00:00 Some groups were alarmed by the increasing number of teenage pregnancies in the country
00:05 that was confirmed by the government.
00:08 Aside from the effect on the life of a young woman who is pregnant,
00:12 it also affects the economy.
00:15 And Ivan Mayrina was the one who was shocked.

00:20 At the end of 2023, the Philippine population is expected to reach 115 million.
00:27 This is 1.6% increase, but it is slower compared to the 3% increase of the population
00:33 in the past decades.
00:35 The fertility rate of a mother's child is also decreasing,
00:38 which is now at 2%.
00:40 But if in half of the population, the population is decreasing rapidly,
00:43 this is bad for the young.
00:46 The age of 14 is decreasing, according to the Commission on Population and Development.
00:50 This is alarming, according to the non-government organization or NGO,
00:53 Save the Children Philippines.
00:55 The number of teenage pregnancies is increasing.
00:58 The number of 0 to 14 is increasing.
01:02 The number of people who get pregnant early.
01:05 We know the implications of those ages,
01:09 if they get pregnant early.
01:11 This is a big problem and alarming, because when we think of children,
01:15 10 years old, 9 years old, they should still be enjoying their childhood,
01:19 their childhood with playing, with studying,
01:22 but now they are forced to be parents.
01:24 According to the Save the Children Philippines,
01:26 based on the study of the National Economic and Development Authority,
01:29 the loss of our economy is reaching 33 billion pesos per year
01:34 because of teen pregnancy.
01:36 But aside from the loss of the economy,
01:38 it can be considered as a crime for every single incident
01:41 of a child getting pregnant early,
01:43 which is clear that the child is not yet in the age of sexual consent,
01:46 which is 16 years old, yet still sad.
01:48 Usually, the child's own child is behind the abuse.
01:51 In some areas where we work with, sometimes,
01:54 even families force them to just cohabitate,
01:58 but actually in our law, this is not allowed.
02:01 And the perpetrators should be caught.
02:04 Part of the Philippine Development Plan,
02:06 the Administration's plan, Marcos,
02:08 is to ensure that there is a possibility of being productive.
02:10 The most common in the country's population
02:12 when it comes to the working age, 15 to 64 years old.
02:16 But to ensure this,
02:18 should we also save many teens from the abuse
02:21 resulting from early pregnancy?
02:24 Imagine if everyone is working,
02:26 everyone is contributing rather than receiving help from the government.
02:33 Our contribution to economic development is more positive.
02:37 A bill to abolish the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Bill
02:41 has already been passed in the House of Representatives,
02:43 but it has been passed in the Senate, and while waiting for it,
02:46 the most important thing for every family is to take care of their children
02:51 and ensure that a safe place for them is provided.
