00:10 >> No, I mean, I only had a quick chat with the guys that only came in this morning.
00:17 But yeah, him, Romero, didn't seem to be any issues from what I understand.
00:22 I think, as you said, there was some concerns, but
00:26 from what the lads have told me, everything's fine.
00:29 >> [INAUDIBLE]
00:39 >> Yeah, look, I kind of looked at Gio really well before I got here,
00:47 both here at Tottenham and at his spells at other clubs.
00:51 And you can see, yeah, he does have certain qualities.
00:54 Look, he's had a disrupted season for us.
00:56 I mean, he's had a few injuries.
00:57 He hasn't really had a clean run at it.
00:59 He's one of a number of players where that's happened to.
01:02 But you can see, technically, he's a very creative player.
01:07 He works hard for the team.
01:09 And as I said, he'll get an opportunity over the next few weeks to hopefully come
01:13 in and make an impact.
01:14 >> [INAUDIBLE]
01:24 >> No, I haven't had an issue with Gio at all.
01:34 He's, like I said, he's, he had a really strong pre-season,
01:39 then he got injured against Fulham, which was his first start.
01:42 And that kind of set him back for quite a while and
01:44 sort of he's been working his way back to fitness.
01:47 I don't, I haven't had any issues with any of the players in terms of frustrations.
01:52 All of them know that they're in the same boat.
01:54 They'll work hard at training.
01:55 They'll get the opportunity when it comes.
01:57 And when it comes, it's up to them to sort of put in performances and
02:02 play at a level that continues to allow them to be part of it.
02:05 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:15 >> Yeah, and what?
02:21 2008, you know?
02:23 In 2008, I was, I think, maybe coaching Brisbane Royal, mate.
02:27 So, fair to say I wasn't around.
02:29 And really, if you think that that's kind of coming across my desk,
02:34 I think people are keeping a fair bit away from me at the moment because of what's
02:39 really important, and that is, we've got a big game on Sunday that,
02:43 obviously, with issues we've got around the team tomorrow, that's where my focus is.
02:48 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:54 >> Yeah, and I think I've just answered it.
02:56 It's just not across my desk, mate.
02:59 For me to give you an answer would mean for me to sit down with whoever's doing
03:03 the investigation, whoever's got all the information here, you know how many hours?
03:06 I don't know if you've spent any hours doing that, but I don't have that time in
03:09 my day to be sort of assessing those kind of issues.
03:13 And as I've always said, with those kind of things, and
03:16 this is not just about this issue, any of those issues, there are people responsible
03:21 who, as you said, maybe I'm the spokesman, but
03:22 I'm the spokesman for the football club in terms of the football.
03:25 I would hate it, absolutely, if you got a lawyer out here and
03:29 he started talking about what formation we're gonna play on the weekend.
03:32 So I'll just keep my mouth shut with those things, not because of any other
03:34 reason that, like I said, I respect the space that other people are in and
03:39 now I'm in.
03:40 If you've got real questions about that,
03:41 then there's probably better people to ask than me.
03:45 Tom.
03:47 [INAUDIBLE]
03:55 Yeah, but I think that's the case irrespective of whether Matt is here or
04:08 not.
04:09 I mean, that's why we brought Brendan to the club.
04:10 I really think he's got some really great attributes to
04:16 become a real sort of attacking sort of avenue for us.
04:22 Like I said, he scored last week.
04:23 Again, he's had a bit of a disrupted sort of introduction to life here.
04:27 He's had a couple of injuries that have set him back.
04:30 But he's healthy now, which is great.
04:33 And not just him, but all the attacking players,
04:36 the way we play, there's a real sort of emphasis on them getting into those
04:42 areas we needed to get into and sort of either create or score goals.
04:47 And I think Brendan, like I said, has those attributes.
04:50 He just needs to sort of now get a run of games where he can show what he can do.
04:54 [INAUDIBLE]
05:03 Yeah, that's right.
05:03 Yeah, so like I said, we were kind of looking for an extra sort of
05:09 attacking sort of play.
05:10 You can play wide, you can play centrally as well.
05:13 We've shown that with Wales during the week.
05:15 So I think that gives us some good options in those areas.
05:20 Yeah.
05:20 [INAUDIBLE]
05:42 Yeah, I mean, I think we've scored a fair few after 90.
05:45 So the ledge is pretty even, I think.
05:47 So no, I don't think that's--
05:50 I think there's been circumstances.
05:51 I mean, we conceded two against Tottenham, but--
05:56 sorry, against Chelsea, but we were down to nine men.
05:57 So there's a fair correlation there.
06:00 And the last game, look, the last game, we didn't play well.
06:05 We didn't deserve to win that game.
06:06 Even if we had have won it, I wasn't happy with the way we played.
06:09 That was more of an issue for me than the fact that we conceded late.
06:12 We just didn't-- it was probably the first game this year where we just
06:16 didn't look like the team I want us to be.
06:19 And some of that's understandable, because obviously,
06:21 after the Chelsea game, we had to change a fair bit of the team.
06:23 And there's guys coming in who hadn't played for quite a while.
06:27 Yeah, we scored early.
06:28 We kind of went into our shells a little bit, I thought.
06:32 And analyzing the game, like I said, walked away disappointed.
06:37 We lost, obviously, particularly in the way we did,
06:39 because like I said, after 90 minutes, we were still ahead.
06:41 But I didn't like the way the team looked.
06:43 That was more important for me.
06:45 That's the stuff we need to sort of address moving forward.
06:48 Jon.
06:49 [INAUDIBLE]
07:02 Yeah, look, I mean, like I said, whether it's him or anyone else,
07:06 they're here, they'll get an opportunity.
07:08 And I think that's all you can do.
07:12 It's all you can offer.
07:14 I don't think his national team form really
07:18 is a direct correlation to here, just like anybody else's.
07:22 They'll get an opportunity.
07:23 GL will get an opportunity.
07:24 Others will get an opportunity, particularly
07:26 over the next few weeks, because like I said,
07:28 we're down on numbers.
07:29 We've got a fair few games between now
07:33 and sort of the new year, where we won't get anyone really
07:37 back of significance in that time,
07:38 apart from probably Romero, who will be
07:40 available after the city game.
07:41 So GL and the other guys will get that opportunity.
07:46 [INAUDIBLE]
08:03 No, because like I said, I guess from my perspective,
08:09 I just--
08:11 this is the time where I'm kind of getting an opportunity
08:13 to make all those assessments, because I think
08:16 if you lump it all into one and sort of look
08:18 at previous sort of exposure here at the club
08:23 and lump it into this, well, then that's
08:25 not really relevant to me.
08:26 It's more about what I see from now on
08:28 and how the players feel themselves about playing
08:34 the football that I want and whether they see themselves
08:36 fitting into that.
08:37 And also with Gio, like I said, he
08:40 has had a couple of disruptions.
08:41 I mean, like I said, he had a good preseason.
08:44 Fulham game was early in the year.
08:45 I started him in that to give him an opportunity,
08:47 because I think he earned it.
08:48 Then he has a setback.
08:49 Then he's got to sort of work his way back into the team.
08:52 But I think with all of them, it's--
08:55 as I said before, it's not--
08:57 it hasn't happened by design, but I'm certainly
08:59 going to get a good look at everyone.
09:00 So there's no real reason why, if people sort of feel like
09:06 they can make an impact over the next period of time,
09:08 I'm sure they'll get that opportunity.
09:10 [INAUDIBLE]
09:16 Yeah, no, I mean, I--
09:18 not specifically apart from in preseason,
09:21 where I spoke to most of the lads, but there's
09:23 constant feedback there about how we play
09:26 and where I see the guys sort of fitting in with that.
09:30 And Gio has no--
09:31 sort of no difference to that.
09:32 And as I said, it's up to sort of all players now to--
09:37 when they get their opportunity to show what they can do,
09:40 whether that's starting or coming on.
09:42 Because sometimes when you're coming on
09:45 for that last half hour, as we've seen with other players,
09:47 you've got a real chance to make an impact
09:49 and then sort of further your case for more game time.
09:53 Neil, do you want to finish this off?
09:54 Just to answer, I don't know how well you know it,
09:56 but that is the part, once you admire about each style,
10:00 so you've got so many guts coming back to the Premier League
10:03 and proving--
10:04 I mean, he didn't need to prove himself to come back again.
10:06 Yeah, I'm sure he didn't need to prove himself.
10:08 I think maybe others, but I think it's just--
10:10 yeah, look, I mean, I haven't come across--
10:13 but I've been a great admirer of his coaching,
10:16 again, because he's a guy who's always challenged himself,
10:20 whether that was in his home country or--
10:24 he obviously came over here and the experience here
10:28 didn't deter him in any way.
10:29 He didn't lose any belief in who he is as a manager.
10:32 And I think sometimes it's easy to put a line through people
10:36 because it doesn't work out in sort of one experience.
10:39 But for all of us managers, I guess we all go through that.
10:42 It's how you respond to that.
10:44 And he's been first class.
10:46 You can see he's turned Villa around very, very quickly
10:49 into--
10:50 you remember what position they were when he took over.
10:53 And they've been very, very consistent.
10:56 And he's got a--
10:57 he's always-- when I looked at his teams,
11:00 they've always been very well organized, very well
11:02 structured, clear identity, which is--
11:04 it's always the things I look for,
11:06 because that tells me that there's a coach there.
11:08 Apart from being a manager, there's actually a coach there.
11:11 Because when you see a clear identity in a team--
11:13 and he's transferred that across three different countries.
11:17 Yeah, he's a quality manager.
11:20 [INAUDIBLE]
11:26 Look, again, we kind of try and prepare for every team
11:30 in terms of what potential threats they have.
11:33 And the key for us is, how can we sort of negate that,
11:38 as you said, but within our own style of football.
11:40 We don't want to change.
11:41 Also, we're still very much still trying to build here.
11:45 That's still got to--
11:47 as I said, I think to the first question,
11:49 we're still in the phase where I've got to make sure
11:52 that we stay on course.
11:54 Don't get-- we can't get distracted
11:57 by what's before us right now.
11:59 It's about where we want to be at a certain point in time.
12:03 And good results can take you away from that.
12:06 And bad results can take you away from that.
12:09 And for us, we've just got to stay on course.
12:12 OK, thanks, guys.
12:13 Thank you.
