00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 Switch Ports That Were Too Unbearable
00:14 to Play.
00:22 Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:27 the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:30 Super Mario 3D All-Stars
00:41 The 3D All-Stars collection should have been a shoe-in for Nintendo.
00:45 Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy, all playable on the go on my Switch?
00:52 Sign me up!
00:53 So what went wrong?
01:03 Well Galaxy turned out completely fine, still beautiful as it was in 2007.
01:08 Though rough around the edges, 64 was alright as well.
01:11 The real problem was with Sunshine.
01:14 Whatever emulation Nintendo was using caused some areas of the game to expose their debug
01:19 appearances.
01:21 Other players had problems with the lack of proper camera control settings and being unable
01:25 to play Sunshine with a GameCube controller.
01:28 Granted, these were fixed later on, but man, it was rough, especially with that limited
01:34 time release.
01:41 Civilization VI
01:51 For a game as complex and menu-heavy as Civilization VI, one would wonder why anyone in their right
01:56 mind would play this on the Switch.
01:59 Even if you spent some time getting a grasp on the confusing layout, you were not prepared
02:04 to see the character models.
02:06 Good lord, the character models are archaic.
02:15 Why does Alexander the Great, Gandhi, and Cleopatra look like one of those early 90s
02:21 CGI tests?
02:22 Yes, the gameplay is fine, but part of Civ VI's charm is in the presentation, and without
02:29 the proper lighting and shadowing, it just looks ugly beyond all reason.
02:33 Stick to the PC version, folks.
02:40 Danganronpa V3 - Killing Harmony
02:48 Now it should not be hard for a visual novel game like Danganronpa to run on the Switch.
02:53 It's a bunch of PNGs getting slapped around a 3D environment, it's a visual novel.
02:58 And yet, Killing Harmony somehow runs like absolute garbage.
03:08 We could forgive the bizarre lag and transitions, but the audio is just unacceptable considering
03:13 the brilliant music Danganronpa is known for.
03:16 This simply isn't the way anyone should experience Killing Harmony, and with inconsistent
03:21 crashing piled onto the piss-poor sound, you're better playing this on another platform.
03:34 Ninja Gaiden - Master Collection
03:44 A game like Ninja Gaiden requires top performance for users to fully enjoy what it has to offer.
03:50 This is an intense action game, which means the player is going to need a smooth framerate,
03:54 accurate controls, and almost no lag.
03:57 The Master Collection fails to recognize this when it comes to the Switch, though.
04:07 While the first Ninja Gaiden plays just fine, Sigma 2 and Razor's Edge are borderline
04:14 unplayable.
04:15 Critics and players reported obscene pixelation and resolution (in both docked and handheld
04:21 mode, by the way) and a highly inconsistent framerate.
04:24 Trust us, the 3D Ninja Gaiden games are freaking stellar, but these are not meant for Switch
04:31 under any circumstance.
04:40 Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night
04:51 Whether the folks at ArtPlay fixed the game now is within the eye of the beholder at this
04:55 point.
04:56 However, many Switch owners could not forgive the botched launch of Ritual of the Night.
05:09 This is a 2.5D action platformer that does not demand a lot from your hardware.
05:14 The game could run on a Wii if it wanted to.
05:17 So why was it acceptable to throw it on the Switch with abhorrent frame dips, horrible
05:22 input lag, and a significant downgrade in visuals?
05:26 Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night was just another example of how not all plastic boxes
05:38 are created equal.
05:43 The Outer Worlds - And in case Bloodstained wasn't evident for you, The Outer Worlds
05:59 will make you consider the case closed.
06:02 In all honesty, this shooter RPG shouldn't have made its way to Switch at all.
06:16 There are simply too many taxing elements between character animations, scripts, and
06:21 the like for the Switch to handle.
06:23 But sure, let's go ahead and ship out a game that looks and plays way worse than any
06:27 of the other versions we've put on other platforms.
06:30 Because you know, that makes so much sense.
06:36 Pillars of Eternity - This isn't another excuse to dogpile on Obsidian.
06:49 Obsidian does great work.
06:51 No, this was the fault of Versus Evil, the publisher who handled the port of Pillars
06:56 of Eternity.
06:57 Though it generated almost the same level of praise critically, players could not forgive
07:02 Pillars of Eternity's frequent crashing and how badly the game chugged.
07:15 It simply was never meant to be on the Switch.
07:18 To the credit of Versus Evil, the company attempted to fix the bugs, but in the two
07:22 years they tried and failed, the game just got worse and worse.
07:27 Seeing how Pillars hasn't been updated since 2021, it's safe to say they've moved on.
07:33 And we probably should too.
07:42 Ark Survival Evolved - If performance holds a significant weight on your purchase, then
07:56 Ark Survival Evolved shouldn't be anywhere on your shopping list.
08:00 Just nowhere.
08:01 Not on Switch, not on anything else.
08:04 The game simply cannot run decently on any platform, and the Switch port was, well, it's
08:11 still the worst of the bunch.
08:20 From the blurry textures and god-awful rendering, you would think the game was still in development.
08:25 No, this is a finished game, and it had to sacrifice a lot of the visuals just so it
08:31 can take advantage of these long load times.
08:34 Like we said, Ark barely runs on most platforms, and this was just totally unplayable.
08:44 WWE 2K18 - You want to know the funny thing about WWE 2K18?
09:01 This not counting 2K Battlegrounds, but this was the first, last, and only time the WWE
09:09 2K series was ever put on the Switch.
09:12 Yes, this port was so bad that 2K hasn't even bothered to try and get the series on
09:19 the Switch ever again.
09:30 The slowdown was so awful that it made the original PlayStation look like a next-gen
09:34 console.
09:35 Character models looked nothing like their real-life counterparts due to the severe visual
09:39 downgrades needed to get the game to run, and the audio glitches were just hilarious.
09:45 An executive saw this and gave this a stamp of approval, ready to ship, let's send it
09:51 out, it's good to go.
09:53 To this day, if you want to play a WWE game, just go get 2K22 or 23.
09:59 Just go and get it.
10:01 The Switch is never going to see this series ever again, and it's all for the better, quite
10:06 frankly.
10:07 Besides, the newer games are way better than this was.
10:10 You should really go play 2K22 and 23.
10:18 Mortal Kombat 1 If you thought the Switch port for MK11 was
10:31 bad, have you seen MK1?
10:34 This is way worse.
10:37 Here's the funniest part too, MK1 is a lot smaller than MK11.
10:42 We weren't expecting the Switch version to hit the same level of visual fidelity as the
10:45 PS5, XS, and PC.
10:48 However, we weren't expecting the most expressionless, plastic-looking character models seen in the
10:53 modern age of gaming.
11:03 MK11 looks like smooth mannequins made of a dark tomato paste.
11:07 MK11 ran bad because of how much it was doing between Towers of Time, The Crypt, and yes,
11:13 the story mode.
11:14 So what's MK1's excuse?
11:16 Oh, story mode and invasions.
11:19 Was the shrine too much to handle too?
11:21 There's just not enough here to justify the terrible quality on display.
11:25 Why didn't NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. abandon the platform?
11:29 Oh yeah, money.
11:32 It's all about the Benjamins.
11:40 What's the worst Switch port you've experienced?
11:43 Did it make our list?
11:44 Let us know down in the comments and subscribe to Mojo Plays for more Switch coverage.
