00:00 I'm Mark Lawson and after 50 years I'm retiring from NCT. I first started work September 3rd
00:09 1973 at Trevbridge Works as an apprentice fitter. I was doing my O-Levels at school
00:15 and I always had an interest in engineering. At that point my mother was working here and
00:20 my mum said have you got a job sorted out yet? I said no. Well she said I've got you
00:24 an interview at NCT Monday morning and here I am 50 years later. My family has worked
00:30 here on and off since the mid 1920s. My grandmother was one of the first conductors on the job
00:38 so always been a Lawson working at NCT. Working on buses years ago it was more labour intensive.
00:45 Buses were dirtier underneath with oil leaks, smoke. Buses are really clean today. I've
00:51 been proud working for NCT because the job I've done there's been a sense of I've really
00:57 achieved something. To be out and about and seeing NCT buses still driving down, boring
01:03 my wife to death by saying I've worked on that one, I've worked on that one and she
01:08 gets fed up hearing about it. I'll certainly miss working at NCT. I've got a lot of friends
01:14 here, I've made a lot of friends over the years. Sometimes it's not been so good getting
01:18 up at 5.30 in the morning on a cold frosty February but all in all I've really enjoyed
01:23 it. I wouldn't have been here 50 years otherwise.
