01:23 Over the past week, repeated attempts to rescue the workers had failed owing to several challenges
01:28 including the topography and the nature of rocks in the area.
01:32 The 41 workers have been stuck since November 12 after a portion of the tunnel caved in.
01:37 Officials said that all workers are safe and are being supplied food and water through
01:41 steel pipes that have been drilled into the opening.
01:45 The under-construction tunnel is part of the ambitious Char Dham project, which is a national
01:49 infrastructure initiative to enhance connectivity to the Hindu pilgrimage sites of Badrinath,
01:54 Edarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
01:56 The tunnel, which was 4.5 km long, was being constructed from Silkiara to Dandalgaon on
02:02 the Yamunotri National Highway.
02:04 The tunnel would reduce the distance from Uttarkashi to Yamunotri by around 26 km.
02:22 The tunnel is also being used as a transport hub for the Indian Railways.
