00:00 I'm Manny Rubio, I'm the president and CEO of Aboitiz Power,
00:03 and I'm with Esquire Philippines.
00:05 I ask people questions, my peers, friends,
00:18 who are also occupying senior positions in companies.
00:22 I think the consistent question is nothing prepares you
00:25 for something that's bigger or higher,
00:28 in terms of roles, responsibility.
00:31 It's what you make out of it,
00:34 and your past experiences,
00:36 and the collective learnings,
00:39 and being aware of what is actually needed,
00:42 and what the expectations are.
00:45 As CEO, of course, then you come up with your vision
00:47 for the organization,
00:48 and make sure that that vision is communicated
00:51 and accepted throughout the organization.
00:54 There's belief by the organization
00:57 that actually that vision is worth doing.
01:00 One of the key strengths of the group,
01:10 not just Aboitiz Power, but Aboitiz Group,
01:12 is our succession plan.
01:13 They're very much in place.
01:15 But succession plans are in place for existing positions.
01:19 What about new technologies?
01:20 What about if we see a disruptor,
01:23 and we want that disruptor to be a source of opportunity,
01:26 where do we get the talent from?
01:28 The talents from?
01:30 I believe that nuclear will be an option for the country
01:33 10 years, 15 years from now.
01:35 Where do we get nuclear engineers?
01:37 Do we train our current people now,
01:38 send them abroad, and learn about nuclear technology,
01:41 and make them nuclear engineers?
01:43 Is it too early?
01:44 Because when that time comes, when there's nuclear,
01:48 then that's when you train them.
01:49 I think that's too late.
01:50 So I think today we need to plant the seeds
01:53 for those kind of talents,
01:55 technologies that we see as disruptors of the future.
01:59 But having said that, we also need to make sure
02:01 that we have the talent to manage the current business
02:04 as we grow.
02:05 And that's where we compete with other generators as well.
02:09 And we make sure that Aboitiz as a brand,
02:12 not just Aboitiz Power, Aboitiz as a brand
02:14 is considered an employer of choice.
02:17 And as much as possible, we try to communicate,
02:19 I try to communicate and go out there
02:22 and sell Aboitiz Power.
02:23 That's why I love every opportunity that I'm given
02:26 to speak in universities,
02:29 for them to realize that,
02:32 oh, that's Aboitiz Power, that's what they represent.
02:35 I'd like to work for Aboitiz Power.
02:36 And to me, that's the outcome of those speaking engagements.
02:40 I've succeeded.
02:42 We need to understand the value of what we have, right?
02:51 What we have today.
02:53 And as I said, two things I'm certain of,
02:56 climate change is real, it's upon us,
02:58 and we need to transition to cleaner energy.
03:00 We are trying to take care of the environment
03:04 as much, as best as we can,
03:05 to make sure that there's still earth
03:07 for our grandchildren, right?
03:09 And I hope that the generations after me
03:13 and after that generation,
03:15 would still have that kind of mindset
03:17 to preserve what we have as much as we can.
03:21 We only have one planet, Earth,
03:24 and good planets are hard to come by.
03:26 So we need to make sure that we appreciate what we have
03:31 and preserve what we have.
