Daniel Radcliffe's friend and stunt double David Holmes suffered a life-changing injury on the set of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' but the pair have remained like brothers ever since. The pair's brotherly bond is the focus of a new Sky Documentary 'David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived' which is out on 18 November 2023. Report by Burtonj. 00:00 As a stunt performer you get to don the character, you get to hide behind that.
00:04 It's a little bit full on with an itsallaboutme.com but I'm embracing it as best I can and hopefully
00:13 the message that I project after this film is just hope, positivity and the fact that
00:19 life's ultimately not fair but it's the way you see it determines your outcome.
00:24 So I had to be convinced, I started off trying to highlight the stunt performers with the
00:29 Cunning Stunts podcast series, me and Daniel did, but I was convinced by Dan and my director
00:35 and the producers to turn the camera on me and focus on my journey.
00:41 So yeah I was really nervous but we're here now and hopefully we put it out in the world
00:46 and it brings some positivity to life.
00:48 Obviously there's a lot of reflecting that this film was about and I watched it and seeing
00:53 all of those behind the scenes footage of yourself and your fellow stunt people doing
00:58 what we thought was Daniel but was actually you guys.
01:00 How do you feel watching those kind of things happen?
01:03 Nothing but pride.
01:05 My contribution to those films, albeit ten seconds long or fifteen seconds across the
01:10 franchise, I know that Harry Potter means a lot to a lot of people.
01:15 There are people watching that film in some really bad situations in life right now and
01:19 I take great comfort from the fact that those people, my fifteen seconds is contributing
01:26 to that story and that safe space for them.
01:29 Obviously there's many interviews with Daniel within this and he talks about you being his
01:34 big brother on set essentially.
01:35 He's my boy.
01:36 So as his big brother, how is your relationship these days?
01:38 He's one of my best friends.
01:39 We share our best and worst moments in life together.
01:43 So like I say, everyone got to watch that young man grow up in camera.
01:47 I get to see him grow up as a man behind which I'm very fortunate about.
01:50 I love him to pieces, I'm extremely proud of him and being his gymnastics coach throughout
01:55 the Potter franchise, I can vicariously live through the way his physicality is and some
02:00 of the stuff he does on stage or in front of camera.
02:03 So I'm really thankful.
02:04 Well you said you saw him on Broadway the other day and you were teaching him his physicality.
02:08 Do you sometimes be like, to a friend, be like, "Talk to him now."
02:13 Funny enough, when he came off stage the other day, I was like, "Good tuck jump."
02:17 So yeah, really good.
02:18 It's really nice.
02:19 I try not to bring the highlight onto myself.
02:24 I'm just really proud of him and really fortunate to have him in my life.
