00:00 I'm going to read chapter twelve and I want to illumine for our understanding just verse number fifteen. Numbers chapter twelve, verse number fifteen.
00:21 Can you see me there?
00:33 Numbers chapter twelve, verse fifteen.
00:40 So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days and the people did not move on until she was brought back.
00:51 Let's read verse number fifteen together with uplifted voices.
00:55 So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days and the people did not move on until she was brought back.
01:05 You may be seated.
01:07 I'm going to preach for a little while today using as a subject, "I'm just trying to move on."
01:16 I'm just trying to move on. Would you look at the person beside you and tell them, "Would you please pray for me?"
01:24 All I'm trying to do is to move on.
01:32 I'm just trying to move on.
01:36 Let me just turn myself in before you hear about it later.
01:39 I am probably the worst golfer you have ever seen in your life.
01:48 I am not Tiger Woods, I'm Kitten Woods.
01:52 I'm the worst golfer you've ever seen.
01:55 So as a consequence, I think it was just a set up to make a mockery of me that Steve Harvey brought me to be a part of his celebrity golf tournament.
02:06 While I'm there, a young lady walked up to me and said, "Pastor Bryant, I got a book that I wrote that I need you to help me get out.
02:17 I need you to share it with people all over our community."
02:22 I said, "Alright, bring it to me."
02:26 She said, "It's in my car, I'll be right back."
02:30 She ran to her car and came back and brought me the book and my jaw hit the ground.
02:37 The name of the book is entitled, "My Parents Are Drug Addicts."
02:45 My parents are drug addicts.
02:48 I'm looking at her with bewilderment.
02:52 She said, "Pastor Bryant, think about it.
02:56 There's rehab, there is group therapy, there is support groups, all for addicts.
03:08 But there is nothing in place for their children."
03:16 Nobody ever considers the psychological trauma that is inflicted on the children of addicts who come home to missing video games.
03:31 Who come home to find their piggy banks broken into.
03:39 Nobody follows up with the children who have to call 911 because they don't know whether their parent is dead or alive.
03:51 Nobody has ever put into consideration that they come home from school to find their parent nodding off in the living room.
04:03 Those children eventually grow up to be adults who have to swallow hard and try not to get nauseous because they still remember the stench.
04:21 They try to adjust and suppress but the ghost still sits heavily on their shoulders.
04:32 Brothers and sisters, ladies and gentlemen, truth be told, there are lacerations of trauma on all of our backs.
04:44 While they may not be recognizable to the naked eye, it's like ragged old spaghetti, even if you can't see it, it's still there.
04:55 When you're dealing with trauma, it takes a lot for the brain to process and all the more for the heart to purge.
05:06 Your trauma is monogrammed on the side of the silver bullet that ranges from abuse that is physical, emotional or sexual.
05:21 Trauma from abandonment, from accidents or even from eye witness occurrences.
05:30 It leaves a tattoo but this variety of tattoos is under the skin.
05:40 In cursive is the name of the assailant or a technicolor picture of the perpetrator.
05:50 You have to remind yourself to forget and then forgive yourself for remembering.
06:01 One of the hardest things you will ever do is try to move on with unmarked boxes.
06:11 Dr. Carey told me recently that for every incident of trauma, it takes two years of recovery.
06:21 Can you imagine how many years it's going to take you to recover from all of the instances you've had to withstand?
06:32 Years ago, Oprah Winfrey co-authored a book that I want to recommend to you today. That book is entitled "What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience and Healing."
06:48 What happened to you? Conversations on trauma, resilience and healing.
06:55 In it, she asserts that when we question our emotions, it's easy to place blame on ourselves because we didn't rise to an unrealistic standard.
07:09 Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Bruce Perry, her writing partner, suggest that the first step to restoration is to change the line of questioning.
07:20 Instead of asking, "What's wrong with you?" That is not the right question.
07:27 The question you should not be asking is, "What's wrong with you?" What you should be asking is, "What happened to you?"
07:39 A lot of us are asking the wrong question. "What's wrong with you?" And we never ask, "What happened to you?"
07:50 We're not asking young people who are acting out in class before we send them to detention.
07:57 We're not asking them, "Did you stay up all night listening to your parents fighting in the next room?"
08:06 Isn't it amazing that the church will castigate and preach against homosexuality, but we preach no sermons on molestation.
08:19 Ask nothing about incest. We keep asking, "What's wrong with you?" but never ask, "What happened to you?"
08:28 That you have not even paid attention to an entire generation of young girls who are wearing oversized, baggy clothes.
08:36 It is not because they are masculine, but they are forced to hide their femininity from nasty old men who will not allow them to be girls.
08:45 We don't ask, "What happened to you?" Not, "What's wrong with you?"
08:53 Ladies and gentlemen, whatever happened, rest assured that all things are still going to work out for your good.
09:07 I know you all are highfalutin and sediti and bad and bougie and you've not lived through any trauma in your life. Good for you.
09:15 But for the rest of us who are still trying to keep our moral fiber intact and not break down at any given moment,
09:25 will you give God glory? I want you to kill a demon today. Give God glory for what you survived.
09:34 Y'all ain't been through nothing. I said, "Give God glory."
09:39 I don't care if it was 25 years ago or two nights ago. Would you give God glory for what you have overcome?
09:53 Come to think of it, nobody has ever asked, "What happened to Moses?"
10:02 What happened to Moses to make his anger so explosive that he could kill a man?
10:14 And probably because you approached from a position of feeling superior, you don't know what that kind of anger looks like or where it comes from.
10:24 But can you imagine how much anger Moses must have? Listen to me.
10:31 When Moses was the only one of her children she gave up, the rest of them got to stay home.
10:42 But she put him in a basket and sent him down the river while the rest of the kids got to stay.
10:51 You don't know the kind of anger of having your mama give you to somebody else to raise.
11:00 Because it wasn't a good time. You don't know what it's like to have to go to school and everybody knows you there because of a scholarship.
11:11 You can't fathom your father never checking on your well-being and the man who's raising you never says he loves you.
11:23 Stanford University discovered that stuttering happens in children from post-traumatic stress.
11:33 So Moses gets a stuttering, stammering tongue while he is anointed.
11:41 He's a stutterer and he's cold. Can't get his words together and the hand of God is on his life.
11:53 When he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew he was triggered because he knew for all intents and purposes that could have been me.
12:06 So when I go off, I need you to know it ain't even just over that incident.
12:15 It's all the stuff I had to bottle up and you was the fool to shake the bottle and you got to deal with what happens when the top comes off.
12:26 I tried to keep it together but nobody gives me extra credit from the anger I'm holding in.
12:37 What's important is that Moses' brokenness does not disqualify him from a divine assignment.
12:49 The Lord still uses him in spite of his stammering tongue and in spite of having anger management issues.
12:59 No wonder people don't like you. They can't figure out for the life of them how you've got all of these apparent weaknesses but God still chose you.
13:12 And I feel like I'm not the only witness in this room that knows God looks beyond all of my faults and he meets me at my knees.
13:24 You sitting there cause you perfect but those of y'all that still got some issues and still are bleeding and still got some trauma and got some pronounced brokenness
13:38 and you are amazed as all get out that God still decided to use you.
13:44 I dare you to give God glory because his grace and his mercy.
13:57 The Lord still uses him with a stammering tongue and with anger management.
14:07 He uses him to broker a ceasefire with Pharaoh and arrange for the release of 3 million hostages.
14:18 God still uses him.
14:21 I want you to help just breathe life into somebody who's sitting around you because they have discounted themselves.
14:32 You don't even understand that this is getting ready to be their life support.
14:37 Whoever's sitting beside you I dare you to just look at them and tell them God's still gonna use you.
14:44 Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
14:58 Forget them. Would you lay hands on yourself and just declare out loud God is still gonna use me.
15:24 God calls him. God calls him after the murder.
15:36 God calls him after he's a fugitive for 40 years.
15:43 Now the responsibility that rests on his shoulders is to lead people to the promised land.
15:51 You're not gonna believe it. The greatest issue he now has to confront is not the Egyptians.
16:00 The issue he now has to confront is his own family.
16:12 I'm trying to get y'all ready to see these people this week.
16:25 Exodus 12 transcribes how Miriam and Aaron have an issue with who Moses married because she has melanin.
16:43 Nothing about her character. Nothing about her personality.
16:48 They have an issue with Moses' wife because she has melanin.
16:53 And might I contend that is not the reason, that is the excuse.
17:05 Moses' wife ain't never do nothing to them.
17:09 They were looking for an excuse so they can have a reason.
17:16 So Miriam and Aaron ain't really mad about Moses' wife.
17:21 They can't comprehend how neither one of them ever broke the law and God chose their brother.
17:32 They can't understand because both of them are better public speakers than him, but God chose their brother.
17:42 A lot of times what people claim to be upset about ain't the real issue.
17:48 They are real, I'm talking about they big mad that the hand of God is so on your life and they thought it was going to be them.
18:00 But surprise! I'm the one that God chose.
18:05 I'm the one that God put his hand on and I refuse to apologize.
18:13 People in your family are not mad about your car.
18:28 They are mad because they can see you are going somewhere.
18:34 They are not mad about your house. They are mad that you have stability.
18:40 It ain't your job they mad about they are upset that you are walking in your purpose.
18:46 It is not your significant other they got an issue with.
18:50 It's the fact that they still lonely and think that they cute it in you.
18:54 It is the grace of God.
19:02 I got to show you something. Be seated. I'm getting ready to set 20 of you free.
19:07 I'm telling you I'm getting ready to set 20 of you free.
19:10 I'm getting ready to set 20 of you free right now.
19:13 The rest of y'all who getting ready to be set free are online.
19:16 But 20 of you brace yourself. This is not a turn to your neighbor I'm talking to you.
19:21 The truth of the matter is that Miriam should not have had beef with her sister-in-law.
19:29 She should have been thanking God for her sister-in-law.
19:34 Because if Moses' wife would have spoken and checked Miriam.
19:39 She should have said you ought to be glad I'm with your brother.
19:43 You know the Negro don't know how to talk.
19:46 You know he got anger management issues.
19:49 I love him and he caught a charge. I stuck with him and the authorities are looking after him.
19:56 Why you got an issue with me?
20:01 Moses' family should have been kissing her feet not riding her back.
20:06 Y'all ain't saying nothing.
20:08 I'm telling you that God is getting ready to defend you to in-laws that have become outlaws.
20:15 God said you ain't gonna have to defend yourself after today.
20:20 But God said if you hold your peace and let me fight your battles for you.
20:26 Victory shall be yours. Help me right here.
20:30 If you are tired of having to fight with family members.
20:34 Would you just open up your mouth and give God a shout right there.
20:45 You may be seated.
20:48 They talking about who Moses married.
20:52 Because they wanted an excuse because they really didn't have a reason.
20:59 And what they didn't understand Miriam and Aaron.
21:02 What they didn't understand is God don't play about who he called.
21:12 You better walk real light right through here.
21:16 You ain't gotta like me but watch your mouth.
21:32 She talked about Moses and the Lord heard what she said.
21:39 Now here's where I'm getting ready to mess some of you up.
21:41 She ain't never say it to Moses' wife.
21:45 She was talking about Moses' wife behind her back.
21:49 But God heard it.
21:51 Y'all ain't saying nothing. God is getting ready to expose the Negroes.
21:56 That been smiling in your face.
21:59 And all the while, come on here. I'm talking about backstabbers.
22:04 God said you are not gonna play light with my people.
22:13 Said you talked about Moses' wife and the Lord heard it.
22:19 So he afflicted Miriam with leprosy.
22:26 She never bowed down to a false god.
22:30 She never became a Satanist.
22:34 Her curse was talking about somebody anointed.
22:40 Y'all not gonna like this.
22:43 She didn't even talk about Moses.
22:46 She talked about who Moses was with.
22:49 God, I can't hear nobody because the oil on him is transferable to whoever he's connected to.
22:57 So when I say don't play with me, y'all better come on.
23:00 Don't play with my kids.
23:03 Don't play with the people that I love.
23:06 Don't play. Oil that's on my life is transferable.
23:15 Listen. Says Miriam, because you talking about who Moses is with, I'm putting you out of the camp.
23:23 I'm afflicting you with leprosy.
23:26 Pastor, what is leprosy?
23:28 Leprosy, watch this, is age 2.0.
23:32 It is an incurable disease.
23:35 I need you to understand it. Listen to me.
23:37 With leprosy, you can be scratching your head.
23:40 And when you scratch your head, a palm full of hair is in your hand.
23:45 With leprosy, watch this, you can be walking through the Judean hills and a digit of your toe will fall off.
23:53 With leprosy, you can sit in that tan chair.
23:56 And when you stand up from sitting in that tan chair, a graft of skin is still on the chair.
24:03 In other words, he was saying to Miriam, because of how you handled my daughter,
24:08 because of how you handled a woman of God, I'm going to make your whole life fall apart.
24:15 Until you get yourself together.
24:18 Y'all better get it together right through here.
24:21 There are people whose life is imploding because of how they handled you,
24:27 because of how they treated you, because of how they talked about you.
24:37 Says I'm putting you out of the camp.
24:40 And we get to our text, ladies and gentlemen, that she's put out of the camp.
24:47 And the Lord won't let them move on.
24:52 She's out of order, but they can't move on.
24:57 They got to stay right there.
25:00 I would have hated to have been in the tent that night with Moses.
25:05 Because I'm sure Moses' wife was making him have it.
25:09 You ain't even speak up for me.
25:13 You didn't even defend my honor.
25:16 God help me. I would have hated to have been in the deacon's meeting that day.
25:22 Trying to figure out can they move on, because they've got two outliers.
25:27 Miriam and Aaron.
25:30 And the whole church can't move.
25:32 Until they get themselves together.
25:35 God, I can't hear nobody.
25:37 I wish I could have dropped the microphone down to hear the murmurings of 3 million people.
25:43 To know why all of us got to stay here.
25:46 Because of two renegades who need to be checked.
25:51 God, I can't hear nobody.
25:52 God says, "Listen to me, ain't nobody going to move until I restore them back to their rightful place."
26:00 Because when y'all make it to the promise, you are not going to make it to the promise by yourself.
26:07 Y'all don't know when to shout. The whole family is going to make it together.
26:17 My time is almost up. I only got one point. I wish I had a better one.
26:21 But the only point that I got to give you is the Lord says, "Watch this. What your family member is going through is not permanent."
26:31 What your family member is dealing with will only sustain, watch this, for 7 days.
26:39 But 7 days from this day, whatever is broken in your family member is getting ready to be restored.
26:50 I know some of y'all only know how to shout over material stuff.
26:54 But God said there's getting ready to be glory in this room.
26:58 That I am getting ready, hear this, to restore out of order family members.
27:05 That whatever family members you got that are alcoholics and drug addicts.
27:11 Whatever family members you got who have sworn they'll never come to church again.
27:17 Whatever family members you got that have become Muslims and atheists.
27:22 Whatever family members you got that are still running the streets.
27:27 God said, "Give me 7 days and in 7 days I'm going to restore all of your broken family members."
27:37 I can't hear nobody. The reason why you got to shout is that before next Sunday, whatever is out of order in your brother, watch God fix it.
27:50 God said, "If you give me glory, whatever is broken in your sister, watch me fix it."
27:59 The worship that is getting ready to happen.
28:10 The worship that is getting ready to happen.
28:19 I got to warn you, the worship that is getting ready to happen is only for the maturing of faith.
28:27 Because you're praying for the restoration and for the healing of the people who dishonored you.
28:40 God, I can't hear nobody.
28:45 Father, you got to forgive them. I can't do it. You going to have to do your perfect work.
28:52 I'm telling you, your worship today is getting ready to open up seas of healing that you didn't even know that you needed.
29:04 Hallelujah, I feel the weight of his glory.
29:07 God said, "Watch me heal the siblings who don't speak to you."
29:14 "Watch me heal the children who have become distant from you."
29:19 "Watch me heal the aunt that owes you an apology."
29:24 God, I can't hear nobody. "Watch me do something for the family members who never saw the greatness that was in you."
29:33 He says, "I'm going to bless you, but I need them restored so you can finally move on with the rest of your life."
29:40 I am not going to allow you to be a hostage to childhood trauma.
29:47 But when you worship me, you get ready to walk into the healingest, the healthiest season of your life.
29:55 If you believe that God is able to do it, would you do me a favor? Put your ego aside.
30:02 Check your pride for one moment and lift up your hand and worship God for the restoration of broken family members.
30:14 Hallelujah, hallelujah.
30:18 Softly, musicians, open up your mouth.
30:22 Hallelujah.
30:25 I need them to heal it.
30:29 They don't understand why I don't like going to family gatherings.
30:35 They still haven't figured out why I don't like going home.
30:40 They still haven't figured out why I never stay long.
30:44 They still don't understand why I don't let my children hug them.
30:50 I need God to heal.
30:53 I need God to make a way.
30:57 Deacons, if you'll help me, I need you to open up this altar for me for just one moment. Help me.
31:03 I want to open up the altar. Listen to me.
31:06 I can't let you go through another Thanksgiving with these traumas still attached to you.
31:14 You got to get healed from it.
31:18 You ain't never been to war, but you got PTSD.
31:23 I need you to heal from it.
31:26 I'm going to open up this altar very quickly. Listen to me.
31:29 I don't need you to come with your friend. They're going to be all right.
31:32 I'm talking directly to you.
31:34 I want those of you who are in this room who are the children of addicts and alcoholics.
31:39 Would you meet me at this altar, please?
31:41 Those of you who are children of addicts and alcoholics, I need you to meet me at this altar, please.
31:55 I need you to come with me.
31:58 You'll pull in as close as you can.
32:02 There's healing for your soul.
32:05 Healing for your soul.
32:16 Healing for your soul.
32:22 Healing for your spirit.
32:28 Would you interlock arms with the person beside you?
32:34 Come on, Lord.
32:36 For this, you're healing.
32:42 For this, we know there is a balm in Galilee.
32:56 To heal your soul, to heal your sin-sick soul, there is a balm.
33:03 To heal your soul.
33:11 Listen, before you stretch your right hand to faith, the Holy Spirit just dropped in me.
33:16 There's five more of you that need to come, but you're still consumed by what other people think.
33:21 I need you to get here, please.
33:23 Every person that can hear my voice, would you indulge me and stand to your feet?
33:27 There's somebody that wants to come, but they don't want to inconvenience you.
33:31 Don't make them climb over you.
33:34 Come on, I'm waiting on four of you that need to be at this altar.
33:49 New birth, clap your hands while they're coming.
33:53 Those of you who are online and I'm talking to you, you're the child of an addict, child of an alcoholic.
33:59 Just put that waving hand on the thread for me so I know I'm talking to you.
34:05 New birth, would you stretch your right hand to faith?
34:10 Lord, I pray for divine healing.
34:17 For mangled hearts.
34:22 I pray dear Lord that in this moment at this altar, you will dry up the spirit of addiction in this family.
34:33 That our children won't even have a taste for it.
34:37 Won't even have a desire for it.
34:41 I pray dear Lord that you'll put a hedge fence of protection around our memories.
34:48 So that we can finally have a peace that passes all understanding.
34:55 God, we have carried this for years.
34:58 But it has become too heavy for us to bear.
35:02 So we release it to you at this altar.
35:06 God, we can't take another two years for healing.
35:10 We need something to happen in the next.
