00:00 For some, it's only a matter of time before time travel becomes possible.
00:04 The laws of physics allow for it, at least to travel forwards, and there would be massive
00:09 commercial value if it ever were invented.
00:11 However, there are also those that believe that what we're waiting for is actually
00:15 already here; that time travel is not only real, but already very advanced.
00:21 And what's more, that the secrecy surrounding it goes all the way to the very top of global
00:26 politics.
00:27 This is Unveiled, and today we're taking a closer look at Project Pegasus.

00:46 This isn't the first time that the US government has been accused of keeping something hugely
00:50 significant from the rest of the world.
00:52 And it more than likely won't be the last.
00:54 In Area 51, the Montauk Project, the Philadelphia Experiment, MKUltra, and more, the American
01:01 authorities have an entrenched reputation for allegedly concealing the truth.
01:05 But perhaps Project Pegasus is the strangest, and potentially most significant, claim of
01:10 all.
01:11 At the centre of it is Andrew Basiago, a one-time successful lawyer turned time travel whistleblower.
01:18 Since the mid-2000s, Basiago has variously claimed that he was one of the first "chrononauts",
01:24 a traveller in time, during a top-secret US initiative known as Project Pegasus.
01:30 In the late 1960s and early 1970s, when Basiago was a child, it's said that he and a select
01:36 few gifted children from across America were chosen by the CIA and DARPA, the Defense Advanced
01:42 Research Projects Agency, to be trained in the ways of time travel.
01:47 Basiago's allegations, while incredibly far-reaching, have now withstood for a number of years,
01:53 with many drawn in by the consistency of his claims.
01:56 So, what exactly does he have to say?
01:59 Over the years, Basiago has plotted a truly extraordinary life story.
02:03 He says that, starting at the age of seven, when he was recruited for Project Pegasus,
02:08 he was sent on various missions by DARPA, including back into the past to revisit some
02:13 of history's most famous dates.
02:15 He claims to have made multiple visits to Ford's Theatre in Washington, specifically
02:19 on April 14th, 1865, aka the night that Abraham Lincoln was assassinated there.
02:25 He also claims to have been sent back to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, eighteen months earlier, to
02:31 witness Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg Address on November 19th, 1863.
02:36 Here he even says there's photographic proof, as Basiago claims to have been captured by
02:40 chance in the foreground of a famous photo showing Lincoln in the background.
02:45 The figure that Basiago says is him is standing, apparently, alone, slightly apart from another
02:51 small group, and looking to his right.
02:54 There are suggestions that he was wearing adult-sized shoes as part of a rushed disguise
02:59 during the trip, which is arguably apparent in the image.
03:03 It's said that Basiago travelled to some locations so frequently that he was often
03:07 in danger of meeting himself… and perhaps did on a couple of occasions.
03:11 However, there were no world-ending paradoxes triggered.
03:15 With further suggestions that he may have even visited slightly different "versions"
03:19 of past events, with each somehow affected by the time-travelling that had gone on before.
03:24 Most of what's on record about Basiago's story is as a result of him having run for
03:29 president in the past, most notably in 2016, as an independent candidate.
03:35 In interviews on the campaign tour, Basiago made some pledges to disclose official records
03:40 if he ever had the opportunity to do so.
03:43 However, this is a tale that also involves the White House more directly than only Basiago's
03:48 run.
03:49 It's said that Project Pegasus has before provided US authorities with information about
03:53 certain future presidents, too… and that in some cases, those individuals might have
03:58 even been briefed beforehand as a result.
04:01 Meanwhile, perhaps the strangest aspect of this entire situation is that Basiago goes
04:06 so far as to say that a former president was also directly involved as a traveller back
04:11 in the day, Barack Obama.
04:14 Basiago says that he met Obama through a follow-up to Pegasus in the early 1980s when Obama was
04:19 around 19 years old.
04:21 And by that time, DARPA had really scaled up, as Basiago and Obama were allegedly part
04:26 of a group that "teleported to Mars".
04:29 It's said that, while the pair barely spoke, they were in a top-secret cohort sent to the
04:34 Red Planet on an early reconnaissance mission tasked with, among other things, building
04:40 trust with the locals.
04:42 In amongst everything else Basiago has to say, it almost goes unnoticed, but he reckons
04:46 that there is life on Mars, and that he's met it.
04:50 Some of the Martians are then said to be friendly, and others not so much.
04:54 But the groundwork for the eventual revelation of life on Mars to the public has already
04:59 been made by the likes of Basiago and Obama.
05:02 When these allegations surfaced in and around 2012 - a red-letter year for conspiracy theorists
05:08 - they were swiftly denied by US officials.
05:12 However, if any of it is true, then we will surely know by 2028, at least.
05:17 Because that's when Basiago also claims that he will be elected either President or
05:22 Vice President of America.
05:24 Given his history with time travel, he says that he has prior knowledge that this will
05:28 happen.
05:29 But still, how did any of it happen up until this point?
05:32 Again, one of the reasons why Basiago's claims have endured while others have fallen
05:36 away is because he has consistently referred to the same kinds of technology and the same
05:41 initial process.
05:42 He says he was originally identified as having the potential for time travel in the late
05:47 60s, with experiments beginning just a couple of months after the moon landings in 1969.
05:52 He alleges that his father had also been an early time traveller, for a number of years
05:57 beforehand, but that the Pegasus Initiative aimed to employ young children specifically,
06:02 as their reports would be much truer and free of outside influence, bias, or knowledge.
06:07 Basiago further claims that even before his enrolment in Pegasus, he had displayed certain
06:12 other heightened abilities, including clairvoyance, psychic powers, and levitation.
06:18 In general, he could demonstrate apparent low-level superpowers to the minds of most,
06:23 as could all of the others involved… which also allegedly included some now high-ranking
06:28 figures in US security - more than just Basiago or even Obama.
06:33 It's claimed that Project Pegasus, and its various top-secret offshoots, were all about
06:38 creating "a new generation of young Americans with extraordinary capabilities".
06:44 Physically speaking, Basiago has said that the time "machine" or "portal" that
06:48 he used for all of his trips was seemingly quite a simple design.
06:52 The contraption itself was about eight feet tall and ten feet wide, and was apparently
06:56 just plugged into a socket in the wall.
06:59 When switched on, it triggered a rush of what's referred to as "radiant energy", allegedly
07:04 based on designs that the US authorities once retrieved from the one-time apartment of Nikola
07:09 Tesla in the mid-1940s.
07:12 Being only a time traveller, and not a time machine engineer, Basiago has never gone into
07:17 great detail about how exactly the machine worked… although the link to Tesla implies
07:22 that it would have been an extremely original concept.
07:25 Either way, for the user, the DARPA time machines worked like a tunnel, distorting space-time
07:31 and linking you from the present to the past or future.
07:35 Simply step through, and your journey began.
07:38 So, what do you think?
07:40 Is Andrew Basiago telling the truth?
07:42 Has he led a life of time travel?
07:44 Will he one day become President?
07:46 And is a former President really involved in a massive cover-up?
07:50 On the face of it, his claims of a Tesla-inspired vortex that has since been kept secret for
07:55 decades perhaps appear far-fetched… however, it's a story that he has resolutely stuck
08:00 to for decades now.
08:03 Alongside it, he alleges that he's already visited Mars, and that there is life to be
08:07 found there.
08:08 Back in the here and now, that fact - if true - has yet to be revealed to the rest of us.
08:14 Until such time that it is, then Basiago's message will no doubt be met with scepticism
08:19 from many.
08:20 Then again, has he really just been working within an inevitable paradox all along?
08:26 Because if time travel is to ever exist, then surely it already does.
08:30 So, is it so hard to believe that the tech is being kept under firm lock and key?
08:36 For now, that's what allegedly happened when America sent time travellers to another
08:41 planet.
08:42 What do you think?
08:43 Is there anything we missed?
