00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:09 Last night was AEW's Full Gear 2023, where Adam Cole made his return, still on crutches
00:14 of course, to be by the side of MJF during his Ring of Honor tag title defence and AEW
00:19 World title defence.
00:20 Though after MJF was injured in the former of the two matches, it looked like we might
00:23 be seeing Cole step in to replace MJF, despite the one-leggedness of it all.
00:28 And it seems one person wasn't too thrilled with this development, that being Adam Cole's
00:32 actual partner Britt Baker, who posted on X saying "This is crazy cuz this man told
00:35 me the reason he's not loading the dishwasher is cuz he can't stand for very long."
00:39 What we are witnessing is miraculous, folks.
00:42 You've been found out there, Adam.
00:44 Back on dish washing duties for you, mate.
00:46 The sheer ridiculousness of a one-legged Cole stepping in to replace MJF in the show's
00:51 main event was something that Baker was not alone in her displeasure over.
00:55 All you have to do is jump on X or Reddit and read through a sea of comments to catch
00:58 the wave of displeasure surrounding the entire thing.
01:01 As pointed out by Kylie of Fightful "Overbooked" on X, who pointed out the "overbooked"
01:07 nature of the entire match, saying "Yo, that was the biggest bunch of nonsense AEW
01:11 has concocted in years.
01:13 MJF vs. J-White is a home run singles match that would have killed it, but now J-White
01:18 has lost to an injured MJF after multiple shots to cheat to win.
01:22 Not even mentioning the Adam Cole shenanigans."
01:24 On Reddit in the Full Gear discussion thread, user The Dummy seconded this opinion, saying
01:29 "That main event was some of the most nonsensical bulls**t this company has ever produced."
01:34 This sentiment was shared by Grapsody's Phil Lindsey, who called out Max's one-legged
01:37 dismantling of Bullet Club Gold, calling it all "unnecessary".
01:40 I mean sure, we can all agree that ahead of Full Gear none of us really expected J-White
01:44 to beat MJF, not this close to the bidding war of 2024 and not this close to World's
01:49 End in Long Island, New York, but still, was that the real answer to casting doubt on the
01:54 outcome?
01:55 For some, the only thing this angle actually accomplished was burying former IWGP Heavyweight
01:59 Champion J-White.
02:00 Fandrez123 on Reddit said "I can't shake the feeling that the leg thing just makes
02:05 J-White look weak as s**t.
02:07 If there had to be a leg injury, it should have happened in the match."
02:11 While Team Adds on Reddit called out AEW for burying White's prior accomplishments by
02:15 allowing him to be beaten by an injured MJF, saying "He had a ring, a title belt, two
02:20 goons against a guy that wasn't cleared until the last second with an injured guy
02:24 that recently came out of injury by his side and he lost."
02:27 This was the type of stuff that led to AEW existing in the first place, hope everyone
02:32 is reminded of that.
02:34 AEW adopting a more WWE approach, the very product that AEW initially aspired to counter
02:40 in the first place was something others pointed out the hypocrisy in.
02:43 Trevor Dain took to X2 Question the current identity of the product.
02:47 "AEW's problem is they want to please everybody.
02:49 You can argue that doing different things for different segments is the smart move,
02:53 but too often you instead get this tonal whiplash.
02:56 The identity of the company is completely confused, if a distinctive one exists at all
03:00 now."
03:01 This kind of sports entertainment shenanigans was something that according to Reddit user
03:04 Thedure, was reminiscent of MJF's mentor and WWE superstar Cody Rhodes during his own
03:10 time in AEW, saying "That was the most 2021 Cody Rhodes main event ever.
03:16 All of that melodramatic overbooking bulls*** just so Jey White can go 20 minutes with and
03:22 lose to a guy with one leg."
03:24 So what do you all think?
03:25 Were you a fan of the angle, or did it leave a sour taste in your mouth for the show overall?
03:29 Let us know in the comments below.
03:59 As always, I've been Oli Davis, and I'll see you next time.
04:29 With Baker clearly preferring that Cole would have remained off the Full Gear card, there
04:37 is another AEW star that would have very much enjoyed that little bit of PPV time, that
04:41 being Andrade El Idolo.
04:43 Posting to X ahead of Full Gear, Andrade pointed out the rather startling fact that since his
04:47 arrival in the company in June 2021, he's only wrestled twice on PPV.
04:52 That being at Full Gear 2021 in a tag match featuring he and Malakai Black against Cody
04:56 Rhodes and PAC, and his second at Revolution 2022 where he teamed with Matt Hardy and Isaiah
05:01 Cassidy against Sting, Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara.
05:04 While the tweet seemed like it carried the air of frustration, Andrade would put a positive
05:07 spin on it, saying, "2.5 years and 2 PPVs but today is a great PPV you can't miss it.
05:12 I love wrestling #antiPPV #not a single match #AEWFullGear"
05:17 Then in response to a fan that said he was sorry for El Idolo, he would respond saying,
05:21 "Sorry for what?
05:22 No, I have to work harder."
05:23 While it's nice to see Andrade using it as positive reinforcement, if he's being
05:27 serious, to get onto the next PPV card, one must remember the fact that his AEW contract
05:31 is indeed up in 2024, so maybe if things don't change he could reunite with his wife Charlotte
05:37 in WWE.
05:38 I mean, he's hinted at it in the past, so let's see how this one plays out.
05:42 One man who shut down any and all speculation surrounding a potential WWE move at last night's
05:46 Full Gear was Will Ospreay.
05:48 Tony Khan's big mystery was in fact the man that is actually still signed to New Japan
05:53 through...February 2024.
05:55 While this wasn't a surprise to many, it seems as if this allowance of Ospreay to sign
05:59 ahead of time is down to AEW and New Japan being best friends for life and all that.
06:05 Speaking at the post-Full Gear media scrum, Khan revealed that discussions with New Japan
06:08 regarding Ospreay signing at Full Gear were only recently agreed, while also bigging up
06:13 the importance of keeping Ospreay in our family.
06:16 The importance of staying in that AEW/New Japan bubble also seems to have been an important
06:20 factor for Ospreay himself, who addressed the Japanese fans in a video uploaded to the
06:24 AEW Japan X account.
06:26 In the video, Ospreay said he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, and just because he
06:29 wants to "explore new things" doesn't mean he can't come back.
06:33 As well as this, the importance of wrestling at Wembley for All In was also seemingly a
06:37 massive deal for both Khan and Ospreay, with the aerial assassin stating as such in his
06:41 promo at Full Gear.
06:42 Khan said it was a big priority to inform fans that Ospreay would 100% be at All In
06:47 before the tickets for the show go on sale on December 1st.
06:50 Ospreay himself spoke at the Full Gear media scrum and discussed this move, saying in AEW
06:56 he sees everything that made him fall in love with pro wrestling.
06:58 A clearly important factor in Ospreay's decision was the prospect of relocating from
07:02 the UK to the US.
07:03 While it was reported that Ospreay was willing to do that, with AEW it looks like he and
07:08 his family can stay put where they are.
07:10 Ospreay spoke of this saying, "Right now, this is the best decision for me and my family.
07:14 I'm not interrupting my kid's school, my missus can see her parents, I get to be one
07:17 of the best pro wrestlers that have ever done it and I get to do it now on weekly TV and
07:21 I get to really test myself in these waters."
07:24 As for the specifics of the deal, Fightful Select is reporting that Ospreay has signed
07:27 on for over three years, negotiations between the two parties picking up steam in the fall,
07:32 with the actual contract being signed yesterday morning.
07:35 As for WWE's interest, Fightful noted that the company had been in contact with Ospreay's
07:39 reps to gauge interest, as well as find out what kind of schedule and relocation was possible.
07:44 Fightful noted that while WWE never got official word that Ospreay was instead signing with
07:48 AEW, they did figure as such this week.
07:51 So now that the mystery of Tony Khan's mystery signing has been solved, we now look to some
07:56 clarification surrounding just what the hell Ronda Rousey was doing in AEW on Friday night.
08:02 While Rousey was a name batted around that could maybe be who TK was alluding to as his
08:06 big mystery signing for Full Gear, all that was kind of quashed when she showed up unannounced
08:11 to team with Marina Shafir against Athena and Billy Starks at a recent Ring of Honor
08:14 TV taping.
08:15 It was reported by Fightful Select prior to Full Gear that Rousey was on a handshake deal
08:20 with AEW and had not signed a contract.
08:23 This is something Khan confirmed at the Full Gear media scrum when he was posed with a
08:26 question regarding the former WWE and UFC star's status.
08:30 Khan clarified Rousey's status while suggesting she could appear in the future.
08:34 She is not signed, but we had a great conversation.
08:36 Ronda was happy to come here, she was great, the crowd were really excited to see her,
08:40 and it was a great match.
08:41 She's a local and lives nearby, and that helped make it possible.
08:45 Anytime it's convenient, we would love to have her back.
08:48 In Fightful Select's pre-Full Gear report, it was stated that there is hope on AEW's
08:52 end that Ronda's appearance can generate subscriptions for Honor Club, and while Rousey's
08:56 deal with AEW seems very non-committal, there was a suggestion in a post-match angle that
09:00 she could potentially stick around for at least another.
09:03 However, as pointed out by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, this latest run
09:07 is more a case of Ronda having fun in her local area with her friends than returning
09:12 to wrestling properly or signing another deal.
09:14 She didn't leave WWE to go to AEW.
09:17 Stranger things have happened, but certainly the deal when she left WWE was that she was
09:21 done with wrestling.
09:22 Meanwhile, we got confirmation on Full Gear of yet another new AEW Championship in the
09:28 form of the Continental Championship, but it seems this title might be a little different
09:32 than the others, and the details were a little confusing to say the least.
09:36 Eddie Kingston announced as part of his involvement in the Continental Classic tournament that
09:40 he'll be putting up his Ring of Honor World title and New Japan Strong Openweight title
09:44 on every defense he has in the Continental Classic, but Tony Khan also later clarified
09:50 that the winner of the tournament would win the Ring of Honor World title, and New Japan
09:54 Strong title, and the Continental title, making them a Triple Crown Champion, but that's
09:59 not really true.
10:01 If someone else beats Kingston during the tournament, then they would be the ch-
10:04 What's going on here?
10:06 Dave Meltzer, help me clarify things.
10:08 On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer explained the plan.
10:10 The deal is the Ring of Honor Championship essentially is changed to the Triple Crown
10:14 Championship.
10:15 The New Japan Strong title goes away as part of the Triple Crown.
10:19 The key to this is they have a championship that is defended in New Japan, Ring of Honor
10:22 and AEW, and sanctioned by all three.
10:25 Which seems a little redundant to me, considering the Ring of Honor title and the New Japan
10:30 Strong titles are already defended across all three promotions as it is, but hey, what
10:35 do I know?
10:36 So Kingston isn't actually putting his titles on the line for every match in the Continental
10:40 Classic, it's just the prize at the end?
10:42 I still don't get that bit, but hey, we'll soon see, won't we, with the tournament
10:47 set to start on this Wednesday's episode of Dynamite.
10:50 And hey, fans were upset about some of the stuff that happened on Full Gear last night,
10:53 but would any of the matches on the show make the top 10 list of worst AEW PPV matches ever?
10:58 Why not watch TLC where Luke, Tempest and I give our thoughts for what we think the
11:02 top 10 worst are, before this PPV.
11:05 None of which would have made my list, but you know.
