00:00 Quarterback Garrett Green.
00:01 Questions for Garrett?
00:04 Garrett, a lot of times decision-making
00:06 gets pointed toward the passing game,
00:08 you know, when to throw, when to whatever.
00:10 But it seemed like today decision-making
00:12 in the run game was really big.
00:14 What did you see well?
00:15 Did you have an idea of what might work well?
00:18 How did that play out for you?
00:20 Yeah, I think the scout team this week
00:22 really did a really nice job of giving me realistic looks.
00:25 And, you know, Coach Brown put together a game plan
00:28 that was simple and pretty easy to execute.
00:31 What led you to have success,
00:33 particularly on those long perimeter runs
00:35 where you count the first bounce?
00:37 I think it's a huge testament
00:39 to how selfless our receivers are.
00:42 You know, Coach Scott calls it activity after catch,
00:45 so -- which I didn't catch the ball, obviously.
00:48 But, you know, it's really blocking when the guy's in space.
00:52 And I know Treylin Ray had a really big block
00:55 on one of the touchdowns.
00:57 That's something that they take pride in.
00:59 They take pride in blocking downfield,
01:01 and it's paid off for us.
01:03 Garrett, last week against Oklahoma,
01:05 you struggled, obviously.
01:06 Neil said you would bounce back, and you obviously did.
01:09 What was your mindset throughout the week
01:11 to try and push that performance a new lot?
01:13 Yeah, I think that, you know, it was really just --
01:15 I was really itching to get back out there
01:17 because what I showed at Oklahoma
01:19 wasn't my brand of football.
01:21 You know, obviously I wasn't good enough
01:23 to compete on the road.
01:25 And, you know, I was just looking forward
01:27 to getting out there, and, you know,
01:28 the O-line played a hell of a game,
01:30 and Jaheim ran his butt off.
01:33 What did you see up the middle?
01:34 Because you had also a lot of runs kind of going right
01:36 through the middle, through the defensive line.
01:38 The defensive line is the best unit on their team,
01:41 but not a problem for you.
01:42 Yeah, I think that's just --
01:44 that's just all credit goes to our O-line.
01:48 You know, Zach had a really big test tonight.
01:50 I think number two is a really, really good player.
01:53 And, you know, I think Frazier handled him well.
01:56 He's the best center in the country,
01:57 and he should be a first-round pick.
01:59 What did you see on the long touchdown pass
02:04 to Jaheim early second quarter?
02:06 Yeah, so we kind of had that play set up,
02:10 and, you know, we ran a similar look,
02:13 so we kind of knew what we were going to get.
02:15 And, you know, Jaheim's one of the best
02:17 football players in the country.
02:19 You can ask him to do anything.
02:21 He ran for 2-10 tonight.
02:23 He had a -- what was it, 75 yards?
02:25 Yeah, 75-yard touchdown catch.
02:27 So, I mean, he's one of the best players in the country.
02:30 What makes you just kind of stand up to see him?
02:32 Is that height? That's pretty high for him?
02:34 Yeah, no, I mean, he's --
02:35 I mean, the only knock you have on him is his height,
02:38 but you see guys like Deuce Vaughn and,
02:41 you know, who's the TCU guy?
02:46 Well, whoever.
02:47 But, yeah, he's a hell of a player.
02:50 And, you know, it's my job and the offensive job
02:52 is to really find ways and creative ways
02:55 to get him in space.
02:58 What -- Neil kind of talked about it,
03:00 but what was the mindset right before halftime?
03:04 A minute 30, but you don't have any timeouts,
03:06 and he scored, like, 40 seconds.
03:07 Yeah.
03:09 I mean, what do you want to do on that?
03:10 Yeah, I mean, we practice that every week.
03:12 Coach Bryant gives us --
03:14 Coach Bryant gives us different situations,
03:17 whether it's three timeouts and, you know,
03:19 you feel like you have all the time in the world,
03:20 or it's, you know, 50 seconds,
03:22 and you got to go 75 yards with no timeouts.
03:25 So I think our guys practiced well in that this week,
03:29 and it showed up.
03:30 You mentioned Zach being maybe a future NFL draft pick,
03:34 and even Coach Brown talked about
03:36 you taking last week personally.
03:37 He also talked about kind of the team
03:41 taking the offensive line,
03:42 not being recognized as a group personally.
03:45 Can you speak on that as a leader of that group?
03:48 Do you feel like they were slighted,
03:49 and did that motivate you more?
03:51 Yeah, they were definitely slighted.
03:53 You know, the semifinalists came out,
03:55 and, you know, our group was the only team in the top ten
03:59 in both rushing yards and sacks allowed.
04:02 You know, our O-line's the best in the country.
04:05 It's not really even a question in my mind.
04:08 I'd go to war for those guys any day,
04:11 and I think they'd say the same.
04:12 Gary, how much does, you know, the O-line playing well,
04:19 the receivers blocking well, and cheating really well,
04:22 you playing, you know, decisions?
04:24 How kind of complicated is it
04:26 to have a really good offensive performance like this?
04:28 Because sometimes from the stands it looks effortless,
04:31 but you mentioned all these different things
04:33 that have to go right.
04:35 Yeah, I think it's just the investment
04:37 and the time that our guys put into this week in and week out.
04:42 I know me and Frazier are kind of competing
04:44 for the last in the building on our work days,
04:47 and, you know, I think that's just a testament
04:49 to how much these guys care about each other.
04:51 You know, it's just like receivers blocking on the edge.
04:55 You know, they understand they got to put the time in,
04:57 and, you know, because Coach Brown does a really good job
04:59 of changing stuff up, changing looks up for the defense
05:02 that's hard for them but easy for us,
05:04 and, you know, we did a good job of executing that tonight.
05:07 Coach Brown called you the ultimate competitor.
05:09 What does that mean to you,
05:10 and how would you describe being the ultimate competitor?
05:13 I mean, I think just I just want to win.
05:16 You know, I mean, I don't care if I have to,
05:18 you know, throw the ball every down
05:20 or, you know, if I have to pull it every time,
05:24 you know, if I have to rush for 200 or,
05:26 you know, whatever it is,
05:28 the main thing is winning ballgames,
05:29 and that's what I'm here to help this team do.
05:32 What does it mean for you guys to go 5-1 at home?
05:36 Yeah, it's, you know, obviously, you know, it's a great state.
05:40 You know, they love their football,
05:41 so, you know, it's on us to give them a good showing at home,
05:45 and that's kind of been our mantra and our focus.
05:48 This whole entire year was to play well at home,
05:52 and, you know, I think 5-1 is pretty good.
05:56 You know, we obviously want to be 6-0 at home,
05:59 but, you know, it's better than it's been in years past.
06:03 When you're making good decisions tonight,
06:05 especially in the run game like you were,
06:07 does it kind of build?
06:08 Is it kind of like, hey, man,
06:09 we're running this against this front,
06:11 and I made the right call last time.
06:13 You know, I know I can make the right call again.
06:15 Does it kind of snowball for you?
06:18 A little bit, but Coach Brown's taught me a lot about,
06:21 you know, just treating every play as its own.
06:23 So, you know, no two plays are alike,
06:25 so whether the last play was really,
06:27 really good or really, really bad, you know,
06:30 each play has its own life.
06:32 You got to treat it as such.
06:35 Garrett, you obviously were disappointed
06:37 in how you played last week.
06:38 I'm curious, when did you move on from that,
06:41 and how difficult is it to flush a game like that
06:43 when you feel like you left a lot of plays on the field?
06:45 Yeah, I think I really didn't really get over it
06:50 until about Monday when I really started
06:52 watching Cincinnati film,
06:54 because obviously that's a game
06:56 that I really wanted for this program,
06:59 and I wish I could have done a better job of,
07:01 you know, making more plays to get us
07:03 in a better situation last week in Norman,
07:06 but I'm happy the way the guys responded tonight.
07:09 And what would it mean to now go on the road
07:11 and try to get to an eighth victory?
07:13 Yeah, I think, you know, obviously you want to win them
07:16 all, so we got a chance to be a nine-win team,
07:20 but, you know, I think we're better than a nine-win team.
07:24 You know, our offensive line, again, I can stand up here
07:27 and talk about those guys all the time,
07:28 but they're the best in the country,
07:30 and, you know, I think we can beat anybody with those guys.
07:34 Obviously there's still more work to be done,
07:36 and the story of the season hasn't been written yet,
07:38 but just overall so far, what has this season meant to you?
07:41 Yeah, it's been a whole lot.
07:43 You know, I love all those guys in the locker room.
07:46 You know, we've really grown really,
07:48 really close over the last three months or so.
07:52 This team's really meshed well,
07:53 and I think that's translated to a good play on the field.
07:57 Okay. Thank you very much.
