:26 Mom, Dad, no.
05:27 Mom, no.
05:28 Dad, yes.
05:29 I think Dad.
05:30 I don't know.
05:31 I think both.
05:32 I think both.
05:33 Rambo is the peacemaker.
05:34 Definitely.
05:35 I think both.
05:36 You have no idea how tough she is.
05:37 All right, I'll ask a question.
05:38 Go for it.
05:39 Out of us girls, who's Dad's favorite?
05:41 Now, this is a trick question.
05:43 It's a trick question because every single day he says, "I have a new favorite."
05:48 Who's the favorite today?
05:49 Yeah, who's today?
05:50 Who's the favorite?
05:51 Be honest.
05:52 Don't say me.
05:53 Don't say Billy.
05:54 Don't say Billy.
05:55 You.
05:56 No, no.
05:57 All out of them?
05:58 I'm not saying that.
05:59 Are you crazy?
06:00 No, you're going to do it today.
06:01 Are you armed?
06:02 Anybody armed?
06:03 Okay, my favorite today is ...
06:04 Oh, you can't.
06:05 That's me.
06:06 Do it.
06:07 Come on.
06:08 That's me.
06:09 I'm taking a fifth.
06:10 All right.
06:11 There's no chance I'm answering the question.
06:12 We all looked at him like this.
06:13 Is it my turn?
06:14 They're all like this.
06:15 I know.
06:16 Pick me.
06:17 Pick me.
06:18 Billy.
06:19 I was so sure it was going to be you.
06:20 All right, Scarlett, go.
06:21 His daughter, Billy.
06:22 Okay.
06:23 Okay.
06:24 I'm taking a fifth.
06:25 All right.
06:26 There's no chance I'm answering the question.
06:27 We all looked at him like this.
06:28 I know.
06:29 Pick me.
06:30 Pick me.
06:31 Billy.
06:32 I was so sure it was going to be you.
06:33 All right, Scarlett, go.
06:34 His daughter, Billy.
06:35 Okay.
06:36 Okay.
06:36 (upbeat music)
