Lamborghini design is extraordinary and inimitable, with today’s models born from more than six decades of inspirational and future-proof originality. But as grounded within Lamborghini heritage and its brand DNA is performance, with aerodynamics a central and ongoing innovation within Lamborghini’s design studio and R&D teams.
The video “Beyond design, mastering the air” celebrates the mutual relationship between Lamborghini design and aerodynamics, explained by Design Director Mitja Borkert and Ugo Riccio, Coordinator of Aerodynamics, Aero Acoustics and Vehicle Thermal Management. They ponder the relentless inspiration and drive, both personal and embedded within Lamborghini company DNA, that combines art and science to create masterpieces such as the new Lamborghini Revuelto.

00:03 When I'm sitting in front of a white piece of paper,
00:16 for me, in terms of inspiration, it's
00:17 coming from anything-- music, a car that I like,
00:21 a sketch that I have in memory.
00:26 We have mastered the art of speed through our design.
00:30 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33 We are Lamborghini, and we want to look ahead.
00:35 So we want to design a car that is opening
00:38 the door towards the future.
00:39 So you push yourself, sketching, thinking, researching
00:43 the right design direction.
00:44 As we did on the Ravuelto, we have
00:46 to work at having the perfect partner, which
00:49 is the aerodynamical engineer.
00:52 The Ravuelto is a masterpiece of integration
00:55 between design and aerodynamics.
00:57 Everything on the car is a balanced interplay
01:00 between form and performance.
01:01 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:05 Performance and design is that the surfaces have tension.
01:08 They are not just flat.
01:09 Also, when you study the Ravuelto,
01:11 you can see among the sharp lines that
01:13 are characterizing Lamborghini, you can see muscles.
01:17 You can see surfaces that are a little bit more human.
01:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:22 The airflow passes through the front fender
01:25 and reaches the side radiator.
01:28 This also thanks to the door handle that is itself
01:31 an aerodynamic surface.
01:33 The roof is specifically optimized for aerodynamics
01:37 to reduce the drag and to bring the air
01:39 towards the rear efficient wing.
01:43 The wing has a three position--
01:45 closer position for maximum efficiency,
01:47 intermediate position for maximum speed,
01:50 and the higher position for the maximum handling and downforce.
01:54 Our personal passions are reflected in our daily quest
01:57 to improve.
01:58 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:03 Rhythm and design is fundamental.
02:06 One rhythm is that the nose, the body side, the rear,
02:10 everything is connected with one shape.
02:13 The details are like in the painting
02:15 or like in the music at the right moment at the right point.
02:18 So in the end of the day, there is
02:20 a lot of connection between music and design.
02:22 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:24 We set the trends.
02:26 Design and performance are our DNA.
