00:03 Welcome to WatchMojo, and in this installment of Versus,
00:06 we're pitting the two most cunning, malicious, and bloodthirsty caped crusaders we've seen on TV against each other.
00:13 Homelander from The Boys vs. Omni-Man from Invincible.
00:17 Don't worry, we're only showing and talking about what we've seen in the shows, not from the comics.
00:21 So, no spoilers here unless you haven't been watching either.
00:25 "I'm stronger, I'm smarter, I'm better!"
00:29 Round 1 - Origin Story
00:33 Out of a desire to control the world's most powerful hero, Vought International simply made one.
00:39 "Today is not my birthday either."
00:42 "Nope. Don't know when it is, but sure as hell ain't today."
00:48 "This was just chosen for me by a marketing department."
00:51 Within the walls of a secure facility, they raised Homelander to be a sharp and strong soup that would take the world by storm.
00:59 But the company forgot to spend time teaching him how to be human.
01:02 As a result of growing up isolated and without much contact with civilians,
01:06 Homelander grew into a sociopath who ironically didn't believe that humanity was worth saving.
01:12 "You should have been raised in a home with a family who loved you, not in a cold lab with doctors."
01:19 "And yet, I turned out great."
01:21 He quickly learned how to hide his contempt for everyone behind a smile.
01:25 The writers cleverly reveal Homelander's messed up backstory piece by piece at a time.
01:30 In the end, we put together that by the time he actually started saving lives as Homelander,
01:36 he already detested humans.
01:38 "You people should be thanking Christ that I am who and what I am because you need me!"
01:45 "You need me to save you!"
01:47 Omni-Man, aka Nolan Grayson, originally told humanity that he was sent to Earth from a peaceful planet in order to help them excel.
01:55 "I volunteered to relocate to Earth and be its sole protector."
01:58 "That's when I met your mother."
02:01 Unfortunately, his true origins were much darker than anyone could have anticipated.
02:06 Although Nolan was indeed from the stars, he was actually from a planet of violent conquerors.
02:12 "Our most trusted officers were each given a planet to weaken by themselves."
02:18 "I was one of those lucky few."
02:21 He only came to Earth to make the planet as vulnerable as possible before his fellow Viltrumites launched a full-scale invasion.
02:27 While we get major hints that Nolan was twisted throughout season one,
02:31 our jaws still dropped when his origins were finally shown.
02:35 The full reveal of Omni-Man's backstory made us see the entire show's events up to that point in a new light.
02:41 "And now, we need to get Earth ready to join the Viltrum Empire."
02:47 "Mark, this is good news."
02:53 We loved learning about the dark origins of both of these super-powered men.
02:57 However, there's no denying that Omni-Man's backstory has a much bigger impact on the entire course of the show.
03:03 "If it wasn't for you and me, this planet would be in flames."
03:07 "All we have to do is welcome Earth into our empire."
03:15 Both of our malicious do-gooders spend their time fooling the world into believing they are their saviors.
03:21 In reality, the blood from their victims is still dripping from their hands.
03:25 Homelander, though a hero to all, has mercilessly slaughtered dozens of people, and it isn't just limited to criminals.
03:32 "First, I'll take out the nerve centers. The White House, the Pentagon, and any domestic defense capabilities."
03:41 The only man in the sky has used his powers as a means to keep Vought's public image squeaky clean.
03:47 From blasting down a politician's plane to killing fellow Supes that get on his bad side,
03:51 Homelander has quickly shown that he will stoop to the most sinister crimes imaginable if it means keeping everything neat and tidy for Vought.
03:59 "Hey, is everything okay with Noir?"
04:02 "He was keeping secrets from me."
04:04 In the process, he's responsible for at least 40 on-screen deaths and let over 100 more die.
04:11 Whereas Homelander has killed dozens, Omni-Man has a few extra zeros tacked onto his kill count.
04:16 "How could you do this?"
04:18 "That was your fault. Your stubbornness against the inevitable killed those people. How many more need to die, Mark?"
04:25 We're not just talking about deaths from collateral damage, either.
04:28 This is a man who has killed his own kind, helped bring an end to entire planets, annihilated an entire team of superheroes,
04:36 and lest we forget the infamous train scene during his fight with Mark.
04:40 Yeah, the kill count is in the hundreds of thousands at the very least.
04:44 "I will burn this planet down before I spend another minute living among these animals."
04:52 There's no contest in this round, as Omni-Man has claimed more bodies than the knockoff soup.
04:57 And he probably would have from just the train scene alone.
05:00 "Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power."
05:04 Winner, Omni-Man.
05:06 Round 3, Deviousness.
05:08 With great power comes a cunning plan on how to execute nefarious deeds.
05:13 And both monsters have shown their brains are just as terrifying as their brawn.
05:18 Omni-Man arrived on Earth with global conquest in mind.
05:21 "You don't seem to understand. Earth isn't yours to conquer."
05:26 How did he do it?
05:27 Well, he spent decades tricking the entire human race into thinking he was protecting them.
05:33 He even posed as an ally to the guardians of the globe when they got into trouble.
05:37 And all the while, Omni-Man didn't let it slip that he was assigned to the planet for an invasion.
05:42 "You had a reason. You wanna get it off your chest?"
05:47 "Fine."
05:54 It wasn't until after the Immortals' resurrection that he was exposed to the world.
05:58 And his veil started to slip the second he went after the real guardians of the globe.
06:03 He had a solid plan up until he started offing heroes.
06:06 "We trusted you! You betrayed us!"
06:11 "You should have stayed dead."
06:14 Homelander has a similar method to his madness.
06:16 "Alright, everyone, remain calm. Stay in your seats. Everything's under control."
06:22 "You gotta go out there. Lift the plane up."
06:24 "Lift the plane? How?"
06:26 On the outside, he poses to the world as Vought's star pupil.
06:30 The head honcho of the Seven who could do no wrong and bring no harm.
06:34 In reality, he does anything he can to protect the public image of Vought, the Seven, and himself.
06:40 This includes blasting a mayor's private jet out of the sky
06:44 and coercing his fellow heroes into committing some truly vile deeds.
06:48 "What? That sort of treason? Big word. Do you need Homelander?"
06:59 Most infamously, he intervened when plane passengers were held hostage,
07:03 damaged the plane, and let it crash into the ocean.
07:06 He then lied about his involvement in the incident
07:09 and used it to convince people into giving Supes more political power.
07:13 And the worst part? He shows absolutely no remorse, no shred of guilt.
07:18 "But if they let us into the military, then this will never happen again. That is my solemn promise to you."
07:27 Had Omni-Man not left the planet towards the end of Invincibles' first season out of remorse,
07:32 perhaps he would have won this one.
07:34 While there are cracks in Homelander's facade,
07:37 he still effortlessly deceives the world on a daily basis.
07:41 "It was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last minute details."
07:47 Winner, Homelander.
07:49 Round 4, Brutality
07:51 Though both have killed many in gruesome ways,
07:54 the most evil supervillains can be downright vile in how they make their victims suffer.
07:59 This is arguably where Omni-Man and Homelander truly separate themselves.
08:03 Omni-Man is a threat that you wouldn't expect.
08:06 "I just wanted to swing by and make sure our partnership is still going strong."
08:11 "Like you said, never piss off your tailor, right?"
08:14 Even when he's playing faux hero, he shows up as a sort of last resort.
08:18 But just look at everything that happens between the ambush on the Guardians of the Globe
08:22 all the way to his fight with his son.
08:24 When people seem suspicious, Omni-Man will pop up when you least expect it.
08:28 "Where's Mark, William? You were supposed to drop him off an hour ago."
08:34 He's got a pulse on everything and doesn't need to show his power to keep you quiet.
08:38 He caught the Guardians off guard, showed up to arts unannounced,
08:41 and turned the GDA's ambush into a death trap.
08:44 "You've been spying on me, on my family?"
08:47 "No, it was for your family's protection."
08:49 "You were always so pathetic, Donald."
08:52 He does not give you time to process and plan.
08:56 Omni-Man at your door means you are on his radar and possibly his wanted list.
09:01 As for Homelander, he isn't one to end his victims quickly.
09:05 "I'm scared of you."
09:08 "Thank you. Thank you for finally being honest."
09:14 Instead, he makes his presence known before your demise.
09:17 And he enjoys toying with his prey right up to the very end.
09:21 There are numerous times when Homelander is shown smiling right after he's dealt a fatal blow.
09:27 "Shhh."
09:32 "Donald."
09:33 And since he doesn't believe in overkill, he'll use his full strength on humans just because he can.
09:39 And the way he brushes off the lives of many innocent people in general is stomach-churning.
09:44 He truly views himself as the most powerful man in existence,
09:48 and he will relish every second of your suffering.
09:51 "Well, being feared is a one-no-kid-don't by me."
09:56 While Omni-Man has incredibly sinister plans in place for the world,
10:00 it's Homelander that has us truly terrified every time he shows up.
10:04 He truly takes joy in pain.
10:07 Guessing what he might do next is almost impossible.
10:10 "No, no, no. No God. The only man in the sky is me."
10:19 Winner, Homelander.

10:37 Round 5. Who would win in a fight?
10:40 Now we end with a speculation tradition.
10:43 Who would top who?
10:45 After all, both Homelander and Omni-Man are supposed to be the token Superman of their respective shows.
10:51 "You thought that could hurt me?"
10:52 "No. That was just to get your attention."
10:55 As such, we already know what most of their powers entail.
10:58 Flight, super speed, superhuman strength, and almost complete invulnerability.
11:03 Homelander stands out by having x-ray vision and deadly laser eyes.
11:07 Meanwhile, Omni-Man has shown that he has no problem casually flying and punching in the vacuum of space.
11:13 "You should have seen the asteroid I diverted a few years ago. The size of Texas."
11:17 Both of them have also beaten other super-powered people.
11:20 Omni-Man just has a much higher win count in that category.
11:24 In a sense, they're gods.
11:26 However, there is one technicality between the two that leads to a decision for this round.
11:31 The almost complete invulnerability part.
11:34 "You really had me going for a minute there."
11:39 You see, Homelander might be a man of steel, but that does not make it impossible to take him out.
11:44 He is not invincible, and one of his powers is that he ages much more slowly than the average human.
11:50 How does this differ from Omni-Man?
11:52 Well, a Viltrumite can live for thousands of years.
11:55 "Do you have any idea how long we live? The older we get, the slower we age."
12:02 If they're severely injured, they can recover fairly quickly.
12:06 They are still vulnerable to strong opponents and certain frequencies of sound.
12:11 However, Homelander also has a weakness to certain frequencies due to enhanced hearing.
12:15 Additionally, he is still vulnerable to blunt force from strong heroes,
12:19 can be depowered by other Supes, and could theoretically contract a man-made super-virus.
12:25 "What would happen if you told Vord you created a virus that kills Supes?"
12:30 Omni-Man simply doesn't have any of those issues to worry about when he rushes into battle.
12:35 While we know we wouldn't survive three seconds in a ring with Homelander,
12:38 he frankly doesn't hold a candle to Omni-Man.
12:41 The Viltrumite has fewer weaknesses and a lot more experience fighting opponents
12:46 on his power level throughout his extremely long existence.
12:49 Need we say more? It is very clear that Omni-Man would emerge from this fight victorious.
12:55 "Someday, you too will die."
12:59 "Sure, but you should have died at birth."
13:03 Winner, Omni-Man.
13:05 So, did we pick the right winner? Or is Homelander the true evil Superman?
